The Truth About Fake Meat
Most people believe that plant-based foods are healthier than meat. Furthermore, these foods contain chemicals and additives that you and I cannot pronounce. They contain a higher concentration of sodium than regular meat products and are not always made with pure plant-based ingredients. When you order fake meat at a restaurant, you may not be aware that it contains more than 50 chemical ingredients. Even though plant-based meats are made from plants, they can harbor pathogens. The risk of microbial food contamination is very serious for plant-based foods because they can become contaminated with pathogens through contact with contaminated sources such as animal manure, water, or other food. Plants are used as the base of plant-based meats, which include soybeans, peas, and/or wheat, but the ingredients have been heavily processed. Most meals consist of a mixture of high-protein, low-fiber, colorless powders mixed with preservatives, oils, natural or artificial colorings, gums, and seasonings. This high level of processing can have a negative impact on the nutritional quality and safety of plant-based meats.
