  1. He seems very well spoken to me. His arguments and points do have merit. Not all of the leaders are in their homes, more than one is still at/nearby the protest site.

Unfortunately, for the reds, the propaganda machine designed to meld the minds of the locals works especially well on most foreigners living here.

  2. Not sure what they are doing for US citizens, now. Up until a year ago they would only give you a tourist visa for Thailand one time, then stamp your passport so that you could not get another in the future, unless you were Khmer. For the past year of so they have been issuing tourist visas, 60 day multiple-entry, for most nationalities without the dreaded stamp. I do believe that the visa is once again free! Stay anywhere in central PP that you'd like. All drivers should know the Thai Embassy, it's on the southern end of Norodom Blvd. The Khmers that work behind the glass at the Thai Embassy are complete dicks. Never have I found a less obliging group of people. If you ask how long it will take they will tell you 4 days! If you have proof that you are flying out they can give you the visa on the spot; they only hold passports for the chance to get a bribe, welcome to Scambodia! I would take my passport to any travel agent, if I were you. Although they may charge you a small fee, $10-$15, it will be WELL worth the headache you will save yourself. Funnily enough, I will be taking my passport to my travel agent on Monday to get just the visa you are looking for. I will then be able to report what the process looks like presently.

  3. seriously guys - don't share the really good ones, thats how places end up becoming expensive, drop in personal service and quality and turn to shit.

you end up going to your favourite nice restaurant and prices have gone up and you can't even get a seat because its full of dickheads who have read somehwre its got good food and prices and now when you finally manage to get a seat you lose your appetite because all you can hear is converstations about saving the planet and feel like throwing your food at them.

So should we not talk about these places so we can keep their prices low? Great for you, bad for the Cambodian economy. And what about these "dickheads" that are talking about "saving the world", I assume this is bad conversation? So by that rationale, conversation about destroying the world would be good conversation! I get it.

  4. I haven't been in BKK for the last 6 months, but, from my 14 prior years of being in and out of the country I can tell you that the taxi situation is dire. More often than not, I have to tell the taxi which way to travel. Also, no matter if the fare is a fat one or not, if the driver has EVER had a traffic jam in the local that I am going, they will not take me, regardless if the area would be jammed at the specific time I may be going or not. I have zero pity for them. If they are too ignorant, and there is nothing wrong with being ignorant, then they shouldn't be driving; if they are stupid/rude, then that is another matter entirely. Many times I must ask at least a half-dozen cabs before one will take me to "my destination", and mind you, I NEVER take a cab if there will be a traffic jam, NEVER. Never will I fail to report a cab (to the taxi authority) that refuses my fare, either, and neither should you; they are obligated to take you anywhere you wish to go , anytime.

  5. What did you have to grease the Cambodian officials for? :o

It was paid because if they ask you how long you are staying and you say right away they ask you to pay 200-300 baht, you do not have to pay this, simply tell them you may stay 30 days and that its up to you. You also don't have to pay them 1000 baht for your visa. The sign says "20 US dollars", so that is what I pay them, yes they complain and say that I have to get baht next door, I simply refuse and ask them to read the sign. I have been through many times, more than a dozen in the last two years, and they always let me through. So when I go for a visa run the cost break down to

0 baht- trip to Rama 4 ( I walk as I livenear by)

200 baht- bus trip, there and back

    700 baht- visa ($20 X 35baht)

    900 baht total!!!

Give it a try, works everytime!

  6. A friend just arrived from Canada with 2 x 60 days visa

So what happens - Can he use one 60 days and then get another 30 days extension

    X 2 = 180 days

    ?????

i thought it was 90 days in and 90 days out with no more than 180 days in within a 12 month period

ie only 6 months in out of 12 months

    This was issued in Canada

This is an excellent example (one of many) why this new visa system simply will not stick, if you can't get farang to understand it (after 43 pages of explanation) then how do you expect a thai with a sub 90 IQ to understand it!

Truly though, unless a formal system (for the airlines to reconcile passenger manifest) is implemented, then this thing will NEVER be truly enforced. Unless they simply enforce it at border crosssings. The bones tell me this will go by the wayside.

  7. I don't recall reading any recent reports but the Thai embassy in Singapore is traditionally not known for being very receptive to tourist visa applicants who have just arrived from Thailand. If your passport is "clean", you shouldn't have a problem.

Thanks Ovenman. Passport "clean", no problem. I just wanted to be sure as I couldn't find any post regarding Sing. Has anyone got one there lately?

  8. bump

Perhaps nobody quite knows what you want to know.

To apply, in Singapore, for a visa to travel to Thailand, go to the Thai consulate, which probably is in the same building as the Thai embassy, fill out the application form and hand it in, together with the application fee and the number of passport photographs they require.

That’s all there is to it.

Is this what you wanted to know?

    ---------------

    Maestro

Maestro, As you are well know there are some places (Manila for instance) where a Tourist Visa to visit Thailand is VERY difficult to obtain. I am just wanting to be sure that Singapore isn't one of these places. Sorry if I offended you.

And I think that EVERYONE knew what I was looking for.

  9. I have decided to take the train to Nong Khai myself. I noticed on the link provided in my previous topic that there were several classes of service. Can anyone give me a rundown on what you get in these different classes? I noticed the prices for first class service was quite a bit higher, is this a private car? Do you pay one price for the private car, if it is private, or is this price per person if two people shared the car? Thanks in advance for your replies.
