  1. Best advice is to have a will for each country covering monies and assets in each country, along with a named executor for each will. Without a Thai will naming your Thai partner as a monetary beneficiary and for exactly how much, she’d have a difficult time getting your money from the bank.

  2. six foot diameter piping and junction boxes”

Six feet diameter pipes! are they expecting rain anytime soon?

This all seems like the promenade in Pattaya where they continue to lay pavers onto sand and wonder why it gets washed away every few years, or the wooden boardwalks installed a couple of years ago and guess what, they’ve rotted away and need replacing.

They need to employ engineers who are at least aware of how erosion works.

That’s a whole lot of transfers to inactive posts!

It’s a growing industry, but fortunately, when there, they don’t have to do anything productive.
Still plenty of positions in the “moved sideways” vacancies. Rumour has it that new offices are under construction to house them. Of course many brown envelopes have been handed out for the contracts to construct them.
Everyone is a winner in the BIB world.

  4. Had a full medical at 70, the full works and given the all clear. I’ve an App on my phone so I can get to see all my medical notes including all scans and X-rays etc that the Gp has written into my medical records.
I did notice that he’d made a note that I had no nasal dripping, although he didn’t question me on my nose. So nasal dripping must have a medical reason other than allergies or Rihnitus etc.  Otherwise why put the observation in my records. ????

  5. In the UK Banks £85,000 (Baht 3,570000) would be covered in each bank account, with the exception of banks that control other bank titles.
I wouldn’t trust many staff in any Thai bank not to ripp you off.
The wife had accounts in 4 Thai banks in Hua Hin, mainly because she needed to bank the businesses weekend takings on Monday mornings and would choose the one with the shortest queues as hundreds of Thais banked their weekend wages and business takings.
She doesn’t trust Thai banks either.  ????

This is just like the people who move into a house next to a motorway or under the flightpath to a major airport then complain about the noise !!!

    Easy solution - move to a ’non-tourist’ area !!!

Or better still, realise they are tourists themselves and move back to their home country. ????

  7. What a palava. In the UK just take passport sized picture to post office, your UK driving license, pay £5.50p and fill in the IDP get it stamped (I think but can’t be sure) and you are good to go.
I passed my Thai driving test in Pranburi in less time than it took the OP to get his IDP, mind you I failed the brake test, the Coloured circles test and the perifical sight test, but the guy doing the test was obviously infatuated with this Farang, so 200Baht later I’d miraculously passed my test, so did my Thai wife.  ????

Get outa here, you're making this up!

Reminds me of the man that fell into a huge vat of beer in a brewery when working alone.
When the police were called they found him dead in the beer and checked the CCTV.
They were baffled as to why he drowned, because they saw on the video that he got out 3 times to have a wee.  ????

  9. The family business in Hua Hin has been extremely busy for months, but mainly

Hi So Thais, a few Farangs but no Chinese.
I remember back along standing at my front gate on Naebkehardt Road and watching a fleet of coaches arriving at the Itsara beach front restaurant, out would pour a hundred Chinese or Taiwanese tourists and 45 mins later out they’d come, climb aboard and off to the next “tourist attraction” after swilling down a 3 course lunch or dinner.

I was extremely glad our place wasn’t on the tourist map, but was always packed with money spending BKK HiSo’s. Even now, they have to close the gates because they are full on Thursdays, through to Mondays.

  10. The list of best places to stay change every year depending on how much the magazine is paid by a country to push their name up the list.

Wait for a few months and the thousands of virus carrying Chinese holiday makers who will have spread the latest strain across the country and you’ll see Thailand shooting up another list.
The list of places to avoid.

Never been a fan of this crypto stuff, and have watched smugly as the price collapses. Too much of it seems to have been used by criminals, a big no-no in itself (and a good reason to regulate if not ban it, money laundering is illegal) , and then there are the horror stories of people losing their hard drive where the file was stored, thus losing everything....

But the methodolgy always struck as me as wrong. First, it requires so much computing power to generate the coins (as we see in this article), but apparently only a certain number per hour can be TRADED  (I've never looked at the details, but compared to currency exchange which is millions per hour this makes it nonsense)  - and last, apparently there is a finite number of coins that CAN be generated!

    Fairy gold.

Only a fool would keep their coins on a server that they don’t control. Put your coins into an offline personal wallet for which only you know the security key code.

Having said that, only a fool buys hundreds of computer chips and the rest of the infrastructure to mine coin.

  12. The wife regularly used to take the Minivan from Hua Hin too BKK and come home with some tales of terrible  speeds the drivers drove at.

Decided that it would be better to buy her a new 7 seater of her own as despite her driving, she was safer in her car than in a minivan with some drivers spaced out on cheap whisky and YaBa

I have no real idea as my state pension was frozen at the 2009 rate as I live in Thailand'

    Having said that, then this....

https://www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/money-legal/pensions/state-pension/new-state-pension/#:~:text=The full rate of the, paper statement if you prefer.

How much State Pension will I get?
The full rate of the new State Pension will be £185.15 per week (in 2022/23) but what you will get could be more or less, depending on your National Insurance (NI) record.

You can check how much State Pension you could get on the government website or, you can request a paper statement if you prefer.

That comes to around £9,627.80 for 52 weeks of payment currently.

I get £240.49 UK State Pension every week, that comes to £12,505. Due a “pay rise” in April of 10%. ????

Indeed. These Miss so n so competitions always seem to be loaded with over the top done up ladies with excessive features. Seems to impress the judges. Each to their own, but if she was walking down the street in normal garb and makeup she’d no doubt turn heads.

    Or stomachs.
She and most of these so called Thai girls that enter these competitions look nothing like genuine Thais.
Give her a hose down and remove the mud pack makeup and she wouldn’t make the top thousand.
Still, no doubt trump would pump it for fun.
