I have been following the growth of the cannabis industry in Thailand very closely since decriminalization and I wanted to offer a slightly different perspective based on my own experiences....<snip>

Loved your elaborate take on Thailand’s cannabis scene, spot-on about the variety and how price doesn’t always equal quality. I’m with you on most of what you said. We probably just see different corners of the market.

You’re right that tons of small growers are putting out clean, organic buds at great prices. We work with a bunch of them, and their stuff is legit. But there are some sketchy products out there too, especially from illegal exports that got stuck. No clue where it all lands, but most of it definitely hits the local market. It’s tough for the good growers to compete with that cheap, chemical-treated junk.

Like you said, PGRs and fake terpenes are usually easy to spot if you know what to look for. Problem is, not everyone does. I’m hopeful that better regulations will sort this out, stabilize prices, and let the quality growers shine.

    Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Since Thailand decriminalized cannabis in June 2022, the industry has exploded. Shops are everywhere, growers have multiplied, and cannabis has become part of everyday life. Sounds great, right? Well, not entirely. While prices have dropped dramatically, so have standards, and without proper regulations, buying safe, high-quality weed can feel like navigating a minefield.

    Low Prices, Lower Quality

These days, you can find cannabis as cheap as 8 baht per gram. Great news if you’re after a quick bargain, but here's the catch: you might get exactly what you pay for—low-quality, chemically-treated weed. Illegal and unlicensed grow operations have flooded the market, driving prices down and squeezing out honest growers who follow safety standards.

Shops selling super-cheap flower are usually cutting corners. Chemical-free cannabis cultivation is expensive—it requires careful attention, controlled environments, and quality nutrients. Legitimate small-scale growers can't survive selling at these rock-bottom prices.

    Beware of Toxic Practices

To cut costs and increase profits, many growers rely on synthetic chemicals like Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs), specifically paclobutrazol and daminozide. These chemicals may bulk up buds, but they're harmful—linked to serious health issues like liver damage, cancer, and fertility problems.

Even worse, pesticides and harsh chemical fertilizers are commonly used. Some growers may claim their weed is "chemical-free," but in reality, they're spraying cheap, toxic substances. Many dispensaries also sell cannabis sprayed with artificial terpenes to fake a premium aroma, hiding poor-quality or even moldy buds.

With almost no enforcement on lab testing, Certificates of Analysis (COAs) are often faked or skipped entirely. Unless you're getting your weed from a trusted source, you have no guarantee it's safe to consume.

    Challenges with Regulation

Thailand's cannabis regulations are still unclear and inconsistently enforced. All growers are technically required to have a growing license, but very few checks are actually carried out to regulate practices. There are no mandatory inspections and few controls on retail sales.

Edibles often exceed safe THC levels, cannabis is easily accessible to minors, and there's barely any legal framework around responsible usage, like driving restrictions. The lack of clear laws has left the industry chaotic and dangerous.

How to Stay Safe (and Happy!)

Here's the good news—safe, quality cannabis does exist in Thailand! It's just a matter of finding the right source. At PrikPot, our priority is your health and happiness. We offer a free replacement if you are not satisfied with the product.

    What makes PrikPot different?

    • Chemical-Free and Safe: We work exclusively with trusted growers who use natural cultivation methods without harmful chemicals or pesticides.
    • Fair Pricing: Quality cannabis doesn't have to break the bank. We offer competitive prices without compromising safety or standards.

    Support Ethical Cannabis

By buying from responsible dispensaries like PrikPot, you're supporting ethical practices and helping protect Thailand's cannabis future.

    The Future Depends on Regulation

For the Thai cannabis industry to thrive and remain safe, clear regulations are needed:

    • Mandatory inspections and permits for commercial farms.
    • COAs required for all cannabis products sold.
    • Strict limits on harmful pesticides and PGRs.
    • Government support for genuine chemical-free growers.

Thailand's cannabis market stands at a crossroads. You, the consumer, have the power to choose safety, quality, and transparency. At PrikPot, that's exactly what we're committed to providing.

Visit us at Prikpot.com and experience cannabis the way it should be—clean, safe, and truly enjoyable.

So, my lungs really don't enjoy smoke.  I'm much more interested in edible cannabis.
My question is simply:  Does anyone have any information about the best way to get some edible cannabis with decent thc content, preferably at a reasonable price.

There are not many legal options available, which is unfortunate since edibles make more sense if you use cannabis for medical reasons. However, there is always Dip Trip, a completely legal product we developed in collaboration with a 'snus' factory in Thailand. It can be consumed as a dip (snus) or as a tea.

The only quiz question I'm interested in is this: Are there still fools out there paying 200 Baht per gram from this website when anyone with a functioning internet connection can hop onto LINE and order top-notch weed for a tenth of the price?

I mean, unless you enjoy getting ripped off as some sort of expensive hobby, in which case hey, who am I to judge?

Ah, the old price issue again. We have everything from 30 baht to 200 baht per gram, it all depends on the quality you’re looking for. We are also licensed, tax-registered, and carefully source only the best flowers.

Can you find cheaper options elsewhere? Possibly, but you risk getting lower-quality flowers, potentially grown with harmful chemicals. Some of the flowers we sell are priced at 3-4 times our rate in some of the more touristy locations.

    I'll apologise if you do.

The brick we offered was a free promotion, 100g free if spend more than 3,000 baht. It is made from Dos-si-dos flowers that are 22%. That said, we did not test this one and it might be a little weaker depending on the bland, but it is perfectly fine for a daytime buzz. And it was free.

This is not true. Prices here have already dropped and are a lot cheaper than in the US or Europe. Check Shopee, Lazada or even on Facebook for prices if you dont believe me. 495 baht for 20 grams of dried leaves (powder) is absurd for a locally grown plant.

Kratom in its infancy here.? Have you ever driven down south? Hundreds of roadstalls are selling leaves and tea. Powder is just dried leaves (1 night in airconditioned room will do) without the stams and veins, 20 grams of powder is worth not more than 20 baht.

Thailand has the Maeng Da strain, which is a lot more potent than the Indonesian strain.

Yes, the prices for leaves are quite low. However, powder is more expensive, and understandably so. The leaves you find in many places, such as from roadside sellers and others, are often of very poor quality. We have selected the highest quality leaves for our product. Similar to the variety found in cannabis and wine, there's something for everyone. Our aim is to offer a convenient method for consuming Kratom, packaged in a way that's easy to carry in your pocket.

Regarding the term 'infancy,' I was referring to the commercial market here, which is not as developed as it is in the US, for example. We might have a different perspective on that, not necessarily the same way you look at it.

Not everything in life is about price. Then old saying about the fool who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. And I'm not saying that this is the case here, supplements are a rip-off and all, or almost all, are bad value for money. Ask yourself why in the US or UK or EU you can buy supplements at 1/4 of the cost than in Thailand.

Do agree with the old saying. ????

It's not entirely fair to compare established markets like the US, where Kratom has been used for many years and there is a significant supply, primarily from Indonesia, to emerging markets. The commercial Kratom market in Thailand is still in its infancy. However, as the volume increases, prices are expected to drop. For instance, a product comparable to ours retails for about $15 in the US, which is slightly more expensive than it is here. Over time, and with streamlined production, we anticipate that prices here will become much lower than in western markets.

In general though, vitamins and supplements are still a LOT cheaper in the US, and I don't have an answer to that.

Kratom is know to cause hyper pigmentation of the face, this should put women off using it,

It's not entirely accurate. There was a study that examined women who chronically consumed excessive amounts of Kratom and found that they developed excess melanin, affecting their pigmentation. Like with many substances, excessive intake can lead to adverse effects; even water can be detrimental when taken in excessive amounts.

Our product, at 500mg per capsule, can be considered a very small dose. Thus, it's easy for individuals to start with this amount and then adjust the dosage to find what feels appropriate for them.

    See here:

    Quote

"There is limited scientific evidence to support the claim that kratom causes hyperpigmentation specifically in women. Kratom is a herbal supplement derived from Southeast Asia and has been traditionally used for its stimulant and opioid-like properties. However, there have been reports of skin discoloration or hyperpigmentation associated with prolonged and heavy kratom use. It's worth noting that these reports are anecdotal and not supported by rigorous scientific studies.

If you're experiencing any unusual changes in your skin or have concerns about kratom use, it's always best to consult with a healthcare professional who can provide personalized advice based on your specific situation."

That's 20 grams (not 200!) of kratom powder for 495 Baht.  1 kilogram of fresh kratom leaves costs only 130 baht here in the south, and makes a very potent tea.

I recently bought 500 grams of Pathum Thani grade kratom powder for 600 baht., which is about 25 times cheaper than the Prikpot product.

That should of course be 20grams total, I will ask admin to correct this (40x0,5=20).

In terms of the prices for fresh leaves, yes, they are significantly cheaper compared to powder and capsules. Transforming them into powder results in a different yield, and the process of creating capsules and packaging them involves labor. Our PrikHut is priced more affordably compared to competing products and packaging, offering a convenient choice for consumers. We also offer both volume discounts and you also get a 10% off on all our products with the voucher code: ASEAN10

Our product offers a much more convenient method of consuming Kratom, and one can is expected to last for about a month with normal use. Many individuals we've spoken to find the idea of chewing the bitter leaves unappealing.

could we please see some kind of testing results for the 25 % thc claim.

    thank you.

We don't test for THC anymore since the results varies depending on which bud is measured etc. The THC claimed is an average that gives an indication of the strength. Also, THC alone is not a measurement of strength or potency, thats a common misconception.

We wrote about this in more detail here: Does THC value really matter?
