  1. That's interesting.

Lets say you go for once a week and she normally charges 600 baht a cleaning. Wouldn't it be usual to agree on a lower per-time rate due to the regularity?

Geez H Christ!!! 600baht a cleaning ? :o The condo cleaner at my place charges 200 baht and usually is there a few hours. My condo is 104sqm, tiled flor etc. IMHO once a week AT 200 baht would be fair. Any more I reckon is way too much. I even know Thai builders that only charge 200 baht a day AND they do a good job...... Just my two bahts worth............ :D

  2. where did i hear this: no money no honey

    mustta been a bad dream

If you hear your Thai lady friend saying that run a mile!!!!

    That or "same same"

Only prostitutes say that. The guy didn't say he was wanting Thai women for sex.

My Thai lady says those things albeit in a joking manner and we have a laugh together about bargirls saying it to their customers. BUT.... she's not a bargirl, but a well to do and respected business owner. Don't listen to 'Neeranam', it's bullsh*t for him to generalise like that.........

  3. My girlfriend owns a tourist related business here (internet cafe) and turnover is DEFINATELY down compared to previous years. As Ta22 says, I think this can be atributed to a combination of factors: the political instablility, the bombings, the pollution here in the north, the visa regulation uncertainty and so on. We discussed only a few days ago about how there seems to be less farang around at this time of the year compared to oher years. It will be interesting to see how things pan out over the next 12mths........

  4. Yeah I agree with you 100%, I think that it is outrageous that they charge 1000% more just because you are a farang. I went to Doi Inthanon last week with the g/f and her two kids, 40 baht for her, 30 baht for the car, the kids funnily enough weren't charged, well that is what she told me AND 400 baht for me. Personally I wouldn't pay it but we wanted a family day out so had no choice. I've spoken to other farangs around here who have point blankly refused to go National Parks because of this reasons. Can't say I blame them. Plenty of other places to go. I can understand you being pissed off StickKettleOn...........

  5. Yeah I noticed that the pollution is bad again today as well!! Seems like that as soon as it clears then the Thai's attitude is thats its ok to start burning again. Work that out!! I really don't think that anything will change and we just have to wait for it to p*&s rain!!! :o

  6. nice first post ..................

I not one to suggest this often but if you feel you need such items perhaps Thailand is not for you ,

    Extreme adventure tourism ???

Considering the many reports of attacks and violence that occur here AND in other countries, why is Thailand 'not for him'???? The guy goes back to his place late at night. Obviously he feels the need to protect himself. <deleted> is wrong with protecting yourself against scum? Can't understand your logic mid........ Just because it hasn't happened to you doesnt mean that it can't happen, here or anywhere else!!!

mrchallenger, try MBK I'm sure will find what you want there.

  7. Here is a video that was published on www.youtube.com of us preaching the word of God in Soi Nana and Soi Cowboy:
. Much of the video films the response that we get from the preaching. And they call us crazy? I would rather be crazy for the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ than the devil. I am a fool for Christ; whose fool are you?

    A few questions/comments, Bro.

    What visa are you on?

Do you think you are desirable farangs in Thailand, making a big public DISTURBANCE pushing your religion in a BUDDHIST nation?

Why doesn't Bangkok Bank go after real weirdos, like you?

They call you crazy because you are. People try to have an intelligent conversation with you, and all you can do is revert to rote praying. You don't think. You believe. Is it any wonder fundamentalists of different religions, like you, are the root cause of international world conflict?

You are entitled to your view and opinions brother tony BUT you do not have any right to cast those views/opinions on anyone else that does not agree with you. You remind me of those Jehova Witness 'devotee's' that continually try and convert the unwilling. Really you are are loser. It was once said to me that 'religion is a crutch for weak people', so true.... and before you go off preaching some gospel to me ... blah blah blah yeah yeah yeah be pre-advised that I'm not interested, like the majority of others I suspect. Get a life!!!!.....................Oh and btw, I don't even frequent nana or soi cowboy....

  8. - Having a gun or a weapon . is not a scary thing , but the intention to kill is importance .

If you are trying to protect someone or yourself , and you find it really needed . to draw a weapon .

DO have the right mind to fire it ,not wave the weapon around .

Offen life and death is between one that fire the weapon or one that just put it out to show there have the weapon .

    -

You know how cow boy movie alway have cowboy saying something before there fire .

    that bullshit .

in a real life and death - i will rather shot first talk later if i choose to draw on any kinda weapon .

Sad to know such thing happen .

but the last mercy you wanna give is one who try to rob you .

Robber be warn . you can rob me but you might die trying .

    cos i don't have a a merciful heart .

    Ditto Ta22,

I spent 20 odd years in a frontline law enforcement role in a police department and thankfully did not have to use lethal force BUT.... as you say, mindset is a big thing. And as s you said, shame the lady didnt't have the mindset to shoot first and talk later but I guess hindsight is always 20/20....... Terrible shame nevertheless..........

  9. Just heard that the gold shop at the market at Chiang Mai Gate had an attempted robbery just now and that one bandit was shot dead by the shop owner and the other arrested. Police everywhere and the road is blocked off. No further info at this time.

So what? Nothing like a bit of prejudicial retribution. So the lady shot some ###### that was robbing her......So would I given the chance. I remember a few years ago when the police in Phnom Phen blew a gold shop thief away with an RPG. They didn't find the stolen gold or much of the thief as well.

So what? What? I agree with chuchok, a BIG ###### what - because the shop owner lost her life over some lowlife! Ditto - RIP my thoughts go out to her family............

  10. Hi All, thanks for the good info on the forum.

I'm due to complete purchase of condo unit at Twin Peaks Chiang Mai soon.

The prelim closing statement indicates a 'registration fee' of more than 43,000 baht.

I realize that there probably is such a fee payable, but the amount seems excessive to me. I suppose this fee is paid to the "Land Office" upon registration so the amount may be determined by statute. anybody with experience or information to indicate whether the charge is legit?

    thanks in advance!

    Hi gankeowan,

Does that inlude any stamp duty? I'm completeing the sale on a condo in Chiang Mai in April and I was quoted about 70,000 fees on a 1,300,000 sale price. This however included everything, transfer fee, stamp duty etc and I was able to negotiate with the owner for him to pay all the fees. If the fee is paid to the land office you can be assured that it will be correct but maybe suss if twin Peaks requests payment direct to them. Maybe a check with the land office on the fees applicable to your purchase might be the go. Cheers!!!

  11. Hi guys,

I'm back on Oz now at my home brew shop but I am putting together some stuff for when I come back to CM on the 27th. Particularly some wine yeasts, beer yeasts and also some turbo yeasts for spirit manufacture. If anyone wants me bring some stuff back for them PM and I will get back to you with cost etc. Yeah a brewing club sounds like the go Mike and btw I will throw a few airlocks in the suitcase for you and PM you when I get back.

    Cheers,

    Dave :o

  12. A Non Imm O visa if you are married is unlikely to be refused. An extension will not be refused if you can meet the conditions.

I would not be so sure.

Clearly they want to see money (and taxes).

And since 01/10/2006, they want to see the sort of income that an average young Thai couple could only dream of!

Permanent stay on continuous "back to back" multiple entry visa is ABUSE of the system.

(Expect more doors to close in the future here too).

BUT DO NOT DIVORCE simply because your government is xenophobic (and insecure economically/politically).

They will no doubt face a lot of pressure from Farang spouses and parents (and hopefully their Thai families) when they seriously restrist issuance of NON-O visas.

(They are only at the the "level" of Visa-free entries for now).

Hey! I am happy to see an affected Thai woman standing up here! (But sad reading about your story).

Gee, just where do you get the information that permanent stay on 'back to back' multiple entry visa's are an abuse of the system? From my reading of the regulations it is perfectly legal and acceptable to leave every 90 days and then return and stay another 90 days irespective of how long the break is in between staying in another country, be it one day or one hundred days................. Whats your problem? Sounds like Chicken Little.......... the sky is falling.................... :o

  13. Hi guys,

I have a home brewing shop in Oz and I originally looked at supplying brewing stuff here in Thailand (I'm in Chiang Mai btw) but found out that brewing anything of any sort, even for your own consumption, required an excise licence. That said :o ...... I'd be happy to get you some stuff (yeasts, hop, wine making gear etc as Im heading back in five days to check on my business, vist friends etc then coming back here in March. My g/f has a business here as well, (Ticky Internet Cafe) If you want anything, or want my contact details, PM me.

    Cheers Dave

  14. Interesting reading about the Thai gf's being questioned upon leaving the country. I've left the US plenty of times and have never once been questioned about it. I don't understand why Thailand would care if their own nationals left Thailand. My Thai gf and I went to Malaysia a couple months ago and they actually stamped her passport as departing Thailand. I wondered why. One should never have a stamp from their own country in their passport. It makes no sense.

Can anybody explain why the Thai immigration cares why these Thai girls leave the country or why they bother stamping their passports for departing?

    Thanks

Dunno about Thai's leaving Thailand but in Australia it seems to be a bit hit and miss - sometimes I get a 'departed australia' stamp in my passport (I have an aussie passport), other times none. So it seems that it depends on the individual immigration officer that 'stamps' you out of the country.... :o

  16. Hi All,

I am just posting this as an update for those looking to get a similar Visa.

    My Situation:

Living in Australia with Thai GF. Have been for the past 6 months.

She has 12 month multi entry tourist Visa for Australia.

We have known each other nearly 2 years.

She is pregnant with our first child. Due in 6 months.

Went to Thai Consulate in Brisbane today.

Had a shave, put on a clean shirt ect...

    Produced the following documentation:

    Visa Application form

    Copy of GF Passport

Copy of GF Thai ID Card

3 Months payslips for me to prove ongoing income

Copy of letter from a company I own, confirming that I own it and will continue to get paid in my absence.

    My Passport.

    1 passport photo.

    A$225.00

Basis of application: To go to Thailand for the birth of our child and support my GF in that process.

20 minutes later I left with Non Imm "O" Multi entry.

Staff there are very helpful, friendly, overall a pleaseure to deal with.

Hope that this is of some help to others out there.

Hi Auusietravller. THanks for the update. I'm in a similar situation, 47yr old, leaving LOS on 29th going back to Oz but want to return in March or April, have a Thai g/f (but no baby on the way :o and am self employed) I was tossing up ways to extend my time back here until retirement or marriage, tourist or non imm 'o' visas - sounds like multi entry Non Imm 'o' is the way to go if I can get it. Thanks............

  17. I've been up and down Central Airport Plaza looking for this games shop and damned if I can find it. I gotta get glasses I think. Anyone know exactly where abouts its located? Thanks in advance.........

  18. The games shop in the food court area of Airport Plaza has them for, I think, 14K Baht at present.

    Hey p1p,

Does this games shop sell xbox 360's? Trying to find out if they are available in cm as well and if to check prices/games etc....... thanks wadsy

  19. Tragic waste of young lives. Although the article doesnt say, reading between the lines, to me, it does sound this was a combination of:

    1. Intoxicated driver of the bride/grooms car (poor, slow and overreacted judgement)

    2. Irresponsible and blase motorsai riders with the ' YOU get out of my way because I am going here and ###### the consequences attitude' (I wonder if the motorsai even bothered to stop?) and

    3. Irresponsible speeding pickup driver (Nothing ahead - I'll go at break neck speed)

    Hapens everywhere....................
