Good Morning All... I am looking for a MD that is licensed in western medicine that also speaks, reads/writes English. I have a venous ulceration that I need monitored. I am in the medical field and have been instructed/educated by my physician in the US on how to treat this condition myself and have dealt with it a couple times over the last 13 years. Currently I find myself in the position of having to have it diagnosed, a treatment protocol and the progress monitored by a western MD for employment needs. I would prefer someone in a private practice to avoid the long waits etc from the hospitals. I live in Nawa about 30 minutes from Sakon Nakhon. Thanks in Advance Larry

nice... i was perfectly happy being by myself for years... i was divorced for 43 years before i met her and lived in thailand for 3 years before we met... i had numerous friends try and set me up, to meet women that they told me wondered why i didn't have a girlfriend or a wife and the answer was always the same... "I don't want one"... I never believed in love at first sight until it happened... I met my wife where we live in the small farming community of Nawa... she was making/selling som tum which I'm addicted to... In the 3 years we have been together there has never been a raised voice or a cross word between us... she very rarely if ever asks me for a thing... her life is better and so is mine... she filled a whole in my soul an my heart I didn't even realize was there... she has thanked more than once saying "thank you for being with me, I always thought I'd be alone for the rest of my life" and between the two of us I am getting the better end of this deal... my favorite photo of me and pla...- 63 replies

Jim you are totally off the mark... I am well aware of how fast one can be healthy and things turn around, I am a physician and see it all the time... I have no fear and do not care about about getting old or dying... I'm in good health and I'm not worried about care either I know my wife will do what she can... To be honest I believe that I am going to live longer that I would actually prefer... with my grandkids in their 20's and with my wife I've added a few extra years of that preference... lol And this is even further off the mark... "Are you trying to lock up the funds somehow so you don't spend savings down? That does not work, you end up having to sell off assets." Like I said I am not wealthy but I am not poor either... "Whatever is left gets passed on anyway so why does it need to be a house?"... again as I said I would prefer just to stay on the land and in the house and then pass both to her family once I die... And also like I stated I have seen friends lose everything... I guess you are the "glass is half empty" guy where I the "glass is half full guy" here... Appreciate your thoughts, you are just off the mark when it comes to me and my thoughts... -

Okay I know this is a touchy subject and something nobody wants to think about... Myself and a couple of my expats were wondering about this... Worse case scenario and something we all hope never happens... I am 70 years old and my wife is 39 so I am pretty sure and hope and pray that I am going to die before my wife but you never know... A year ago my son died from a heart attack at 47 and he was in relatively good shape... Our son, my wife's thru her first marriage was hit by a drunk driver when he was on his scooter and broke his leg and thankfully that was the extent of it... so again you never know We (I) bought land last year and we are going to build a house so when I die she has her own place... She never asked me to do, my wife is very low maintenance, this is something that I wanted to do for her. I am not a wealthy man, do not have a lot of money in the bank and still working in order to make money to build the house which if I wasn't married that money would be for my retirement... So here is my question... worse case scenario if my wife dies for some reason what happens to the land, does it just go to her family... I know that as a farang I can't own land but is there a legal document that could have the land go to me or that it could be sold... I get along great with my in-laws and believe that they would let me live there until I die which is what I prefer but I would feel better if a legal document was drawn up stating this... maybe it would be in poor taste, I don't know and hope it would not be a slap in the face to my in-laws... I've seen a number of my friends lose everything to their ex-Thai wife or their family... I do not believe that my wife, or I would not have married her, or her family are like this but again you never know... They certainly know that I do not have a lot of money but my wife has a very good life with me and I do take care of her... we just live within our means... but on the other hand like I have stated I've seen things like this happen... Your thoughts I am ready for some of you that might just blast me as a greedy bastard while others might understand where I am coming from...

Border Run Nakhon Phanom 2024
AcuDoc replied to AcuDoc's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Thanks for reply... I was just in Nakhon Phanom getting my 60 day extension. We have dealt with the same person in the office for a couple years and she volunteered if I need to stay longer just go to the Freedom Bridge crossing... I only need an additional month cuz I go back to work for 7 months out of the country so it makes it easy -
Does anyone know if a "border run" at the Freedom Bridge is possible in Nakhon Phanom... Pre-Covid I would take the bus across the bridge, get a Laos visa and turn around and head back to Thailand to get a new 30 day Thai visa... It took maybe 30 minutes to do... Is this still possible now that covid restrictions are over... TIA
-
Hi Everyone Before covid I would make a border run to Laos from Nakon Phnom over the Freedom Bridge and it only took maybe an hour... Is it still possible to do border runs... I heard the government has done a crackdown on this... Thanks in advance

I just got back from doing a one week border run to Vietnam. When I got back to the airport in Bangkok no problem with getting a 30 day visa that expires on May 29th. Next I was in Bangkok for 3 days... My wife told me today that she thinks I have to go to "check in" at the Immigration Office in Nakon Phanom. I don't remember having to do this before but my memory is not as good as it used to be lol. I do remember having to go to the government office here in Nawa where I live and check in... My question... Do I have to go to the Immigration Office in Nakon Phanom. The Immigration officer that stamped my passport said nothing about it... Thanks in advance Larry

What Is Your Favorite Bank...
AcuDoc replied to AcuDoc's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Thanks every one for your advice... I decided on Bangkok Bank because it has a great rep, lots of branches including outside of Thailand and my job takes me around the world, I've been to 91 countries so far. And there is a branch not far from me in Sakon Nakon where a friend banks. I went there this morning and it took all of 30 minutes and not one hassle or problem.... they were great and set up my account, debt card and online banking for me... In the mean time this afternoon I got a call from SCB. After all the hoops they made me jump through after four separate tries each time saying I needed something else and saying every time all you need is this and come back... first with my marriage certificate, then Thai ID and Yellow Book then Immigration and then Proof of Income then saying we have to make a phone call and see if it is okay... it still wasn't enough... Today they said you cannot open and account unless you have a Retirement Visa and live here full time... All I have to say to SCB is KMA... -
I have had the same problem and have been told by my doctor and by doctors I work with and that are patients, I'm an Acupuncture Physician, that the cremes etc do not work and the only thing that works well is Terbinafine (oral). I have found this to be true in my case after I've tried other suggestions. It's a good idea to have your liver checked which my doctor insisted on before he would give me the prescription as if there is a problem with your liver you should not take this medication. When you are in medicine you are always researching things... This is one of the sources I always check... The Cleveland Clinic along with Mayo Clinic and Harvard... https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/drugs/19379-terbinafine-tablets hope this helps larry

What Is Your Favorite Bank...
AcuDoc posted a topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I have been trying to open an account with SCB in Nawa for some time because that is where my wife banks. I have run into nothing but headaches. First it's understandable I guess is that I need to be married to a Thai. So once I got married this year I tried taking our marriage certificate, my yellow book and my Thai ID.... nope... Then they said I have to wait and go to immigration first when I have me visa extended which made now sense to me. So that happened and then they wanted proof of income. I waited until I got my 2022 W2 from my employer, I'm American, and my 2022 Social Security Yearly Statement showing that income which I took to them today. Now they said they need to call "someone" to see if it is "okay for me to open an account.... they will call and let us know the decision. I do not understand all of this... is this par for the course... I have had friends tell me they have not had to go through all of this... I have never had to jump thru so many hoops almost begging for a bank to use my money for THEIR investments. Again the only reason I am doing this is because it is my wife's bank and it would be easier for me to transfer funds if an emergency arises... So should I just say forget it and go to another bank in Nawa, there are three and not give the the satisfaction of having and account with them... I've also heard if you open an account at a bank in Bangkok it is relatively easy. What are your experiences and what is your favorite bank... Another thing I could use advice on is at some point I am going to have my social security deposited directly into my Thai bank account. I understand that Bangkok Bank is the best for this because they have a branch in New York and it is an easy way to go... Plus I'm thinking that maybe because the branch is in the US you get protections that the US provides banks... just a guess on my part... Your thought... thanks in advance Larry -
I just did this last week in Nakon Phanom... We should up with all the regular visa extension paperwork thinking I would get a 45 day extension. They asked if I wanted a 60 day because I was married, we also had all documentation showing we were married, marriage license/certificate etc. We lacked the "Marriage Certificate Form" which was something different from what we got at the govt office showing we were married etc. They sent us to a service that provided it located inside of a Big C.... not sure what the office was called. My wife did it all while I waled around the store. It went very quickly and the cost was 10 baht. With the additional paperwork in hand we went back to the immigration office and it was all said and done in a matter of minutes... hopes that helps

I just had my "fish pond" dug and looking for plants to stop soil erosion. The sides are fairly steep and most of it is clay soil. Looking for low maintenance plants for ground cover or shrubs are fine that can take a lot of sun... It will be from the top tier, where I am standing to the first level down which will be just above the water level...thanks in advance
