  1. Hi all, I understand from this forum it is possible to extend one of my 90 day non-o entries for an additional 60 days. My visa will expire on 28 July. My question is: can I apply for the extension any time this month or does it have to be close to the expiration? Also, is there any supporting documentation I need to supply other than the obvious? Thanks in advance.
  2. Hi All, I am in the process of getting ready to apply for an extension of stay based on marriage ('marriage visa') for the first time. I understand I need to provide certified and translated copies of our Australian marriage certificate and my passport to the legalisation department of Thai foreign affairs. I also believe I need to have an apostille attached to our marriage certificate at a minimum. My question is - does my passport also require an apostille? Thanks in advance! sirponce
  3. Thanks for all the responses, very reassuring. Looks like I was overthinking it. Regards, sirponce
  4. Thanks to all who have replied! Very reassuring. I will almost certainly go down the marriage visa route in the next few months but it is good to know I have this additional option. Cheers
  5. Hi all, Hopefully a simple one - Is it possible to get consecutive non-O multi entry visas? I realise this would involve leaving Thailand and applying at an embassy abroad. If it is possible - is there any known limit to the number of consecutive non-O multis? Thanks in advance, sirponce
  6. Hi, I am intending to apply for a marriage visa in the next few months in my wife's province of Chiang Rai. We are interested in seeing more of Thailand and potentially renting in other provinces during the coming year. My question is how the above plans may impact the marriage visa. I understand I need to report my location to immigration every 90 days and I have also heard immigration do random checks at the registered place of residence. What are my options given the above? Do I need to change my address with immigration on each occasion we rent outside of Chiang Rai to avoid issues? My preference (if relevant) would be to remain on paper at my wife's Chiang Rai address where we are likely to return frequently. Thanks in advance for any replies. Regards, sirponce
  7. Thank you Sunshine Ray. That is great info. A separate but related question - where can I find the conditions of my visa and information of the type you have supplied? I mean an authoritative source - are visa conditions and related information documented in English anywhere?
  8. Thank you Joe, that's very helpful info and a very useful link.
  9. Hi All, As the title asks - I am on a 1 year non O multi entry visa. I intend to apply for a 1 year extension based on marriage at some point but may not do that in my first 3 months here (which I am currently in). I would like to know if I need to apply for a re-entry permit before I leave at the expiration of my first three month period. Also, I intend to leave at the Chiang Khong border crossing. My understanding is I can leave and return immediately (don't need to spend time in Laos). Is this correct? Thanks in advance!
  10. My understanding is that the legalisation process you describe needs to be done my embassy and Thai foreign affairs: This makes sense since the local Amphoe office won't be able to make heads or tails of our Australian marriage cert. So in short - I need to go to Bangkok to visit the Australian Embassy and the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Above grab is from https://thaivisaexpert.com/thai-wife-visa/ btw.
  11. Hi, Thanks for the replies so far. We were married in Australia and yes Lite Beer is right that I am in Chiang Rai and that is where I will apply. By the sounds of BritTim's response I will have to bite the bullet and book a ticket to Bangkok. Cheers All.
  12. Hello, I am new to these forums. I have searched for an answer to this question online and in these forums but have not been able to find anything relevant. I have just moved to Thailand with my wife and son for an extended stay and was intending to apply for the one year extension based on marriage. My wife is a Thai National as is my son (with Thai birth certificate, passport and house book entry). I am currently in the first three months of a non O multi entry visa. When searching for information on the spouse-based extension route I found there is also extension based on a Thai family member. So here is my question: Does anyone have knowledge of extending their non-immigrant O visa on the basis of having a Thai child? The process seems significantly simpler than the spouse route in so far as I would not need to visit my own embassy and the Thai foreign affairs office in Bangkok (I am in Chiang Rai) to have documents certified/translated etc. I am wondering why this option isn't more discussed (since I assume there are many in my situation) and guess there must be a catch. Also, is the extension based on family also for a 1 year period? (this may be the catch in fact). Thanks in advance for any advice/information.
