Actually that's a Eastern Yellow Wagtail.

I don't know why they give them different names, just call it a Wagtail.

Yes, I couldn't decide whether it was a grey wagtail or a yellow wagtail.

It didn't seem yellow enough to be the latter. I don't know why I called it "pied"!

  2. I already got the insurance from AXA. (deleted: repeating my first post)

She said I could go to Satun "border town" with an agent next year and he could get it done, obviously for a price.

Maybe I have to go with him to the Thai consulate in Penang and he expedites it.

It all depends on the cost/benefit ratio.

The alternative is to keep 3 million in the bank to be exempt from the insurance.

  3. Phuket immigration said this can be done at Satun, using an agent.

If it saves getting the health certificate (34,500 baht) and all the form filling hassle, I may do it next year. This year's extension was a horrendous pain given that for the last 4 years no health insurance has been necessary.

Finding out that the rules had changed so that I needed it, and getting it all done in two weeks, with three public holidays and two other national holidays during that time was stressful.

Fortunately the IOs at Phuket have been very helpful and got the insurance done in 2 hours, compared to the AXA rep. who needed 7 to 14 days. I don't blame the rep., but the IO had a direct line to the "boss".

So, has anyone done the change from OA to O?

  4. I bought an Epson L210 many years ago. (10,15?). Wouldn't start two weeks ago - indicators showed "ink waste pads" full. Tried washing them. No Joy. Bought new ones. No good. Took to BigC. 300 baht. Works perfectly.

    Easy answer,

The Thai home room teachers visit your home once a year, while there they assess your income and make notes. If they've written in the notes, nice house, new (ish) car, big TV ......... no student loan.

    It's that simple!

I also knew a NGO guy that handed out scholarships,

He'd walk around their homes looking for where they had hidden their car, sheds, tire tracks, all examined. If they appeared to own a car, no scholarship.

    Wow! That bad?

  6. Can someone explain how the student loan system works?

My landlord says that if the Thai family earns above a certain amount, they won't qualify for the loan. He stated quite clearly that the loan is meant for poor Thai people, not the rich.

I've looked at a few posts on the subject here (e.g.

which contains a link the a Thai website (https://www.studentloan.or.th/th/home

but I haven't found out about the financial qualification limit, if there is one.

Has anyone any information or experience of this loan system?

    Thanks in advance.

I also don't have a "bar" to scroll.  Just a bunch of buttons to click.

Can't you drag those buttons to the left?

I can on my phone, but can't remember what the PC version looks like
