G'day Cat... Just remembered!!! The hotel is Submukdahan, i was there late dec, paid 500baht a night..

I fly on the 29 march, You never know, i might bang into you up there

  2. It's not perfectly acceptable it's just in common usage (in British English).

"British English", as opposed to English? Surely English will suffice. "American English", yes.

The only time i seen some one sitting on the bus was on a trip from

savanakhett to vientiane,, the rest of us sat in the bus

  3. When i lived in Bangkok, i didn't used to mind Songkran, it lasted only 3 days or so and was bearable but here in Pattaya it goes on for a week and is just downright dangerous. Hence i try and get out of Thailand for that week, and was just curious to what other members did, i also know that some people love Songkran in Pattaya or Khao San Road and come to Thailand in April especially for it. For me last year was Angeles in the Philipines and i reckon there must have been well over a hundred Bangkok and Pattaya x-pats there that week.

Anyway staying or going and if you go where do you go???????

    BB

    comming

  6. You will not know this mans intentions or real personality until you spend more time than you have with him but if he seems genuine & you can trust your own instincts then, as others have said, the only thing you have to lose is your heart for a while (we ALL suffer a broken heart once) If you can afford to spend 3-6 months in Samui without working then that is the better route to go IMO. If he is working full time & you are working full time then you will never get to spend any time together or the time you do have will be after a stressful or busy work day.

If at the end of that time you are both still happy & he is still the man for you then think about a more permanant move and if he is the one, then he can wait for a while why you go home to sort out your affairs & if he isn't, well, 6 months isn't too long out of your studies. :o

You would want a well paid job! Couldnt image you to living on his wages

  7. I miss a sense of history and tradition, old architecture, a fair police force, knowing that if I had an accident people around me would know what to do and that an ambulance would be called, driving in predictable conditions, being able to read a current newspaper and read something informative and intellectually stimulating, good bread, real cheese, cleaner air, not sweating so much, England's green countryside and probably more.

If you miss that sh#t so much ..What are you doing in thailand

  8. I just feel like renting is wasting too much money, which I can't really afford. It all adds up over time. If I'm going to be spending so much time in Thailand, and eventually even staying once I get the proper qualifications, I don't see anything wrong with owning a condo there. But it sounds like I should try to do better than 40k if I don't want to be in a complete ghetto, which I don't really mind, although I don't feel like getting my shit robbed. I'm definitely taking everyones advice here under consideration and have more to think about. Thanks

Guy If you have got the money go ahead and buy a condo ,I go 4 times a year, and the inconvenence of getting and paying for hotels etc, I decided to buy one,, 2 bedroom 77sq 1.3ml, I go back this month to finalize everything, When you think about it, its always there when you need it,

(And no its not in the ghettos)

  10. here in South Oz, more specifically around Pt Wakefield area they run 250,000 chooks per shed, the growers get around 10 cents per chook and the cycle is 45 days, my company supplies the back up generators for them.

FXXk bronco they must be Big sheds,, you sure thats not the total number of birds on the farm, I fit out the sheds with all the feeding. drinking, cooling system's (tunnell ventalated sheds) we have just finished 12.. 600ft long x 65ft wide ,These shed"s are capable of taking 50.000 plus chickens,

  11. Nearly all of the big chicken farms are tied into one of the big agrro companies ( CP, Sara Farms ect) You get you chick's from them and they are then returned to the factory 35 days later, your paid for the difference in weight from when you buy to when you sell. They will have detailed plans of the chicken sheds with costs. If I remember correctly your looking about 1.5 million bhat for a 12-15,000 chicken shed. There is a 10 day delay before you get your new chicks for cleaning/airing the shed so it's a 45day cycle.

The big companies will also help with loans, the downside is you are totaly tied to them in buying feed ect. Basicaly they are just farming the risk out if the chickens are culled or dont gain much weight then it's your problem not theirs. I used to know someone with a 15,000 shed he reconed he made about 20,000 bhat a cycle but I can't attest to the accuracy of those figures. Since the outbrake of birv flu the big companies have been pushing pig farming quite a bit

Here in australia we keep them for up to about 8 weeks. some will be processed earlier, a 35 week old bird would'nt be much bigger than a sparrow, these would be for the likes of kfc etc. We have poultry sheds that range in size from 20,000 to 50,000 bird capicity

  12. Actually, the right term is "sidewalk" (US English) or "pavement" (British English). A footpath is what goes through a park, a garden, a campus, and so on.

Okay, okay, yes, "footpath" is Thaiglish for the above, we are in Thailand, etc, etc. Yet the last thing a Thai "footpath" is for is feet.

And if all the motorcycle taxis get cleared off them, I'll eat my shoes, all of them.

Australian english....its is also called a footpath

  13. Hello All, I really need some advice, I am from the UK, I've been living in Thailand for the last 6 months with my Laos girlfriend (pratically since I met her), she is here legally on a tourist visa, myself on a Non Immigrant B.

I've recently found out she's a month pregnant which is nice but also incredibly worrying. We are quite concerned due to the nature of Laos laws regarding Laos/Foreigner relationships.

The UK embassy have said I need to apply for a fiance visa, if I want to get her into the UK, I think this is our only option. My mum has agreed to put us up when we get back and is to send proof that she owns her house and we can live there etc., we've also applied to be married at a registry office so that the British Embassy can see we intend to marry.

I am very concerned about our poor financial status (afterall I've been earning in Thailand) and the lack of ability to prove I can support her when I return. I've asked my Dad to send his bank account statements across but he's a technophobe and is worried about being de-frauded. I'm also unsure of the process and wondered if anybody with prior experience can help. I'm thinking the best thing to do is put her application in motion and then return to the UK to find work.

I am getting quite desperate, we have 6 weeks left in Thailand before our visas here finish, I do not intend to go to Laos for fear of arrest. I am worried if she stays in Laos with the baby what will happen. We're very much in love and want to be together and help give our child the best possible start.

Can anyone give me some useful advice?

    Thanks

My ex girlfriend is from laos, she had a baby last year to a falang, ( baby born in thailand )doesnt seem to worry her, shes in and out of laos with the baby on visa's to thailand,

  14. :D

This could also be part of a program to increase the perceived level of fear in the population. If they can make people afraid of 'terrorist attacks', the current government will have the excuse to remain in power and not revert to a civilian government. They will have to power to do whatever is necessary to protect the Kingdom from a terrible threat.

This sounds very familiar to those of us still living in the good old USA!

    :o

    Yes very possible scenario.

And it sounds very familiar in the old IRA days in London too..The enemy within..we must unite to fight..

However as others have noted..do we even know who did the New Year bombings?

:D some one that looks like this
