1. Best of luck to the OP in finding the guy. I would tend to think that the sort of neglect that some foreign prisoners receive would not make them good candidates for re-introduction to society. It's a good idea to do what we can for them in the way of helping them deal in a more positive way since they will eventually be out there with us again.

I second that Scott. I can't believe how quickly the OP's thread got inundated by people giving their "opinions" - nothing to do with the OP's post and request for information....

Prisons in Thailand are NOT a nice place to be and people should not always be so quick to judge, based on what is sometimes "half a story" reported in The Nation or the Bangkok Post (or ThaiVisa!)... :D Usually, there is more to the story than meets the eye. Of course I am not saying everybody is innocent, but one should learn and know the whole story before being so quick to judge, IMHO.

There are a number of ways in which things can go "wrong" in the Police, Justice & Court system of Thailand...Things can quickly spiral out of control and lengthy prison sentences can be incurred and after the sentencing, the appeal process can take a long time to come to court.

For example:- see the recent acquittal of British man, Jody Aggett http://www.usp.com.au/fpss/news-thailand/news-agget103.html

Another post re: recent release of British man, Alan John Davies http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england...ire/6662065.stm

Back on topic!! Kankaroo - I am glad you were successful in finding the information you required.

As a point of interest, if anybody is in this situation again & is trying to locate somebody and the alleged offence occured in Bangkok and the case has already been heard in Court, then it is worth contacting Klong Prem Central Prison. (Another poster above - dutchrdam - gave the contact details). Ask to speak to/ see Khun Patcharin (lady), - you need to provide the name, nationality, alleged crime etc. She should be able to assist or at least point you in the right direction to locate the prisoner.

Often, if people are not being held at the Immigration Detention Centre (IDC) on Suan Phlu, people are held in Bangkok Remand Prison during the initial remand period, both prior to sentencing and often after when sentences are given for up to three years. Sentences of three years or more usually involve a subsequent transfer to Klong Prem Central Prison. (BKK Remand Prison is located on the same Nonthaburi prison complex as Klong Prem Central Prison).

Hope the above is useful if anybody (unfortunately) finds themselves in a situation like the OP.

    :o

    Hi Andiamo

Great post to help all but just a few things need correcting:

    1. Dutchrdam correctly gave the address of the head office of The Department of Corrections, close to Bangkwang Central Prison in Nonthaburi.

    2. The ever helpful Khun Patcharin is at Klongprem Central Prison, Foreign Affairs Section. Address Ngam Wongwan Road, Lard Yao, Jatujak, Bangkok 10900.

    3. Bangkok Remand Prison is located on the Klongprem Prison complex as are also, the Klongprem Prison Hospital, Womens Correctional Insititution and Bumbud Prison for drug offenders.

Helps to have correct addresses in these areas as English Language is not widely spoken by taxi drivers and others of whom you may have to make enquiry in the future.

Good luck to anyone caught in the Justice System.

  2. Hi all,

Glad to have found this site and forum! Not easy to find some dedicated to Hua Hin.

I am a 26 year old male from Holland with a in my eyes super job, because I can work using an Internet connection.

Next 3 September I am flying to Thailand to base there primarily. As I have to go to for 2 days, 1 night first I will arrive in Hua Hin about 8 September (Leaving in the beginning of November for a 2 week trip to Holland to come back after that).

My planning is to first get a hotel in Hua Hin for about 2 weeks. I already got a good one a good friend of mine directed me too.

After settling in I want to cut out a deal with an Internet cafe so I can do most of my daily work.

In the first two weeks I plan to look and find a good not to expensive 2 bedroom rental home with a land line. The way I was informed it would be no big problem to get a land line and DSL connection if there was already a phone line pointing to the house. But anyone that can tell me different or give any tips please do!

Basically I would just be working my own hours on my laptop over there. So I hope I can buy a wireless router over there. It would give me a lot more flexibility.

Now that you all know my plans I hope to get a couple of new friends trough this forum that maybe can give me some tips or point me in some right directions. It would be highly appreciated! So please IM me if you feel like it.

To not bore you all to much and end this up.. Nice meeting you all and hope to speak to you all soon!

    Manou

May I ask what kind of Visa you plan to stay in Thailand with?

  3. :o I lived at Anatisila in a penthouse on the roof for 22000 baht per month, dont think it would have been pleasant in the rainy season as most of the accommodation was exposed to the weather, the bedroom however was enclosed like a hotel room....the views were spectacular, a dose of morning prozac could never come close to this however due to lack of adequate medical facilities relocated to Bangkok, but the memories linger happily..They do have their own website if you search...a private beach and a wonderful terrace restaurant right on the beach...the staff very pleasant and my landlady, Khun Sakroona, one of the most wonderful thai wimmin I have had the pleasure to meet, previously lived at her sisters place, Baan Napapan, indeed another woman of graceful mien and they have become my family and we remain in touch to this day..accommodation in that area is available but suggest you make the trip and check the possibilites out, there are a variety of places and not all up market, unlike Anatisila which is around 3000 baht per night for a regular room..I can only say that it was the happiest 5 months of living in Khoh Takeab...hope you concur... :D Dukkha
