  1. Very possibly. Many of the responses to the story, though, shows that coronaphobia is still alive and well in 2023.
  2. Every Friday morning (day after welfare payments were handed out), downtown Cairns looked like a war zone - broken windows, rubble lying around, cars trashed, blood spattered all over the place. The Railway Hotel, the favorite haunt of the Aboriginal community was usually left as just a burnt-out shell, and the place was constructed deliberately in a way that it could be repaired in a day or so, at minimal cost.
  3. All these wonderful numbers from Big Pharma are regularly declared like the Soviet tractor production figures ....
  4. Ah, "the truth is out" about Covid, is it? Yeah, that'll be the day ....
  5. O'Sullivan has publicly committed to the tournament, according to Eurosport, quoting his Twitter account. "Big hello to all my snooker fans in Thailand, I am delighted to be coming in March for the 6 Red World Championship in Pathumthani for the first time!!"
  6. There seem to be plenty of people around who have had 3, 4, or even 5 anti-Covid injections, generally wear face masks, and they are still fearful and feeling unwell. It's a tragedy for them, and not entirely their fault.
  7. Some of these top players, notably Ronnie O'Sullivan, have a well-documented history of withdrawing from minor tournaments before they start if they happen to feel like it.
  8. Only 4 needed to qualify - Jimmy Robertson, Ali Carter, Zhang Anda and Chris Wakelin - the rest were invited.
  9. Most of the world's top snooker professionals - including Ronnie O'Sullivan - are slated to play in the Six-Red World Championship in Bangkok in early March, according to the World Snooker Tour. https://wst.tv/quartet-are-bangkok-bound/ Included in the 32-player field are O’Sullivan, Judd Trump, Mark Selby, John Higgins, Mark Williams, Kyren Wilson, Shaun Murphy, Jack Lisowski, Barry Hawkins, Luca Brecel, Stuart Bingham, Mark Allen, the veteran Jimmy White and more. Thailand's female world champion Mink is also in the draw as well as 6 Thai male players. Whether all these stars actually turn up is another matter - the tournament has never had anything close to this quality show up before. Another website suggests that the event will be held at the Thammasat University Convention Centre, which appears to be way out in Rangsit, but details are sketchy. In short, the whole thing seems a bit ad hoc, so if anybody finds any more information, that would be great.
  10. All the Thai bashers on here fail to appreciate the sublime acrobatics which enables Thai government ministers to shoot themselves in the foot while putting their foot in their mouth. If you don't look carefully, you might think they were simply shooting their mouth off, but in fact there is a well-nurtured mass of drooling stupidity at play, which can be called upon at a moment's notice to annoy everyone and thereafter damage the country.
  11. Because some people do not belong to the herd mentality. There are still some people who are capable of doing their own research, and coming to their own conclusions about whether the risk/benefit of the Covid "vaccines" makes any sense for them, rather than blindly accepting everything the Government tells them. Of course they will suffer in terms of travel restrictions; Governments promote and encourage the herd mentality, as it makes people easier to control. Like Novak Djokovic, those people who have decided against vaccination are prepared to put up with the inconveniences of not submitting to Government diktat, especially as it is clear that the restrictions make no sense in health terms.
  12. "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." - often attributed to Albert Einstein.
  13. Just when you think this country couldn't get any more stupid ... they always prove you wrong.
  14. Not to mention all of those tourists who have already booked flights who may not have had the "vaccines" that Thailand is now demanding again. A complete mess.
  15. All visitors to Thailand must show proof of at least two Covid-19 vaccinations under revised rules that coincide with the revival of travel from China, according to some national English-language newspaper in Thailand. Hardly "measures to welcome visitors" - instead, a return to the insanity of 2021/2 which ruined the tourist industry. So much for the economic revival driven by tourism. But I bet they can't keep it up for more than a month.
  16. I can almost see the meeting. Anutin: "We mustn't discriminate against the Chinese." Minister of Sport: "But Everybody Else is doing so." Minister of Food: "We mustn't discriminate against Everybody Else." Anutin: "Let's discriminate against everybody!" Minister of Submarines: "Hold on there, professor. Everyone's had two vaccines in China, right?" Anutin: "Er ..." All Together: "Brilliant! Two vaccines or no entry. Fairness for all." Minister of Tourism: "Didn't we try that before and wreck our tourist ... " All Together: "Shut UP!!!" Can it really be that after 3 years, the madness is still getting worse?
  17. Society used to believe that parents would work hard so that their children could have a better life than they had. That's pretty much what the American Dream meant, especially for immigrants. That was what we called "progress". Now governments have decided to sacrifice the physical, emotional and educational development of children in order to "protect" the elderly and very sick. It's obscene.
  18. Thailand is demonstrating more common sense on this matter than much of the rest of the world, which either means that Thailand has advanced rapidly, or that the rest of the world has regressed into farcical stupidity.
  19. One more than you currently have taken. The booster merry-go-round works like the sign "Tomorrow, free beer!!" - you can never quite reach the promised land.
  20. And it is a politicization that will take a long time to eradicate. After all, Charles Mackay, as far back as 1841, pointed out in his book "Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds" that: “Men ... go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, one by one.” The same seems to apply to governments, who virtually all went mad in 2020, and only a handful have so far made it back into the world of sanity and reason.
  21. No, you are being deliberately misleading. There will be another pandemic this century, and nothing we can do will stop it. That is the lesson of history. There were 4 or 5 pandemics in the 20th century (depending on your definition) and the emergence of Covid-19 shows that we are still nowhere near smart enough to stop the next one.
  22. Pandemics cannot be stopped. There will be another one sometime this century, guaranteed, and we just have to hope we have learned to be a bit more courageous in the face of it, rather than becoming unglued in a disastrous panic.
  23. @Bkk BrianAs I wrote, but you didn't read, we know we can stop some pathogens, by measures such as those that you mention. But unless we get a whole lot smarter, we will never be able to prevent all pathogens, any one of which could turn into a pandemic, and inevitably will in the future. We'll just have to hope that when the next one hits, we are not so feeble and panicky as we were this time.
  24. Thereby demonstrating their smug anti-science stupidity.
