I think he's his own "mate"?

    Answering for a friend.

Still confused on the itinerary and carriers. I see Myanmar, Myanmar Airways, Singapore, Qatar and Doha all mentioned.

    Was it RGN-BKK-DOH-LHR? Or SIN-BKK-DOH-LHR? Or RGN-SIN-BKK-DOH-LHR?

If one of the first two, and in theory with an interline agreement, separate PNRs could be linked, onward BPs issued and baggage checked through, allowing for an int'l-int'l connection at BKK. Which is what I infer happened.

No, it wasn't my wife, so I'm not my own mate. It was actually MO, an admin from the former Secrets board that got the ball rolling and sorted her visa as a favour to me for my mate who is a complete pleb( my mate not MO).

I'm not sure where SIngapore came into this but she flew from Yangon to Bangkok on Myanmar International Airways then from Bangkok to Doha then on to London Heathrow with Qatar airways.

How is she going to leave airside and check in with Qatar airlines?

Will she have USD $50,000 D Health Insurance,  and all requirements of Thailand pass complete including preflight PCR tests and booked hotels and tests?

Maybe she can just recheck in airside at a Qatar connecting counter.

Passing through immigration and customs to go to the fourth floor at BKK requires meeting all the entry requirements of the country normally.  Now, one would have to go straight to ASQ, Test and go, or Sandbox.  She probably needs to make inquiries with the Qatar to have somebody meet her at her gate of arrival in BKK. As you know now times are not normal,  it is a nightmare.

We have had problems with offline deadheads and staff travel. Normally they don't let you board anyway unless you have a confirmed boarding pass leaving the airport of transit already. Example now changing terminals at Narita airport for passengers is NOT allowed, there is no inter-terminal bus. To transit Singapore airport you have to have one itinerary with same airline or alliance partner.

To actually pass through immigration and enter Thailand would require all sorts of things including a Thailand Pass QR code, pre-booked hotel pacjage (room, meals. COVID test) for 24 hrs, health insurance etc etc.

However this is often not  necessary just to change to a connecting flight, even on another airline.

Suggest she call the relevant airlines - start with Singapore and find out if they will be able to issue both boarding passes (sometimes possible if there is a code share arrangement). If not, call Qatar airlines and see if she will be able to check in at transit counter.

If she cannot do either of things then there is a real problem and simplest solution might be a different routing. Otherwise, plan on at least 36 hour stay in Thailand and go through the whole Thailand Pass application process. What that will add to the cost may exceed what it would cost to change routing.

Reverting to the origin al question (which is least of her problems) to enter Thailand visa exempt or as a tourist, suppose to have at least 20,000 baht equivalent on her though not often checked for.

P.S. according to regulations issued last March, insurance is required even to transit through Bkk airport. I have no idea if/how this is enforced.

Because she changes airlines, she has to pass immigration, so she will need to apply for Thailand Pass, spend a night in a hotel, etc. before she can continue to the UK.

The money requirement is usually never asked for, but it's 20k (I think only 10k if visa exempt, but Myanmar nationals probably don't qualify for visa exempt)

There should be a Transfer Desk before immigration where she can check in for Qatar,

I cant see this working. It's separate tickets and the airlines are not partners or codeshare (even on code share it wouldn't work),  and I presume she will have luggage?  She won't be allowed to board her first flight as Singapore airlines will check the entry conditions, and they wont ignore them just because you can present a ticket with a different airlines within a few hours, don't worry about the cash requirement as she wont reach BKK

I doubt it if she stays in the airport - there is nowhere to spend any money.  Of course that would be asking for a logical answer.

Can someone please explain why there is a problem?

On arrival at Suvarnabhumi, the lady will get off her flight from Myanmar and head for the transit lounge. From there she will head for the departure gate to board her Qatar Flight. She should have the relevant insurance to transit through Suvarnabhumi and to enter UK (?).

Is it no longer so straight forward?

It is not clear that she can check in for both flights in Singapore. She may have to check in with Qatar airways in Bangkok. If so, it is not clear whether they have a counter in the transit area where she can do that.  If not -- or if she has check in luggage that could not be checked throughto UK (as may be the case if the two airlines don't have an agreement) then she has to pass through immigration and officially enter Thailand with all the attendant requirements.

    Wow!

So many "if's" and "not clear's".

    What a pain.

An Update for anyone that's interested.

She contacted Myanmar Airways that put her in touch with a Burmese Travel Guru, he got in touch with Qatar for her and had an airline representative meet her off her Myanmar flight then escort her to the correct gate for her Qatar airways flight.

On arriving at Heathrow she had four and a half hours in Immigration where we couldn't find anything out, I begged Qatar departures desk supervisor to see if she could find anything out and she told us she had boarded at Doha, a security guard eventually showed me where I could phone immigration on a phone that never got answered.

Eventually she came wandering out and all is good.

I'll give Qatar, already my favourite airline 10/10 for going above and beyond the call of duty and UK immigration 1/10, they didn't even bother to phone my mate to verify anything and she couldn't phone out.

She's doing the PCR test before she leaves Myanmar but she's not got a hotel booked, she only has 3 hours between flights I actually think she's only got hand luggage but I assumed that because she was changing airlines she'd have to pass through immigration to check in with Qatar

  4. My mates Burmese wife finally gets to join him in the uk in 2 weeks. She's flying into Suvarnabhumi with Singapore then the rest of the way with Qatar. Because she's changing airlines she's going to have to leave airside and check in again with Qatar airlines, will she need to show cash to prove she can keep herself when "leaving the airport" and if so how much? We've been trying to find out but seem to be going in circles, I thought it was $300 US (or 10,000Bt) but she thinks it's $1300.

It is not quite that easy if you've been living out of the country for some time, though there are ways around it. In simple terms you have to demonstrate you've moved back permanently.

I was in hospital in London for an operation in December, before I had it they wrote to me and asked me to prove I was eligible for free treatment. They sent me a list of items needed to prove my eligibility, passport, drivers licence etc and then council tax/gas/electric/phone bill to prove I was a UK resident. It seems that if you've been living abroad for more than 18 months you have to pay a percentage of the costs. I actually struggled as all my bills are paperless, they wrote to me twice saying the first lot of proof I sent didn't cut it so I sent a load of printouts of bank statements proving I'd been in the uk for the last 18 month.

I'm not sure this is every hospital but UCLH are definitely taking the matter seriously.

  6. That's just the problem you ran into. You DO seem to want to talk your lady up, and it comes across as ego-stroking. Why all the personal info about her and the pic, it's irrelevant.

Your point about the gym seems to be validated by other posters, but your sprouting off about the gf makes YOU look like a tosser.

it keeps the discussion going doesn't it? I think the thread would have died by now otherwise :o .

  7. You come across as an insecure, jealous guy who couldn't handle a fit young man acting friendly to his incredibly beautiful girl. By your own account you're practically an invalid yet you talk about feeding this guy to the fish.

You come across as one of those guys who needs to impress upon everyone that their girl is different and "not of those bargirls". In the Philippines and Thailand we hear this every day.

He was the same age as me or looked it. I left the UK because of "feeling guilty due to past indescressions" and have no wish to return because I don't like the person I was and don't want to be me again there or here. A lot of nasty people in Pattaya and I don't want to add to that.

  8. There is a LOT wrong with that story. Anyway.............thats by the by.

I don,t know of ANY Hi-So Thai female that would wish to be seen with a farang apart from the VERY good looking and VERY rich ones.

I fall into one of them categories, is that good enough? apparently so :o

  9. My first post[/url] then kiss my....

Your link provides evidence that you are a sex-mongerer anyway because you spent time in Angeles City (why else would a person go there?) What was your beautiful Thai lady doing while you spent time in the sex capital of the Philippines? Were you looking for the most beautiful girl in the Philippines too?

I went to Subic Bay for a job interview but spent a few days in AC because a number of friends were there amongst other things. But if I want to fxxk anything that moves then that would be my decision.

As for "why do I consider him a Yank?" what are you talking about? He spoke with an LA accent. Besides I never called him a yank, I called him American if you care to read the thread instead of looking for an excuse to turn this into a slagging match

  10. I have to return to the UK at the end of March for 3 months due to the necesity to visit hospital for an operation. Now, given the uncertainty there has been with visas from other western countries I want to reapply for my visa at the first oportunity i.e. as soon as reasonably possible when I land. My last visa doesn't run out till the end of May now will they allow me to renew it before my last one expires and does anyone know about the start date.I mean would it not start till the previous one ran out or would it have 12 months from the date of issue to start using it (as I expect)?

  11. I was fairly in shape till September when my digestive system broke and almost killed me. A month in a London Hospital losing 19kg from when I went in and 8 weeks recouperation and I'm in pretty bad shape now. Best get my ass to Tonys

Now the truth is coming out. You don't live full-time with the most beautiful girl in Thailand but you leave her alone for months at a time while you're in England.

Read My first post then kiss my....

  12. As for being old, I'm 40 is this old?

Not if you're healthy and stay in shape.

35-40 is the pique for some men, their strength and body shape.

As for me, 40 is only a few years down the road (though most people guess I'm in my late 20's).

I was fairly in shape till September when my digestive system broke and almost killed me. A month in a London Hospital losing 19kg from when I went in and 8 weeks recouperation and I'm in pretty bad shape now. Best get my ass to Tonys

  13. Welbeck, you live in Pattaya with the most beautiful girl in Thailand (I didn't see the pic before you removed it) and you get upset when someone hits on her.

    What a joke!

Everyone knows where you found her...what do you expect them to think about a beautiful girl with a Farang in Pattaya, and especially since she's the most beautiful girl in Thailand? As far as the Thais are concerned she's anyone's game. If you can't handle this, leave Pattaya and live somewhere else...maybe an isolated farm or island where contact with other men is limited.

You should get a grip, because if this minor incident bothers you, you don't have what it takes to hang on to her.

I am curious as to why the most beautiful woman in Thailand wants to be with a cry baby?

Where did I find her and what makes me a crybaby?

I highlighted this incident to bring to light unprofesional working practices and to let people know what to expect when they walk in this place I couldn't give a toss what other people think about what happens in my personal life.

  14. Anyway, your girl shouldn't break up with you over something like that. Clearly there are other things going on that caused her to turn sour, not just this farrang salesman.

This is what's eating at me on this. Why is she angry that some guy knows that her boyfirend doesn't pay her for sex?

The only reason I can think of is that this made the other guy angry (the guy who does pay).

This really rings the "true bell" for me, with the OP talking about his "too good to be true" situation.

The point was that I'd alegedly had a discussion about her sex live and she had been put in a very uncomfortable position because of this and felt betrayed by me. We were having a bit of a rocky time but this was just what ti needed to push it over the edge.

As for being old, I'm 40 is this old?

  15. Why did you not bring her there and confront him and ask him if he did in fact know you? That is the obvious solution...... something wrong with this story....

    Damian

We are only just on speaking terms. I wrote it down as soon as I could, like I said I apologise if it appeared disjointed but I wanted to commit it to writing while it was still clear in my mind.

I'm not a tourist, I do live here and am a familiar face around Pattaya and a big poster on other Thai forums.

The term Hiso is something she has told me about herself and members of her family nothing to do with my opinion of her financial/social status.

As for Na ling it is something that was said as a joke to her one day which she thought was funny and she refers to me with equally complimentary names, I know it is hugely offensive but was taken in the spirit it was meant.

Maybe it was wrong to post her picture and I ask if it to be removed

  16. Probably for less than a year's membership at said gym you could see to it that this guy's kneecaps have a rendezvous with a few mallet-wielding locals :D

    Watch this space :o

This is the lady in question, my na ling
