  1. As a spouse of a malaysian national, is it ok to fly to Malaysia on a one-way ticket, instead of a return ticket? I don't have any long/short term visit pass or visa, just will be flying in on visa-exempt. Thanks

The proof of 800k baht being transferred from abroad will not be required if has been in the bank for a long time (2 months or more).

Showing that the 800k is transferred abroad shouldn't be a problem. But if arrive on 30 day exempt+ renew 30days , total 60days. Even if, as soon as you arrive you open a bank account, then transfer funds in, this process will take at least 1 week. So funds can only be in there for like 1 month 3weeks, before your 60days is up. Or is there no time criteria for bank balanes, when applying for the non-imm 'O' retirement first time (90 days).

  3. I see. So do you mean for the first 90days renewal, you only need to show the 800k in the bank (which came from overseas), and that it doesn't have to have been in there for 2 months already. Because obviously wouldn't have been in Thailand long enough to open the account and season it with full 2 months.

But for the 1 year extension, then yes can show the 800k has been in the bank for 2months already.

From what I've read, depending on the bank and branch you visit, its easier at some than others to open an account (even if you don't have any type of visa). All you needs is residence certificate (which you'll have to get from immigration first). I've read that Bangkok Bank is the easiest to open with, or Kasikorn.

As a UK citizen I used the passport on mine after seeing it recommended here on Thaivisa as was and it was accepted OK, albeit a couple of years ago now.  It is not referring to a residential address but the fact that you are legally permitted to reside in the UK, which a valid passport does.

I don't know what a Malaysian passport holder would supply.  They must surely have some documentation permitting them to stay?

Yeah, the Malaysian passport holder has a council tax bill (in her married name) and an old malaysian passport which has a 'permitted to stay in the UK' stamp, but that passport is in her maiden name ???? I might send an email to the embassy and ask what is best in this scenario. They have suprisingly been quite good at responding recently, and only took 2-3 working days to answer my enquiries via email.

  5. Oh right thanks...silly me. I must have just glanced over it and not realised that it would give an example. I was looking in the manual they provide and searched online but couldn't find anything. Actually I was even thinking of using something like this website https://www.ivisa.com/photo-blog/thailand-passport-visa-photo-requirements-and-size which will do it for your apparently. Not sure if thats necessary now?

You first step will be to apply for a non-o visa at immigration that will allow a 90 day permit stay on day it issued. The 800k baht has be in the bank on the day apply.

    Requirements are here. https://bangkok.immigration.go.th/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/8-1.pdf

If you leave the country during the 90 days you will need to get a single re-entry permit (1000 baht) to keep the remainder of the 90 days valid when use it to enter the country.

There is not requirement to be in the country for 60 days when you apply for the extension.

The 800k baht will have to be in the bank for 2 months of the day you apply for the on year extension. You will need a letter from the bank confirming your account and updated bank book to prove the 800k baht has been in the bank for the months.

No need to prove it came from abroad for the extension but it will be needed for the non-o visa application. Some office will accept the letter done the day before but want the bank book updated on the day your apply.

A medical certificate is not required to apply for the visa or extension of stay unless applying at a rogue immigration office that wants it.

Thanks UbonJoe ! In the case of my spouse (she has Malaysian passport, I have British passport), would she also need to show 800k in her name? So basically 2 sets of everything? I'm not sure where we'll be staying yet, it could be at my son-in-law's house in Chiang Mai (he is Thai), in which case not sure what we could show for rental agreement ??

  7. Is it possible to fly in on a 30 day exempt, then convert to a non-O for retirement once in Thailand? Plan to put the 800k into a Thai bank account straight after arriving, spend a month in Thailand, go to Malaysia for a month, then come back to Thailand to apply for the retirement visa. By this time the money has been seasoned 2 months already. Is this plan feasible? As I have read you need to be in the country for 60days prior to application. So I wil l prepare:

    - Updated bank book, and letter from the bank saying >800k has been deposited from overseas more than 2 months ago

    - Medical Certificate

Any other docs I need to show? I had also read, you need to get the docs from the bank on the morning you apply , is this really true? As you need to be at immigration very early in the morning to do these things, so not sure how that would work? Thanks

I did my son's renewal last year.  In addition to the application form, I just needed colour copies of every page of his expiring UK passport and new counter-signed photos.  I also had confirmation of our address in Thailand. I didn't need any documents relating to my wife.

For the address in Thailand, I'm a little confused over whether it should show the child's name or the parent's? As it's hard to find an official  document with my daughter's name and address on. Her passport has already expired, I wonder if that will be a problem ?
