  1. why do TV members always get with the poorest and least educatdd girls?

Out of all the people i know with educated girlfriends, i have never seen a family asking for 100baht...

I believe MiG16's initial response to all this puts to bed once and for all that it's only the poor and uneducated girls who believe all farang are walking ATMs.

  2. actually, the above comment Ive posted is something Id like all farang guys to consider. Ive seen so many threads on TV over the years...how much should I give, should I or should I not.

I think in every case the above sentiment applies. the amount of it will vary depending on how much you earn, how much you want to give

but the principle should be the same I think....

You didn't reply to my post asking how much farang women should give their Thai husband's family. Farang women are white too, and therefore cashcows the same as the men? And if not, why not? I think you MiG16, as a Thai woman, would be best placed to advise :o

  3. i have only had this feeling 3 times in my life. the first time was in highschool and she moved away during the summer, unrealized love, never to be entirely forgotten. the second time was when i met my now wife, who i knew i was in love with and wanted to spend the rest of my life with 5 minutes after meeting her - that was five years ago and we have been together ever since.

obviously i go out into the world and feel lust for other women. that is easy to handle as it is brief and temporary. this is something more powerful. i feel like it is ripping my insides out. every inch of my body is aching and i have barely been able to eat. i cannot get her out of my mind.

what am i supposed to do? the last thing in the world i want is to hurt my wife. on the other hand, i am only a human being and to push away feelings like this, also feels wrong. we are only alive for so long, should we not embrace feelings like this? what kind of life philosophy is repression?

i dont feel comfortable confronting friends with this as its very personal, so please, many of you are older and more experienced than I am, give me advice.

    Yeah. It'll wear off ...

And so a farang woman should give her new Thai husband's family how much?

  5. Just a thought, but it would be very interesting to know if anyone has ever been grabbed warmly by the hand and thanked profusely by the friend to whom the news that his/her partner/wife was being cheated on? From all the posts on this it seems that the 'messenger' has always been shot and the friendship has irretrievably broken down.

  6. Tamsin, I've been to 11 different "stylists" in 6 years here and have been charged anywhere from 250 Baht to 6000 Baht

Raya in Rawai (Khun Ya) only charges 150 Baht for wash, cut and styling and looks as good as any cut I've had in UK or Singapore, and pleasant people working there too.

whereabouts in Rawai please? would save me the dreaded schlep up to Central. Thanks

At the bottom of this page is a map:

    http://phuketindex.com/baansaiyuan/

at the botom of the map you'll see Don's Cafe. Kit's Salon is just across the street.

no, not Kit's, I know where Sai Yuan is, I live there. I was asking about the Raya salon - Rawai's a big place ...

  8. thanks to both for the replies. Kits sounds convenient, but I think I'll give the equally hairdresser-weary McCuch's recommendation a go first and report back for all those who are suffering equally. thanks again

  9. ok I did the West One thing - doesn't do what you want and charges way too much, and I've now fallen out of the Tik and Toe thing - price reasonable - but still doesn't do what you want AT ALL Any new ones on the block? hopefully a bit more er, modern and good cutters natch. Thanks.

  10. FELINE LEUKEMIA is very very prevalent here in Thailand. I had three cats diagnosed, one of which died after a few months. When I asked the vet why he had not told me about this when I had the kittens vaccinated, he told me that it was because the vaccinations were 200 baht each!!! I reminded him that I had paid at least 5000 baht to have the sick cat taken care of in his hospital, notwithstanding the fact that I had to watch the lovely little thing starve to death, and then asked him to put a notice up in his surgery to prominently display the fact of feline leukemia and it;s prevalence here. He hasn't. He told me 'Non one listens'!!!

To EVERYONE who has a kitten here, take it to be vaccinated for feline leukemia. The vets are idiots.

  11. Although I feel for the situation you now find yourself in, I have to ask - why is it that so many people come here, not knowing whether they will be able to take care of a dog(s) for its/their life expectancy, and being aware of the alternatives - being put down, left at a temple/dogs' home/on the street (as in the case of my last dog, who had obviously been abandoned by a brit, he gives the shake hands thing without command)?

I do wish expats would consider the 'dog is not just for Christmas' along with 'dog is not just for duration of your stay in a foreign country'. Sorry to sound harsh, but you're not children after all. :o

    Terrible post .

    JB

I know a farang here who, irresponsibly, in my opinion, breeds pedigree dogs, and he told me that every year at least half of the young dogs are returned as the owners have to relocate or return home. Are you telling me that those people had no idea that they would be moving on? He told me he doesn't have any problems finding homes for pedigrees, but not so lucky for the lovely 'mut' I took in last year who was thrown on to the streets to fend for itself, feeding from rubbish bags and hunting lizzards, and being the target of stone throwing by the locals. How would you feel if one day you were all looked after and fed and the next dumped, confused and frightened? :D

I stand by my post. It's easy to buy pedigrees here and a lot of people do so on a whim. I note one of the OPs dogs is a pedigree boxer. The others that merely take in a stray puppy and find themselves having to leave have my sympathies.

  13. I used to live just across the road from the Green Man and visited perhaps once evey couple of weeks or so. Which then got down to once a month, 3 months etc. The food was never good. And like most restaurants on the island, you had to take a chance that the chef on that particular evening was having a good day.

The food most definitely 'sucks'. It is bland, and the last time I was there I ordered what I would consider to be, an easily prepared dish of fish and chips. The fish was burnt on the outside, soggy on the inside, with raw fish, and the chips weren't much better. I like Howard, but he should get over himself and stick to the managers/chefs which turn in the best of what is usually, a godawful dining experience. He made a huge mistake with that tiny little bar too.

  14. I have to agree, K.L.Mart is a total dump, complete with grumpy staff, dusty old products, absolutely zero air circulation. It's one of those places that was built for aircon, but they don't turn it on, so it is hot as the hubs of hel_l in there. I think I lost at least a kilo of sweat just trying to pick up a few last minute items. I seriously doubt they have anything fresh in the store, especially fresh produce/meat. My gf reckons places like that turn off the fridges at night to save money(which helps explain the sour milk they sell).

Personally, I can't wait for the new Tesco to open. After being ripped off and sold out of date products by surly Thais for yrs at filthy mom and pop stores, I only shop at supermarkets that use price tags(unless forced to while out in the sticks).

When I first arrived on the island, some ten years ago, KL Mart had a cheese counter only Central could dream of. And then the superstores started up and KL and their ilk lost a lot of business. So go easy on them. I am absolutely pro consumer choice, and would balk at paying over the top prices (not ALL of which can be found in Thai run sores, by the way :o ), BUT, give them a break, you don't have to shop there, and they've been trying to keep in business, against all odds, for a very long time now.

  15. Another angle on the 'I've had my house up for four years and it still hasn't sold' crowd is that maybe it hasn't sold because no one likes it. I've met no end of farang who turn into architects as soon as they hit the tarmac. 'Oh, took me two whole weeks to design that'. Mmm. That long eh? Then there're the ones who've picked out a design, hand over a load of dosh to the builder and clear off for a few months, not wanting to 'deal with the locals', and come back to find the stairway up the middle of the sitting room. No through doors. Windows in the wrong place. And then complain that the builders made a pigs ear out of it.

In the UK and most of Europe, the housing is pretty much standard for the area. I don't know what comes over people when they come here and turn into a wannabe architect without the benefit of the seven years training and experience. I suppose it's because they can. There's some godawful design here.

  16. These are trying times for all...

Drunken Riot Police Officer Complains to PAD about Lack of Rest

Late last night, a minor chaos broke out at the People’s Alliance for Democracy rally in front of Government House when a drunken riot police in full uniform approached the protesters.

The officer complained to the protesters that he’s been on duty for three consecutive days and misses his family.

Chaos broke out at the People's Alliance for Democracy stage late last night when the protesters spotted a police officer in full riot gear approach the rally. It was later discovered that the officer was intoxicated.

Security volunteers at the PAD rally took the police officer into custody. He’s been identified as Police Sergeant Major Jaras Chaichana of the Plubplachai police station.

The officer was still in his police uniform and equipped with a helmet, baton and a tear gas canister. A security volunteer explained that they had to take the officer into custody because of his apparent intoxication. However, he sympathized with the police officer who’s been on duty for an extended period of time.

Police Sergeant Major Jaras said he did not mean to create chaos or harm the PAD protesters. He admitted that he was drunk and claimed he was driven to drinking because of the stress of watching over the PAD rally for three days and three nights, without any breaks to go home to his family.

The officer said he’s suffering from so much stress that he’s thinking about quitting the police force.

    - Thailand Outlook

:D This is one of the many reasons I LOVE it here! No one like the Thais :o

  17. just think though, if you were a senior phuu yai sitting at the cabinet table, barking out un-though out policies to the TAT people, you'd be taken very seriously and we'd have massive investment in all of this. The army would be happy as well.

I just think you need to expand your war safari idea.

"Night war safari" is a much better extension of your original thought. Patrols on the burmese border, smuggling logs and opium across into Thailand. That is what I call eco-tourism.

and women and children and looted antiques, endangered species, wow the list goes on and on!

  18. I think the situation is very simple.

Do you want Taksin back in full power or not. :D

I can not think that a reasonable man would like to have Taksin back so he can fill his and his friend’s pockets even more and make to poor people in Thailand even poorer.

Yes he started a lot of projects for the poor but almost none of then worked for a long time and died a silent dead.

Good for PR but poor for the country. :o

For the first time my wife is getting involved in politics as she always said that whichever man is in power they will steal from the country for their own benefit.

But now even she says enough is enough and went to Phuket and Bangkok to support the rally’s. ( good for her ) :D

Exactly. And what was the first thing on the agenda as soon as he stepped off the plane? Legalize gambling in Thailand. So he could set up some nice profitable casinos, after the uk told him they didn't want him to set one up there. That tells you everything you need to know about him and his proxy. Stuff the lot of you I want more money. :D

  19. It would help if you know WHO's selling and WHY; extremely important ! Try to find out before you offer...

    LaoPo

The agent does not have to tell you who is selling the property.

The seller does not have to tell you why he/she is selling the property. The seller can also totally make up a false story about the reason why they are selling.

Exactly. What's it got to do with you who owns a particular property and why they are selling, apart from the fact that you might be able to take advantage of someone else's 'distress sale' that is?

  20. With regards to Sociology, I must confess, I am rather ignorant. But as I get older I can't but help notice that selfishness and greed must be contributing factors to the dysfunction of the Society of which I am apart - I live in the UK.

So is it a " Every man out for himself, ****** everbody else" attitude that contributes to Social Isolation, here, in the West? Of course everybody needs to make a living and provide Shelter, Food etc for themselves and in many cases a family too, so prehaps it's just the busyness and lack of time to think about others?

I am 33. When I was 26 I met, ( In Thailand), married, and brought a Thai girl back to the UK, where we now live, still together, 6 years later. One of the first things my wife commented on about life in the West, was the lack of community and the feeling of being alone, which is natural to somebody coming to a strange new Country from a considerably different Culture, in her case Thailand.

But she is still baffled that people can live, side by side in a residential street, all their lives and not even know their neighbours.

When we return to Thailand for our annual holiday and to see the family in Issan, and are in the village enviornment, with all the goings on, It strikes me how isolated people are in the UK, usually chronically so.

Anybody with a B.A in Sociology?

Yes, that's one of the things I really miss about being in England :o Oh, and as for the selfish and greed thing, I take it your wife doesn't come from Phuket then?

  21. He has nothing to return to his homeland for. He is a lost cause in many's eyes, but returning home isn't an option at the moment. I think he has his passprt with him at the ciast, but a few others tell me his girlfriend has it. Apparently the ladyboy has been hanging around near where he works.

    Poor bugger

What? do YOU know him as well as 3billygoats 2long?

  22. You flipped some guy the finger and got beaten up for it. It took you how many years before you learned that lesson?

The guy deserved the finger, he was driving negligently and rudely.

Yes the guy deserved the finger. If only the OP had explained that to the three men as they beat him up...

Here in Phuket you just have sooooo many terrible drivers, and soooo many people that do not abide by the rules of the road that it is almost impossible not to get upset. Really that's why I prefer the motorbike....

Today I was in the truck, I had a Toyota SUV, one of the bigger ones (Fortuner?) riding my rear bumper at 120, trying to get past but we had trucks and slow moving vehicles in the slow lane. The genius then swerves all the way to the left to pass all in the motorcycle lane and almost kills an old guy on his bike with the side car !!! Just amazing.

I never do anything like road rage, but at times I do like to jam up these a**sholes, box em in or brake a bit when they are tailgating.

    Beware of guns though...

Yes, I've also had some incredibly rude, not to mention downright dangerous, driving experiences here on Phuket.

But, do you know? After the first time I had someone pull up alongside me forcing me to stop and pointing a gun at me, I had a Thai friend go and buy me a Great Big Gun (we're not allowed to of course). You should see the look on their faces when I stop, or, more effectively in my view, actually reverse back down the the road and stop directly in front of them, and pull it out, the gun that is :o and point it straight at them:lol:

(This works incredibly well on a certain class of farang on their hols who think they can get away with driving as rudely/badly as the locals, by the way. In fact, you can actually see them shit themselves).
