  1. Flown into and out of Ahmedabad many times over he past 25 years. Always on business as it's not the most scenic of cities. So this sad event really hit home.

I had the dubious pleasure of being the 1st passenger to arrive at the new International terminal about 15 years back. This was on a Qatar airways flight from Doha at about 4am and I happened to be the only passenger up front. The bottom of the steps were well lit up and I only realised it was some special event when I saw the camera crew and being pressed to shake a few hands after descending the steps. This extended to the entrance to the new terminal where, having been driven there in splendid isolation on the usual clunky airport bus, some guys from Immigration and Customs were also wanting to shake my hand. Rather surreal. That was the only arrival at the terminal for that day and for a few days after as this was deemed an auspicious day for such an event, ready or not!!

Computers sleep on public/bank holidays 🤣 (Mon June 2nd and Tue June 3rd). Maybe Tue 3rd is not a bank holiday.

According to the BOT website both 2nd and 3rd June are now bank holidays.

I would suspect that the info given to the other poster is incorrect and that any transfer will be received on 4th June. But, who knows....

  3. I have used the following email for contact with DWP. This was a coiple of years back when I also had issues with delayed payments.

    "TVP.INTERNATIONALQUERIES(at)DWP.GOV.UK"

Response time was, i believe, a couple of working days. So not too bad.

Tak Bai, very dangerous place, lots of terrorism in the region.

Glad I don't live down there.

Worked across the border, around 40km away, Kota Bharu for a few years, unfriendly people there to, glad to get out of that horrible place.

My recollections of that area are rather different, albeit that was from the 90's when I was working at a construction project in Kelantan for about 7 years. I would travel to Tak Bai on many weekends to stay at the Tak Bai Lagoon Resort and found the location and the people to be rather peaceful. The subsequent happenings obviously had an impact on the security in the area.

I understand that compensation of Bt7.5m was paid to the families for each death and lower amounts for those injured. Goes without saying that no level of compensation would cover for such a loss, especially given the horrific nature of the event. As for the lack of accountability..........he topic comments cover that aspect.

  5. Similar issue with my normal UK bank to Wise to BBk transfer as noted by other posters.

Sent my usual 65k on Monday prior to 9am Thai time and advised to  expect receipt at 14.13 same day (including email confirmation). With usual caveat of 'may take up to 2 working days....' whereas advised day of receipt has always been the actual date of receipt for a number of years with similar transfers (retirement purposes).

Not received on the Monday but did land on Tuesday at around 14.00. Delay of no concern to me but does suggest a change in BBk account credit actions, temporary or otherwise.

  6. The final few overs of he final were epic. That boundary catch was unreal and the last couple of overs from Bumrah prevented SA from reaching what should have been a fairly simple target of a run a ball over the last 5 overs.

I was in Ahmedabad in May on business and arrived there on the evening of the IPL final. The traffic was horrendous, more so than usual, and only realised the game was being held there when I eventually reached my hotel from the airport. They do like their cricket......

escaping the heat back home maybe!....

Certainly in northern parts of India. I was in Gujarat for a week on business and returned on Friday. The temperatures were in the mid to high 40's the whole time I was there. Ahmedabad was brutal.

Flew back via Delhi and the Thai Airways flight was packed, an A330, and having a 3 hours delay didn't help with the poor airport experience. Immigration and security checks being a PITA.

Getting back to BKK and being able to use Fast track due to age qualification was bliss.

India? If not for work issues I would keep well away. Coming to Thailand for the Indians must be a real joy on all fronts....
