Wasn't that changed years ago, and now it is possible to file a TM-30 by post or online?
-
The title is what it is. Arrived in Bangkok on a visa waiver, submitted a TM-30 via the sec. 38 app. At CW, applied for a non-O visa for retirement, and now an annual extension and re-entry permit. Also got auto and motorcycle licenses with my Bangkok address using the embassy "single affidavit" in lieu of residence certificate at Mochit DLT. Planning to move to Korat soon, and already have the Korat residence registered on the sec. 38 app. Once we move, we'll submit a new TM-30 for the new residence. I think I'm done, but am I? No need to inform CW that I'm moving. The new TM-30 handles that. I go to Korat immigration for my next 90-day report in person on the date shown on the receipt given me by CW. I have a new fixed account from a Korat bank branch specifically for immigration fully funded prior to receiving the annual extension, balance forward updated every 60 days or so if I need to show funds have remained in the bank. (not the same account as used at CW to apply for visa and extension) No need to inform Korat that I've arrived. The new TM-30 handles that, as well. First contact with Korat will be the first 90-day report. As to vehicle licenses, I can wait until renewal time to change the address. What have I forgotten?

I think you mean OPODO Here's the contact/help page. https://www.opodo.com/customer-service/#/ Bottom right, click the chat where it says "How can we help". Type "talk to agent" May have to do that a few times, answer a few questions. Should get to a live human shortly.

It's not as much the looking too small, but the cramped feeling that my knees are up around my earlobes.
-
Former bike was a Concours which also felt too small. Added peg lowers, bar risers and taller tires. CB250 looks interesting, new model is twister? I'll get out of the apartment and do some in-person research once i get over the covids.

I'm looking for a suitable small motorcycle for me and the new missus. This will be solely for use around a mid-sized town in Issan with good roads and light traffic. No Bangkok traffic, no highway use, no long trips, although I'll probably occasionally ride solo to Korat. I've looked at some of the popular scooters, but I don't seem to fit. 1.90m, 34L inseam, size 47 shoes. They all feel like circus clown tricycles. Any recommendations for a sub-400cc bike for a taller guy? Prefer a cruiser style, not a crotch-rocket. I'm looking for something like a Honda Phantom 200, Kawa W250, Keeway K-Light 200, Zongshen Ryuka RK125, Lifan 250. Any comments about these concerning quality or sizing? Currently, leaning towards a Centaur CT-170i.....

CW and the Covids
NoDisplayName replied to NoDisplayName's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I don't think so. I went directly to the booking page and made two new appointments, and was planning to cancel tomorrow's bookings next. I didn't realize there was a "reschedule" button (but no 'cancel' button) on the original confirmation, only looking at the reminder email received today. It seems I still have two sets of appointments. There doesn't seem to be a way to get into the system and cancel open bookings. -
I have appointments tomorrow at CW for retirement extension and re-entry, but just now tested positive for the covids. What are the requirements for entry to CW after having the covids? Do i need a hospital PCR test or just my home ATK showing negative? Is there a minimum waiting time afterwards? I've made new bookings for ten days in the future, but am unable to cancel tomorrow's appointments. Is there a secret button somewhere I missed?

The booking is checked at the airline check-in counter, not at immigration. The airline is just covering their behinds, as they would be responsible for returning you to point of origin if denied entry. You have a valid booking for a flight thirty days in the future, as required by the destination country. If denied entry, you have a valid onward booking you can pay for and use. Airline is off the hook.

Well, sure. Everyone's personal experiences are personal. Your experiences are yours, and do not match my personal anecdotes. I failed to add that in one case about four years ago, Pentor refused to take a heavily worn, creased $100 note with a few random pen marks and a "security stamp" from some forex window long ago . They advised me to take the bill further into the mall to exchange at SCB. The nice folks at that particular branch on that particular day accepted the bill without question. I doubt immigration would deny entry due to "dirty money."
-
Are you confusing Thailand with Myanmar? Banks in Yangon demand pristine notes, but in my experience not Thailand. A couple of weeks ago Pentor at the mall wouldn't accept my US$100's. They only wanted "big heads." Super Rich one floor below took them without any questions, even the 25-year-old worn notes.

https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/local-resources-of-u-s-citizens/notaries-public/affidavit/ Fill out the affidavit with whatever you desire. The notary will not confirm it, nor ask for supporting documentation. The notary is certifying only that you are the individual that made the statement and signed the form. You will need to book an appointment for notarial services. https://evisaforms.state.gov/Instructions/ACSSchedulingSystem.asp

Crouching Single-Paper, Hidden Uses
NoDisplayName replied to NoDisplayName's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I don't know her job or title. My girlf.....oops!.....my wife handled that. The nice lady at the amphur is responsible for registering marriages and divorces. The deed she did was to take the legalized documents we gave her, and provide us with a marriage certificate, returning the original legalized documents to us. But that's not important. This thread is about non-standard uses for the notarized and legalized "certificate of singleness" marriage affidavit obtained from an embassy. -
Written Exam Questions - Study Guide?
NoDisplayName replied to NoDisplayName's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
If anyone is interested, here are my findings. I used two of the sites recommended here to study. The first one gives a good overview of the laws, although the English is questionable, and some of the answers are incorrect. Scroll to the bottom to read comments. https://move2thailand.com/driving-license-exam-in-thailand-2020/ This second one offers 50-question practice exams. The questions are close to what I found on the actual test, although a few were translated differently. https://thaidriveexam.com/ Test day was too easy. Three hours of boring videos, lunch break, then half an hour to review the DLT signs and questions handbook followed by computerized testing. I did both tests in about fifteen minutes each, plus another five minutes to review my answers. Scored 50 and 50. -
Crouching Single-Paper, Hidden Uses
NoDisplayName replied to NoDisplayName's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
@tonray Sorry for the confusement. I'll try to explain. Lots of people report having trouble opening bank accounts, even with valid long term visas. Some banks/offices will only open an account if you have a work permit, others require a letter from your embassy confirming your identity. DLT requires either a residence permit from immigration or a residence affidavit from your embassy to apply for a license or renewal. Embassy letters cost $50 (US embassy) after waiting weeks for an appointment. Immigration (Chang Wattana) won't accept an application for a residence certificate until you've done your first 90-day report (the first non-O annual extension counts as a 90-day report at CW), and then you still have several weeks wait for the certificate to arrive in the mail. I found it possible (YMMV) to open bank accounts at Bangkok Bank Silom, and to apply for a drivers license at Mochit using my leftover, unneeded, single affidavit from the US embassy. No extra fees, no weeks-long wait for appointments, and no waiting for certificates to arrive in the mail. I don't recall anyone mentioning this as a possibility, so thought I'd pass along some useful information. -
Just a note letting members know I found new uses for the US Embassy notarized marriage affidavit. Seemed like such a waste - $50 for an embassy notary stamp when my county clerk back home will notarize for $5, and translation and legalization only came to $20. And then the nice lady at the amphur did the deed for us in under 45 minutes, walk-in, no waiting, no witnesses required and no translator, and gave us two lovely certificates suitable for framing for just 20 baht. Anyway, about those uses. The paper has your name, your passport number and your residence, with an embassy seal. Bangkok Bank Silom accepted the single affidavit, made a copy, returned the original to open multiple bank accounts. The amphur lady scanned the legalized affidavit into the system, and returned the original. DLT at Mochit accepted the single affidavit in lieu of a residence certificate and/or embassy residence affidavit. They retained the orginal (+copy for motorcycle), so drivers licenses were applied for after the hitching. YMMV

I'm going to apply for a license next month and will be required to take the exam. I do not have a valid foreign license. Can anyone provide a link to websites with sample driving test exam questions? I've done a search and looked through some of them, but I'm having trouble understanding the English. I'm not sure if these are bits of Thai driving regulations that have been run through google translate by the websites or they actually appear on the exam. I'm looking for actual question sets that have appeared on prior exams, or perhaps a full study guide with 1000 Q&A's to memorize.

My girlfriend and I will be moving from Bangkok to Isaan soon. We're looking for a reliable mover preferably with a covered/enclosed van to haul the contents of her 28m apartment to the new house. Any recommendations?
