$200,000 USD is over $300,000 AUD. Sounds suspiciously like the hospitals having a lend of them dollar wise. Even my Thai wife thought it seemed excessive medical bill. Nearly 7,000,000 baht!

we do not need to see these addicts on every streetcorner
now cannabis is not even legal for 1 year
and it destroyed most off the citycenters all over thailand
it smells terrible everywhere
those cannabis tourist from all over the world are a nusence for all self respecting people
with their eyes popping out and stinking op the place its worst than the pollution in burning season
and than there are people gathering signatures for keeping the cannabis on the street
maybe we should start gathering signatures to ban it again i think this would be many more
I'll bet you're a blast at parties. ???? I don't touch the stuff but I've also never seen 'addicts on every street corner' or 'destroyed city centres' like you're espousing. Care to give some examples?

There was a media report a couple of days ago outlining the gradual removal of all restrictions and by July it was suggested it was to be back to normal, no test and go, no PCR/RAT on arrival or on day five. Hopefully that will be the case.

1 hour ago, smedly said:you are missing the point, the fact he was permitted to rent the scooter is the issue as already mentioned earlier in this thread
In the UK or any western country for that matter (were laws and standards are enforced) you would not be able to rent any type of vehicle without a valid licence
this has all be mentioned in this thread already - maybe you should try reading back through it
I 100% blame Thailand for pretty much "most" of the stuff that happens here to tourists injuries - on the road or water, this place is dangerous, people living here understand that - those coming here on holiday maybe not so much - Thailand has a duty of care and they make no effective effort
Want to see a list of things you should never do here on holiday - better still, don't leave the airport
Give it a rest bud, you're defending the indefensible and failing miserably. He made a stupid decision end of story and NO-ONE, Thailand especially should pick up the tab for his dumb decisions.

Have to agree, why would anyone pull 800,000 baht out of a super fund usually getting 7% plus and put it in a thai bank and get what 1 1/2---2% interest..
Its called lifestyle choice I guess. 800,000 baht at 7% ROI (your example) is 56,000/yr. 800,000 baht in a twelve month term deposit (at Kasikornbank for example) is 10,400/yr - thats 45600 baht difference or 3800 baht per month. I don't know about you but I would think that the cost of living difference between Thailand and a western country would make it worth sacrificing 3800 baht a month to live there.

FMD - as other posters have said, watching that is cringe worthy and I'm surprised the obnoxious Scottish knob didn't get smacked down or at the very least locked up. Strutting around demanding an ID card as though he's someone of authority. He needs anger management and an attitude adjustment. An embarrassment to farangs everywhere.

Its crazy - I think most people come here for updates on how its all going (well at least I do anyway) yet all there seems to be are armchair experts from the TVF's offering this or that opinion on what should or should not be doing or how they should do this or that. Its pretty pathetic really. FWIW and my 2c's worth - let the professionals on the ground, both Thai and international do their job and make the best decisions they can considering the situation..

Since they have to swim on their own in some sections, I guess that wont work. I do wonder how all the equipment they are taking in and out of there swims on its own? Must be pretty high tech equipment..
Nobody said It was not risky either.
What a stupid idea. What happens when in near non visibility water one of the boys mask become dislodged or water egresses into the mask? With their hands 'binded' and they cannot clear the mask themselves? Do they rely on one of SEALS who may or may not see the situation in time? I'm glad you're not in charge.

My Thai wife just said that on the Thai media they are just reporting one of the Thai SEAL team has met with tragedy. Anyone know if this is actually the case? Hopefully not.

10,000 baht is still cheap for a decent mattress here - we just purchased two from a furniture shop near Kumtieng and they were 12,000 baht each but they were pillow top with decent inner springs. They also had there a memory foam one which was super soft but 18,000 baht though. If you come down from the north east corner of the moat going to Kum Tieng garden market (behind the Tesco Lotus) the furniture shop is on the right before the first set of traffic lights.

That's about what I was expecting
My retirement is due on 09-05-2018
Where is Oz does your mate live?
He's in Taree NSW and from the horses mouth (centrelink) that was what he will get as of last month. Half your luck being retired in May this year. PM me if you need any more info. Cheers.

Hi Mate
Can you explain the Centrelink loopholes you have mentioned
I was under the impression that once I was of retirement age I would only lose about $10 a week but still entitled to my pension when I move to Thailand
Any advice would be appreciated
Cheers
Geoff
P.S. Private contact details available if you need them
You're right bud. One of my best mates is coming here in April on the OZ old age pension. He loses the energy supplement and a couple of other small things but the rest is portable and he will get around $800 a fortnight whilst he lives in Thailand.

Do you have anything at all to back up such innuendo? Or are you just defaming the restaurant out of spite because you get a headache?
Some people just have to denigrate and whine bud.

Would it help if I told you they want me to pay the fine at Pra Sing police station (center of all police corruption/music license scams).
And not Chiang Mai Provincial Police Traffic Operational Center, near the market/river where traffic violations are normally paid."
I could be wrong but last time I rode down that way it was demolished. Unless its been rebuilt? Anyone know?

But they aren't posting on Facebook beforehand that they are hoping their victims have a miscarriage and posting umpteen videos on YouTube clearly illustrating that he cares nothing about the victims, but only about himself.
There are many reasons why this character should be kept away from the rest of us, but they cannot be covered within this thread.
The UK newspapers are currently reporting about him for something other than the incident in Phuket. "
That in itself right there is pretty ordinary isn't it?

all in hand Mate, its still an accident..............lighten up, less stressing over nothing that concerns you, you'll live longer.
It wasn't and 'accident' it was negligent driving/riding. You seem to imply by saying 'accident' it was no-ones fault. I looked at the video a dozen times and Glass was clearly negligent in the manner he operated the motorcycle. FWIW I investigated traffic collisions for over 20 years.

Yeah, I found the guy at Lumphun that makes them - not quite the same but close. I will go out and see him when we get back there. Cheers.
