I'm here because I worked for a great US company and got a big promotion to transfer here for work. I still love the US, and if I had to choose between one country or the other, I would move back to the US.

Why is someone that lives in Australia obsessed with Trump and posting on a Thai expat website?

I lived in LOS for many years, only moved back because of age, have been a member of AN, formerly ( Thai visa ), since my friend recommended it to me

No, I never said nor meant to imply that only US citizens can make any meaningful comments on a US topic.

What I said was: "It's a US topic, and you seem to know nothing of the US beyond what one might see on CNN. I do not need to be wasting a lot of time responding to yet another leftist that can only regurgitate what he hears on TV."

There are plenty people that aren't from the US, that aren't morons, that know a bit about the US than one sees on CNN that can absolutely make meaningful comment on a US topic that I will happily respond to. But I have no interest in responding to uninformed people ragging on the country I love, particularly when they are too ashamed of where they come from to even say.

The country you love? How come you live in Thailand?

  3. Donald Trump has abruptly terminated all trade talks with Canada over the country’s plan to roll out a digital services tax on US tech companies – a move he described as a “direct and blatant attack” on the US.

The President made the announcement in a post on Truth Social, declaring he was cutting off talks with the US’ northern neighbour “effectively immediately,” despite the two countries working to negotiate a trade deal by mid-July.

“We have just been informed that Canada, a very difficult Country to TRADE with, including the fact that they have charged our Farmers as much as 400% Tariffs, for years, on Dairy Products, has just announced that they are putting a Digital Services Tax on our American Technology Companies, which is a direct and blatant attack on our Country,” he wrote in the post.

“Based on this egregious Tax, we are hereby terminating ALL discussions on Trade with Canada, effective immediately.”

Mr Trump added that the US would inform Canada within the next seven days on the “tariff that they will be paying to do business with the United States of America”.

Canada’s digital services tax was enacted last year and forecast to bring in Can$5.9 billion (US$4.2 billion) over five years.

While the measure is not new, US service providers will be “on the hook for a multi-billion dollar payment in Canada” come June 30, according to the Computer & Communications Industry Association.

The three per cent tax applies to large or multinational companies such as Alphabet, Amazon and Meta which provide digital services to Canadians. Washington has previously requested dispute settlement talks over the matter.

The President later spoke of the decision to end talks in the Oval Office, calling Canada “foolish” for implementing the tax.

“We have all the cards. We have every single one,” he told reporters. “We don’t want to do anything bad, but they have, economically – we have such power over Canada.”

Mr Trump said he’s “rather not” use the power over Canada, but said the country “did something with our tech companies today, trying to copy Europe.”

“It’s not going to work out well for Canada,” he added. “They were foolish to do it. So I said, we’re going to stop all negotiations with Canada right now until they straighten out their act.”

Mr Trump has imposed steep levies on imports of steel, aluminium and autos.

Last week, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Ottawa will adjust its 25 per cent counter tariffs on US steel and aluminium, in response to a doubling of US levies on the metals to 50 per cent, if a bilateral trade deal was not reached in 30 days.

“We will continue to conduct these complex negotiations in the best interest of Canadians,” Mr Carney briefly told reporters earlier today, adding that he had not spoken to Mr Trump.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC that Washington had hoped Mr Carney’s government would halt the tax “as a sign of goodwill.”

He now expects US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to start a probe to determine the harm stemming from Canada’s digital tax.

  4. Well, my best mate passed away while I was in Thailand. He was 76, so I guess I'm next.  Had a bad accident yesterday, just got away with a few bruises, first accident in her fault in 20 years

My dad had an above genius level. He was a whizz at everything he did, from building his own Ham radio from scratch, to old school photography, magic and most things electronic. He always wanted me to try things he was into but the only things I liked that he did was hunting and fishing, yet we never hunted together. There are many facets of an IQ and yes, tests don't show all of it.

My ex wife and ex girlfriend, who I had children with, both had a 90 IQ and all my children from them are very smart, so it obviously came from my dad's side. Their school tests, which aren't an accurate judge, as children much of the time don't care about those tests and only want to get them over with, still showed them to have an above average score. I can see some of their weaknesses and strengths, like all people who are intelligent. My son is smart in some things, graduated college and has a pilot's license, but he lacks in others. Same for my daughters. A lot goes into the intricacies of the brain, and we don't use but a fraction of it so who knows what some can do if they put their mind to it. Some very smart people don't succeed like you pointed out, and some who aren't too bright end up rich.

    Talking about Trump?
