  1. This is an advertisement for insurance, not an "article". Most people are not being sent to private hospitals, hardly any are. If they have mild symptoms, or are asymptomatic, they are moved to a quarantine hotel, the cost of which are quite reasonable. There are a few horror stories floating around, yes. But overall people are overwhelmingly just confined to a hotel where they are basically free to mingle around inside.

  2. Bikes produced solely for the Asian market are built to a price, especially the small ones. They are normally made for city and village dwellers that never get onto expressways. There are exceptions.

Sporty bikes in the 150 range are built for 50-65kg riders. They have flashy designs which mimic their big brothers, horrid brakes, awful suspension, and anemic power aimed at extracting every satang out of the tank. DELETED

I have ridden/purchased more than a dozen bikes in the past few decades in SEA, each and every time I cringe at the time of payment, knowing full well that the same bike could be purchased far cheaper back on the states. You won't find better value in TH.

Lots of nice bikes and decent values in the 250/300-500/650 range produced in TH available in TH. But, even Japanese brand bikes made in TH and shipped to the USA sell for 20-30% more in TH. And it's not because of tax, anymore. We have tax in the USA as well.

  3. I can't imagine what could possibly go wrong. Thais' are universally sweet, warm, selfless, caring people. Also, they have the benefit of having their benevolent ruler, "in their hearts". We will never be able to understand their ways, since we ourselves are not Thai.

  4. If you have a half decent helmet or you really like the cheap and dangerous one so many wear here, try www.ThaiAntinoc.co.th -- they re-line helmets at a very reasonable cost. They are situated in Bangkok and offer a return by post service. As an example, they replaced the linings in our two Roof helmets and they only took two days to do it -- one of the days being a sunday.

They are also stockists ( if not the manufacturers ) of Stars Helmets who have a range of more than 50 types of helmet.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but what about the best way to clean your visor? Please don't say a mixture of water and vinegar.

Remove the visor and wash it by hand using dish washing soap. Shake it off and let it drip dry. No paper towels.

  5. A helmet with a removable liner is compulsory in the SEA climate. To clean your removable liner I recommend throwing it in the washer with a bit of vinegar and baking soda, as well as detergent. Hand washing just won't cut it. In between washing a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water sprayed into your helmet will help to quell odors. Just be sure and let the vinegar dry completely before you wear it. All the vinegar smell will dissipate once dry.

  6. Cut communication, go back to your country, use that degree. Treat it as a lesson. This is no country to find love in. Not many happy relationships to be found here in the short time that I've been here.

Oh, and stop making payments on your "girlfriend". See how long she stays around then. Go home man.

  7. Funny how no one seems to have picked up on the "lady market" comment. She wasn't talking about a place where ladies shop, more likely a place where they're sold.

I would wager that if you asked westerners, that have never even been to Asia, to name the top 5 things that come to mind regarding Thailand that prostitution and counterfeit goods would be in there more often than not.

I guess we are supposed to ignore those things that are shoved down our throats, and prostrate ourselves before the miracle that is Thailand. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

I do believe that the mention of 'lady market' is a reference to a market in Hong Kong that sells items that are preferred by ............er, ladies.

She was in HK earlier this month, so maybe that is a clue!!

Ah, no. If you'll go back and read the original tweet, which this whole thread is based on, you will see that she was most definitely referring to BKK. And as for the hockey about "items preferred by......er, ladies", not sure about your command of English but I believe that by saying "lady market" she was refering to a place where ladies are sold. Like a fish market. Don't be thick. But thanks for proving my original point.

  9. He seems very well spoken to me. His arguments and points do have merit. Not all of the leaders are in their homes, more than one is still at/nearby the protest site.

Unfortunately, for the reds, the propaganda machine designed to meld the minds of the locals works especially well on most foreigners living here.
