How do you get to the Airport link ?.... You still need a taxi, right ? or can walk?

So most people still need a taxi which makes the above comment somewhat moot.

From Thonglor, its quicker to get to the airport than to the Makkassan Station...

Unless someone lives within 5mins walk of Makkassan station and has no baggage the Airport Rail link offers no convenience or time saving.

    We would take the MRT.

We travel light and it's only a few stops but for 200b pax 2 a cab saves dragging the bags about.

Train every 15 mins. Not long. Try getting a taxi meter. That can take 15 mins or more.

Usually my wife and myself book a taxi from HuayKwang. No wait.

If alone I'd probably do the ARL.

It's not always 15. Sometimes 20 it's just whatever. I always seem to arrive a minute or two after the train leaves so it's always 15 minutes.

I used to work out at Hua Mark and trip out in early morning fine. Trip back was dire even at 3-4pm.

  3. The thing about the ARL is that you can wait up to fifteen minutes and perhaps more to get on the bloody thing. When it was at it's highpoint pre covid it was far too crowded.

I think they dropped the two trains - one was local. They should bring it back.

One local train stopping at Lat Krabang. And another airport train Phaya Thai - Makkassan - Airport.

A solution in search of a problem.

Costs money, prone to break, carry clutter about, probably less than seamless experience.

Yeah, thanks I don't need _______ that badly.

Cash is simple compared to the systems they have in place here, but with Applepay I’ve not needed to take my wallet out for like weeks on end. Fantastic system esp when you have facial recognition enabled. It was a major drag coming back here and seeing they hadn’t adopted it yet.
Get yourself a smartphone bro, they are easy. ????

I left the Apple ecosystem when the IIci was replaced by the Quadra. The corporation would be dead were not for the phone. Always underpowered and overpriced.

Irony, Apple a cheerleader for most closed OS, payment system and control of DRM in the tech sphere. Only PayPal I dislike more.

It's not about being a Luddite but rather about safeguarding ones privacy which apparently you have little to none left.

And what if that small point about using an overseas payment for Thai transactions?

Thailand has digital transactions. Digital money is something else entirely. I'm certain that digital money will have entirely differing issuing requirements and as it's been stated before digital money - you can be cut from the system and disallowed to spend and potentially earn money. Digital money can be turned off.

  6. No, this has been a concern for years. It was quite easy to see the creeping inflation which picked up pace after 2010. Full blown concern after the covid money for the FSA.

So many economic indicators said / say don't inject money into the economy. But that they did. They had no choice, no other way to pay for pensions and prop up what's left of middle class lifestyle.

The US Ukraine money is highly suspect. The student loans for people that studied worthless majors and often didn't even finish. The Woke. That's a massive inflationary hit for US.

This is going to end very badly.

These two sentences are apparently contradictory. You deny there was a connection but then admit there was a price to be paid to be "free". Free from what, exactly? Free from unrestricted movement which the economy depends upon.

Both positions can be held at once. Not only that they are not necessarily diametrically opposed to one another. Not are they mutually exclusive. It's not necessarily a fine point either. YOU find them at odds.

An amazing statement. But why "After that no idea"? Please let me me know why you had an idea for up to 2 years and then suddenly not anymore.

Because the Fed HAD to tighten. This drove up interest rates world over. THB got a huge bump and then by last meeting not only didn't get a bump with +. 75 interest rate for USD the THB has actually sank to under 36.

Metals ARE up which means dollar is down but 2.75b!

Why I've totally no clue is Fed meeting again. Powell has stated rates to positive for next six months. Yet in anticipation of this we see a weak dollar.

Many economists now talk of a tiny rate hike or pause bc the economy is sucking. Powell jawboned only full steam ahead in last meeting.

What's your analysis in the next six months?

They were entitled to proceed with brexit after the vote. I believe it remains the case that there was a huge amount of foreign influence and misinformation involved in achieving that narrow majority. Now it's buyer remorse.

I do not think the downturn is directly related.

Would not bother trying to 2nd guess the exchange rate. If you both like the condo, location and you can find a price both you and the seller are happy with just get it done.

The exchange rate might go up and might go down... 2nd guessing it or waiting for it to reach a certain amount just seems a waste of time.

You like it, want to stay there-- the amount you save in one months rent essentially would account for any swing in exchange.

    Just get it bought.

Understand the perspective but the THB was down to 38 now < I'm not in a buying mood. 2b on 100k USD is a bit more than a month's rent.

Saw the place, liked it. Made an offer, but it's all contingent on the exchange assuming it's even accepted. I'll go a bit higher but not much. Lots of hidden work

While good condos at decent prices are few and far between it's still not such an epic deal that I'm rushing into it.

I feel both the Thai economy and housing market is weakening not the opposite. USD should strengthen over next 12-18-24; months. After that no idea.
