  1. I just purchased my third Kindle from Amazon, it should be here in a couple days. Just bite the bullet go online and buy from Amazon you get the one year warrantee and its delivered right to your house. I see they have the entry level starting at $119.00 then you add shipping and customs total about $150.00. The model I bought has 3g same as the one I'm replacing, I've purchased and downloaded books in the middle of Issan out in my in-laws rice farm using the 3g. I mean you just can't get any better than a Kindle go for it if you are an avid reader as I, you won't be sorry.

  2. I don't think a corn plaster will do the trick. Many years ago I had the same problem in the States. They were called Planter Warts--looked just like a corn on the bottom of my foot--very painful. They first tried to burn them out to no avail and finally they had to cut them out. My recommendation go to the Government Hospital see a Dermatologist and get them taken care of because they will continue to grow and become more painful the longer you wait. Good luck

  3. I bought an LED smart TV to replace my old Plasma and my electric bill went down about 2000 Baht a month. My wife watches a lot of TV so you probably won't get the same savings. My 55 inch LED uses 124 watts and my 50 inch Plasma uses 450 watts. Go with the LED

  4. I too wanted Coopers' acc they were the highest rated in Consumer Reports--an American magazine. I settled for Bridgestone A/T's instead and have been very happy. No road noise and good traction plus there is always a dealer just around the corner if you have a problem. My concern with the Coopers' was the importer was the other side of BKK and I live in Pattaya--I had the option of driving to his shop to have them installed or he would mail them to me and I install them myself.

  5. Today my better half went to Banglamung hospital to check on what Bahtboy informed us.

They pretty much confirmed what Bahtboy told us i,e, that for the moment they do NOT accept foreigners, and that the insurance was intended for workers from Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia only.

Furthermore the woman explained that the computer program needed is not in place yet for us farangs. When my wife asked whether the computer program for those foreign workers was in place because its the same program, the woman in question became evasive and my wife did not insist more.

So Bahtboy my apologies seems the neighbour who said he has a card from Banglamung was either lying or as someone else suggested they accept only a certain number of foreigners in any hospital.

    Again, I'm sorry

    Yermanee,

Thanks for the follow through and correction---a rare thing indeed on TV.

  6. here's a google map (work in progress) which shows locations of some automotive suppliers including wheel and tyre shops in and around Pattaya - which are mostly located along Sukhumvit Rd - so maybe OP can try a few of these places out. http://bit.ly/15jf2Uv Please feel free to add any places (nationwide).

Good map, thanks for taking the time to research and reply.

  7. Don't forget to pick up an Air Gauge while at the tYre shop! biggrin.png

Yep ! if you buy tyres from " Cockpit " they have Bridgestone A/T and others and for the life of the tyres you get nitrogen check & fill for free. biggrin.png

A tyre guage is still needed for initial check on pressure because they always over inflate then I use to check every 3 months.

Must get a nitro fill up in the Bike too. biggrin.png

Thats the info I wanted thanks.

  8. Hopefully the tire shop would also have Nitro to air up the tires.

This one's gonna light up a fire.. Not literally, but in debate terms..

hehehehe.. yep, all the theorists, google experts and argumentative-about-everything's come out of the woodwork for this one smile.png

I will take this opportunity to have my first and last words on the topic.

    Try it for yourself smile.png

Back to the OP: My recommendation is to have a look around the Thai websites for tire brands so you can understand what's available in TH (much smaller range than US), then go look at some of the better US tire websites and look for some objective test comparisons so you can decide what you want first.

    Then try to find that..

If you rely on the recommendation from a tire shop, you'll very likely just end up with whatever is in stock / makes the most profit.

Thanks for the reply, I have done the research and narrowed it down to Cooper Discoverer, Michelin LTX, Hankook Dynapro and Kumho Road Venture. I am looking for a big tire store in Pattaya that might carry these brands or, if not, at least one that has other AT brands I can pick from.

  9. Looking for a Tire shop in Pattaya with a good selection of tires for my Mu 7---245/70/16. I'm after an All terrain type that doesn't make a lot of noise on the freeway. In the States I used B F Goodrich and was very happy with them, but i'm open to suggestions. Hopefully the tire shop would also have Nitro to air up the tires.

  10. I moved to Pattaya in 2006, when I retired, and have never had any regrets about the move. My Thai wife and I bought a house, in a village, in Jomtien that allows me to walk to the beach everyday. Makro for shopping is a 30 min walk or a 5 min drive, Pattaya for nightlife is just 20 min away by car. I used to do the nightlife, now I walk on the beach, not quite the same rush but one of the reasons I chose to move here from the States. Soi Chaiypruck has many coffee shops and restaurants.

    Check out Jomtien Beach

  11. I remember the days of the 1997 crash. 60 baht to the dollar! Actually would like to see that again, but not likely.

I remember the days of 1968. 25 baht to the dollar.

I started coming to Thailand in 1985 and it was 25 Baht to the dollar and rubber stamped at the same rate for a few years
  12. You're quite easy to please. You pay 1900 baht for the visa but they can't make the photo copy themselves - instead you have to walk out and pay 250% the going rate because the copy shop happens to be next to Immigration. You were ripped off on the parking on the street (no, it's free). You waited an hour just to complete some bureaucratic form that effectively makes no difference to anyone except those bureaucrats having a job processing it. You paid 5 baht to use the toilet in a government building. I don't know where you come from but it's very different from how things are where I come from (Europe).

  13. Clean them all up I say!

There's a few more shady characters that need to be eradicated from the area.

Pattaya was great before the farang takeover!!!!!!!!!!

here we go again its Pattaya's fault.

    What does this mean?

"Pattaya was great before the farang takeover"

Where you around when Pattaya was great but only just noticed Thaivisa and joined last year?

I do not know if it ever was great.I was there 4 years ago and to me it was not Thailand it was a drunk and rowdy farang city 24 7. Have to pay me allot to live there.

Just what in the heck are you doing here then
