I completely agree with your statement. I have been buying weed for almost two decades in Bangkok. Never heard of cops planting weed to make an arrest. THere were numerous occasions when they raided a bar at late night (after 2AM) and urine tested all present.
Well, they had better step back from me a good two meters....

Yeah, sad.
They also catch and kill mynah birds for food. I expect ten might feed a seven-year-old.
I love those birds....highly intelligent and beautiful sounds.

My neighbor has a cast net.
He goes early in the morning to the beach and gets fish for eating.
When these fish are full-grown, he told me, about 10-12 inches, they are good eating.
However, all the ones he brings back are two inches or smaller.
I asked why he doesn't ever catch full-sized.
With a puzzled look that told me I was borderline stupid, he said, there aren't anymore, just small ones.......????

You can get much with it.

I had a long hard think on how Thailand being "unique in their world view" is impacting my life.
Still thinking. I'll need to get back with you later.
Well, unlike westerners, Europeans even more so than Americans, the typical Thai has no concept of any culture outside of their own, fortified by school officials telling children for over a decade that they are the superior culture.
If one has to spend more than three minutes considering how that might impact ones life living here, well.......
If we do not know other cultures, we can neither fully understand nor appreciate our own, nor make needed changes to it to make it better.

Take a photo of what you want and show it to them. No need for any discussion in any language.
Don't learn Thai doing that.
Is there no one here who knows about apps.....?

Don't use Google Translate.
When I ask my friend to translate what I want to say in Thai he writes it for me and says this is more or less how a Thai would say what you want to say in English. ????
I have to. My Thai is just a few months old. So I need it when I go to HomePro, etc, looking for something I don't yet have the words for.
Problem is, they can't answer....

Thailand's motto is no longer, Amazing Thailand....
They have officially changed it to Hubba Hubba.
To pronounce properly, make sure to use a long, drawn out rising tone on the last syllable.

The shop owner should stick his finger in there and the turtle will be happy to choose digits....

So, we downloaded Google Translator for English-Thai/Thai-English and it works fine from English to Thai, but ....
When we switch it to Thai-English, it takes the Thai being spoken and thinks it is English and makes up idiotic nonsense....My Thai neighbor said, Sawadee Krap and it translated it as, It's a lot a cr@p.
Well, if the shoe fits...
What do we need to do to make Thai to English work?
New I-Phone...

Find a Thai criminal lawyer (yes, I know that is likely redundant) and go to his office. Tell him your name and address, give him a few thousand baht as a retainer, take a handful of cards....
If this kind of thing happens you are good to go. Thai poor-lice won't push the matter once they see you have his card in your wallet and you ask to make a phone call.
Like any con, they prefer easy pickings.
