  1. A quick question on when I need to do a 90 report. I'm in the process of obtaining a non O based on retirement. I entered the country on a 60 day tourist visa which I subsequently extended by 30 days. Due to a misunderstanding on my part I didn't apply for the non O on time but no problem, immigration have extended my tourist visa by another 60 days based on covid. I've now applied for the non O based on retirement (it's currently under consideration, I have to return to immigration on June 17th). My question is, when do I need to do a 90 day report? I tried to do one online just before the original 90 days tourist visa ended but it was rejected due to 'type of visa no need to report'. I'm currently a week into the 60 day covid extension on my tourist visa. This is at Chiang Mai immigration.
  2. I did a few transfers from my UK bank. It shows on my Bangkok Bank statement as 'foreign T/T' so hopefully that's ok. Thanks
  3. Thanks for clearing that up - My mistake was thinking that when I applied for the non O based on retirement the 800k already had to be in for 2 months so when I went last week I didn't have the 15 days remaining on my current permission of stay.
  4. Does anybody have recent experience of obtaining a tourist visa from Vientienne (or from the Thai embassy in another neighbouring country)? The reason I'm asking is I'm in Chiang Mai on a tourist visa - I've used the initial 60 days and I'm currently on a 30 day extension. I'm in the process of applying for a retirement visa. I've opened a Thai bank account and transferred 800k into it but the money won't have been in the account for 60 days before my tourist visa expires. I went to immigration last week and they suggested I apply for a 60 day extension based on covid. I did this but they didn't give me the extension straight away but stamped my passport saying it's under review and I'm to return to immigration next Monday. Maybe I'm worrying too much but I'm concerned that if they reject the covid extension I will only have 4 days left on my tourist visa so I was thinking my best option would be to go to a neighbouring country and hopefully get a new tourist visa which will give me time to convert to a retirement one.
  5. Many thanks for the replies folks. Much appreciated
  6. Hi I need metformin, gliclazide, sitagliptin and losartin. They're prescription meds in the UK but when I spent a period in CM about 13 years ago I could get them over the counter. I wasn't sure whether I'd be best going to a particular pharmacy, a doctor or a hospital
  7. Hi, I'm new to CM. I take tablets for diabetes and high blood pressure. My stocks are getting low so can anyone recommend a place to purchase new supplies?
  8. Once I'd obtained a certificate of residence from immigration I opened an account at the Bangkok Bank branch on Thapae Rd (it's more convenient for me to go there than KSK). No problem with me holding a tourist visa once I explained I would be applying for a retirement visa. The woman who dealt with me was aware of the process and the fact I'd be moving 800,000 bht into the account. The Bangkok Bank branch in Airport Plaza had previously said I'd have no problem opening an account at that branch on a tourist visa once I had my certificate of residence.
  9. Thanks Eric, good to know about the 500b to speed things up. If I can get an account opened and the money deposited by next weekend I'll be ok. I was using the Bangkok Bank branch in Airport Plaza, they were very helpful but insisted on the certificate of residence.
  10. Hi, I arrived in Thailand on 27th Feb on a 60 day tourist visa. My intention is to get a 30 day extension and then swap to an o-a retirement visa in Chiang Mai (I'm 63 years old). I've had problems opening a Thai bank account. I've only just found a condo to live in and the banks I've tried are asking for a certificate of residence. I'm planning on going to immigration tomorrow morning to apply for this but I've read it may take several weeks. If this is the case then by the time I manage to open a bank account and move in the 800k required for the retirement visa the money won't be in the account for the required 2 months before I apply for the retirement visa. Any ideas as to what I can do? Would an option be to go to a neighbouring country and get a new tourist visa then apply for the retirement visa by which time the money will have been in the bank for long enough?
