Trash westerners from the richest countries on earth as dirty and diseased. And then welcome tourists from a country with the world's largest number of destitute and diseased (India) that have just opened rock-bottom budget flights to the Thailand.
Please. Someone explain the misguided logic that went into the decision making process.

I would like to have a lady and a ladyboy for an evening of stimulating conversation.

There is NO objective answer to such a question ... the use of a smile is ALWAYS subjective my inquisitive friend.
What folly was my question!

I enjoy the Thai smile which I think is, mostly, genuine.
I think you are, judging by your accurate comma placement, an English teacher.

If an agent shows me around a condo that costs 19k pm, where does his commission come from? Am I paying 19k instead of 18k?

Even if you ask directly at the counter of the building that doesn't mean the owner won't pay a commission. Sometimes/often the people behind the counter collect the commission. And if the owner doesn't want to give them a commission, then they conveniently forget that that unit exist. Welcome to Thailand!
And obviously any information about free units with phone number might be from the owner or an agent. You just don't know. And also shops etc. in those buildings charge the same commission.
I've just accepted a commission will be taken. I don't really see anything wrong with that system anyway tbh.

Personally I would try to stay as close as possible to where you mostly spend your day or night.
And if work in A but go regular out at night in B then I suggest try to find something in B.
Obviously it is annoying to get to work every day. But it even more annoying to have a long way after you go out at night.
Even in lower Sukhumvit you can get reasonable prices. Just don't look only at the first and new buildings in the soi. A few hundred meter into the soi (easy with motorcycle taxis) are prices often a lot better.
Sound advice. I want to be near a BTS around popular spots - Sism, Asoke (for my Terminal 21 lazy dates).

The old (often bitter) guys will tell you that over the years you will see that the smiles hide something. Is it true?

I'm arriving in BKK next week. Going condo hunting on my own. Looking at Life Sukhumvit and a few others.
What's the best, cheapest way to rent a condo (avoiding agent fees etc)? Where do I start?

Is it true?

If you are going to compare things avoid ludicrous comparisons.
The rule collapses under the slightest pressure.
OK. Let's say two years in prison only - and just a assault.
Two thumbs up for your daughters new boyfriend now?
Peace. Don't judge man. We are all souls drifting in the same consciousness ✌????

That is a sign of a troubled person. Not to be made fun of.
Agreed. Probably drama but I'd be more likely compelled to help. More so that 'tattoo tukta' ????

Basing judgements on what makes a person bad or not by comparing someone who has tattoos with someone incarcerated for ten years is absolutely ridiculous.
I'm using the same premise/the same rules.
Wait. The rules suddenly don't apply when it's serious? B..b..but.. we shouldn't generalize, there are exceptions, right?

Tattoos are part of religion and culture here. So your comment reflects your ignorance of Thai and Khymer culture and your middle class western bias.
The religious and Tatoo festivals are famous and have thousands attending around Thailand
Yeah, nah. We know what type of tattoos we're talking about.
Stop holding up your finger, clearing your throat and declaring an exception. This is a thread of generalizations.

You’re not only living in the wrong decade, you’re in the wrong century.
Anyone judging someone solely on their tattoos is well... a judgemental fool.
Hmm.. nah. I'm judging their choices by their own culture, not mine. Tattoos on a girl in my culture (US), is not the sign of a bad girl - but here it is.
I don't make the rules ????????♂️

The OP is a classic "judge a book by its cover" attitude, I know some women that have Tatoos that are not bad and never been near a bar either, which is another common assumption.
I'm not saying there are no exceptions.
If I asked 'what are signs of a bad man?' And someone said 10 years of prior incarceration st a federal prison.
Would you say: 'The OP is a classic "judge a book by its cover" attitude, I know some people who are reformed offenders and some who were wrongfully convicted'
You'd be right. Some are reformed and wrongfully convicted - but just to be on the safe side, you probably don't want your daughter bringing back back Manuel 'The Massacre' Ortiz.
I'm sure the 7 tear drop tattoos were just youthful folly too.

Irrelevant. The drugs are banned in Thailand with harsh consequences if caught.
I quoted someone who says she was going to ruin people's lives. You'd have to be pretty pedantic to make an argument that MDMA ruins lives.
But your point I agree with - she <deleted> around and found out.
