The whole article (including the Thai archeologist) state that it is Khmer from the era when the Khmer Kingdom existed on current Thai geographical land. Where is the "Thai ego" you're talking about?

I was not referring to this particular article. I was referencing to the past practice of the Thai government and her people's penchant for claiming all things Thai even though it was created or built by the Khmer culture. the dispute over Preah Vihear is a prime example.

I read today that Malaysia has 'officially' overtaken Thailand as the second largest motor vehicles market in SEAsia (for 3 quarters in a row).  This huge news because Thailand at 71 Million people was for a long long time second only to Indonesia with 277 Million. But Malaysia has only 31 Million and it has pushed past Thailand - meaning its economy is growing at a much faster rate than Thailand.  As I stated above, SEAsia manufacturing across all industries is now being dominated by Indonesia and Malaysia - when 15-20 years ago it was Thailand who dominated. This 10 year Visa is a lame attempt to 'attract' wealth into Thailand via the EEC, and IMO it is doomed to fail.

good information. And it won't be long until Viet Nam surpasses Thailand as well.

Thailand is not a democracy, it's a demonocracy.  Feudalism (sadly) is alive and well in Thailand. An unmentionable implemented  unspeakable scenario  used to control and manipulate the serfs and peasants.

I have often told my Thai wife that the difference between Thailand and Viet Nam is that Viet Nam doesn't claim to be a democracy. Before any posters think I'm way off, look closely how both countries control their media, newspaper outlets,  foreign relations with China and Russia,  the wealth distribution, the out of control corruption at every level of society. The similarities are endless.  Lastly,  Thailand has the royal family and hiso in control,  in Viet Nam is the powerful Communist Politburo with an exclusive 200k party membership and all the benefits for its family and friends. Sound familiar??

The government's tourism goals include 80 million tourists by 2027 and promotion of event-based tourism for higher revenue.

if they ever reach that lofty and outrageous goal, the tourism sector will account for 90% of the GDP!!
