Seemingly trivial detail, but still important to note - after lodging our applications last Monday, we received a reply on Thursday informing us to resubmit new photos as 'T-SHIRT NOT ACCEPTABLE' and must be taken in 'business attire'. So back to the passport photo place we go, this time in a collared shirt and my wife in a slightly formal dress. Not a big deal but a reminder that I'm still getting used to the, uh, nuances of Thai bureaucracy lol.

Pro tip, if taking the pictures in Thailand the photo shop will add dress shirt and tie in the computer after taking the picture if you ask them, they even smooth out wrinkles in your face before printing and/or emailing you the pictures.

Thank you very much for your post.

Can I clarify some things: you have LTR visa in old passport which was valid until august. Am i right?

And now you have valid old passport with old LTR stamp and new passport with new LTR stamp?

And they do not ask any sertificate for new passport or other paper?

I have a long conversation with BOI and they apparently asked somone from Immigration office. They assure me that they could not trasnfer my stamp to new passport without a paper from Embassy.

    Many thanks!

That is correct, I did not get a paper from embassy since my embassy informed me that they don’t provide this paper anymore and that immigration would be aware of that, I actually forgot about that paper until you mentioned it now, immigration did not even ask me about it.

    Hello!

Sorry for question. I in the sme situayion. I need to move my LTR visa, which I recevied in january to new passport. In BOI office they said that i need some sertificate or letter, but my embassy (which is russian in this case) refused to give me anything.

Maybe you find out how to manage this situatuion?

Also, I will appreciate any help.

    Thank you

I was also told, or rather the list of needed documents said that you need a “certificate from embassy” I was in contact with my embassy in Bangkok, (Swedish embassy) and they told me that they do not provide this document anymore and that the Thai immigration has been made aware of this and if any issues the immigration was welcome to contact the embassy.

so I’m hoping everything will go smooth next week when I go there after arriving back in Thailand on my new passport.

In case it helps others, this is just a quick update on what the correct "Admitted until" date should be for LTR e-visa holders.

Background:  I first entered Thailand using my LTR e-visa last year, and then departed and re-entered a second time over the holidays. I received two different "Admitted until" dates.  My LTR e-visa was granted on 25 Oct 2022, the first admitted until date was 9 Nov 2027 (Suvarnabhumi) and the second admitted until date was 25 Dec 2027 (Don Muang).  My passport expires before either of those dates.

The LTR unit has since explained that the correct "Admitted until" dates is the first one (9 Nov 27), or the date that I first entered Thailand using the LTR e-visa.  Apparently it doesn't matter that my passport will expire before then.

I brought my passport to the LTR unit to get the incorrect stamp fixed.  They prepared some paperwork for the One Stop Service Immigration office to make the correction.  The new correct date is highlighted in blue in the passport. The LTR unit also gave me copies of the paperwork to show airport IOs in the future.

Apparently I'm not alone in having this issue. The LTR unit is working to make sure IOs at airport entries understand what to stamp, and also trying to get other people's stamps corrected as well.

Did you need to contact boi in advance or just walked in?

Im coming in on a new passport in a couple of weeks and need to go there and transfer my LTR from my old to new pp.

  5. “Fees won’t be collected from foreigners with work permits”

So I guess that means that us who are on a work-from-Thailand-professional visa will need to help pay for uninsured peoples accidents even though we ourselves are required to hold an insurance, seeing as apparently we are not allowed to receive a work permit (even though we are supposedly allowed to work here)

  6. I received my work-from-Thailand professional visa a couple of weeks ago (applied sep 1st, inked it in on dec 14th) , when I received my visa  at BOI in Bangkok I asked about getting a work permit for a “second” job in my Thai company and was told that it would be possible.

Yesterday I sent an email to LTR asking for some more information about this and received a reply today stating that

Work-from-Thailand Professionals category cannot request for digital work permit because the main intention for this category is to work for company outside Thailand, not for company inside Thailand.”

So I wonder who is correct, the agent at BOI that I met with or the person who replied to my email.

    this also raises some questions:

1st: potential pathway to permanent residency or citizenship, because from what I’ve read there is a requirement to hold a work permit to be eligible.

    https://www.belaws.com/thailand/thailand-ltr-visa/

“Can you achieve Thai citizenship with the LTR visa?

The LTR visa is a resident visa, therefore it is possible to apply for permanent residency or citizenship. Applicants are subject to the same application requirements as other visa types.“

2nd: where can I find the law that says that I can legally work for my foreign employer on my computer holding a LTR visa when I’m in Thailand because I’m pretty sure I’ve read that you can do that with LTR, whereas previously it was said that you can not work online in Thailand without a work permit, ie. making remote work illegal?

Also some other things you need a work permit for, 5 year driving license for example, so that will also not be available for those of us who have the WFTP category.

If one reads under the “WHAT PRIVILEGES WILL BE OFFERED TO LTR VISA HOLDERS” on the LTR webpage it doesn’t say that WFTP are excluded from exemption of 4 Thai to 1 foreigner or permission to work in Thailand (digital work permit)

I'm amazed they responded so quickly based on how many people have posted they have waited weeks for BoI to respond to an inquiry submitted on the LTR website.

Did you use the "Contact" webform on the LTR website or send your inquiry to a specific BoI email address?

And maybe they responded so quick because it was not related to applying for an LTR visa and/or was from a current LTR visa holder vs someone just trying to get a LTR visa.

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised as well, the quick reply I got was when I used the form on the LTR website, I actually sent an email to [email protected] first because I thought maybe that would be quicker (that address was used when I made my appointment) but I never received a reply.

when I received my reply from the web form it was from the address [email protected], and a follow up question to that email address was replied to just as quickly.

I expect it would work just like moving a BOI SMART visa to a new passport.....see bottom of this post from BOI SMART Visa website.

And although they ask for a Certificate from the Embassy which I expect is just a letter consisting of a sentence or two saying the person has gotten a new passport please provide assistance in transferring stamps/visas to the new passport, the fact is "some" embassies no longer issue such letters and the immigration side of BOI knows this....probably knows which ones don't issue such letters any more.  The BOI rep you talked to probably does not know this and that side of the BOI would not be transferring the info to the new passport but the immigration office collocated with BOI.

Based on my personal experience in calling BOI numerous times over the last 3 weeks or so I have found quite a few reps who answered the phone just seem to be "not-so-experienced".... who are "winging-it" in providing answers or just providing scripted answers which really don't fit the situation.

And I can't see "where your new passport is issued/produced" would make one bit of difference, because I think most embassies actually have a new passport produced/printed back in the home country although you can apply for the new passport at your embassy.   Example: like U.S. passports....you can apply in person or by mail to the U.S. Embassy Bangkok, they take your application, electronically submit it to a U.S. Passport Center in the U.S., that passport center produces/generates the passport & mail it back to the U.S. Embassy who in turn remails it to your Thailland address.  And the U.S. embassy still includes a very, very short letter to Who It May Concern asking for assistance in transferring stamps/visas to the new passport.  But as mentioned some countries no longer do that....all depends on your country...and BoI Immigration will know which ones still provide or don't provide such letters.

Thank you, and you were correct, it is the same as for SMART visa.

I sent them an inquiry this morning and had a reply couple of hours later (see below).

Now I just need to have confirmation that I can enter Thailand at Suvarnabhumi immigration with my old punched passport together with the new unused and that they will accept that.

  9. Hi all,

I’m wondering if anyone have got a clue how it works if you need to move the LTR visa to a new passport (expires next year), the young chap at BOI said that I need a document from my embassy, I talked to my embassy who says that they stopped issuing these documents and told me that the main immigration office should already have informed the other offices about this fact.

They guy at BOI also said that I had to buy my new passport from my embassy in Thailand (would prefer not to as 4x price) and that then they would be able to transfer stamps at BOI (immigration), but at times he was contradicting himself, seemed somewhat confused as if he’d never had that question before.

    Tia
