Adding flavor concentrates to cannabis oil?
Hokeus replied to Hokeus's topic in Thailand Cannabis Forum
UPDATE: I just mixed up a new 10 ML batch of the oil by adding both the banana and the vanilla flavor extracts I mentioned earlier. Here are the two extracts I'm using: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/29-mccormick-banana-flavor-29-ml-i2848411769-s10393012251.html https://www.lazada.co.th/products/29-mccormick-pure-vanilla-extract-29-ml-i2848863947-s10394162182.html I must say, I'm really pleased with the result. One can definitely still taste the cannabis flavor, which is what I wanted, but you also have that creamy accent from the vanilla and the tanginess and smell from the banana. After you swallow it, the slight aftertaste of the vanilla comes out too in a good way. Since my oil has a slightly naturally burnt flavor from the infusion process, I would say that, now that it has some creamy and tangy flavors added into the mix, that the slightly burnt flavor adds to it further by giving it a bit of a woodsy accent on top. It almost tastes a bit like an aperitif. It seems like a really good mix. A lot better than I had expected. There is no sweetness to it either because no sugar has been added, which is great, as I didn't want to end up with something that tastes at all like a confection. I ended up putting in a total of 16 Drops of Banana and 19 Drops of Vanilla into 10 ML of oil. So that's 35 drops total. Right around 0.875 ML of flavoring. So that's about 8.75% of added flavor. One might wonder why I'm counting the drops so carefully, but these are extract concentrates that are very strong. So nearly every drop counts. I originally started by adding equal amounts of the banana and vanilla (16 drops each), but the banana flavor seemed a bit stronger than the vanilla, even though I had added equal amounts of the two. But since I wanted to taste an equal amount of each flavoring, I added 3 more drops of the vanilla and that's just about perfect now. The flavors I added are definitely still just an enhancement that changes the flavor profile a bit and I don't think they are something that anyone would find to be too strong or unappealing. And it certainly makes the flavor of the oil more palatable if you want to swish it around in your mouth and hold it under your tongue for one minute before swallowing it for that added sublingual absorption effect. One can also play around with the ratios a bit more to their liking, but I would say that I feel like I've got it nearly just right now. Next batch I might try using 14 Drops Banana and 18 Drops Vanilla and see how that works, but (at this point) it probably won't make that much difference. And any small tweaks to the mixture I'm using now and I'm probably just splitting hairs. But a few less drops total would drop the total amount of added flavor down to 8%, which is worth trying. In conclusion, you can almost call this an edible in it's own right rather than it just being a typical cannabis infused oil. If anyone else is a cannabis oil user, and decides to experiment with these two flavors, then I would be very interested to hear about your own personal results too. -
Adding flavor concentrates to cannabis oil?

I've now done a bit more experimenting with flavoring. I added 4 drops each of both vanilla and banana flavor concentrates to 2.5 ML of the cannabis oil. The overall added flavoring is still a bit faint, but I like it. I wanted something subtle and I think this could be a winner. And because it's subtle, it's not disruptive to the taste, but just enough to take the strong cannabis flavor edge off it. So that's a total of 8 drops I added to 2.5 ML. That would correspond to 32 drops to a 10ML bottle of oil. Using my standard glass dropper, I normally get about 20 drops from 0.5 ML of liquid. So that would equate to adding about .75 ML of flavoring to 10 ML of oil. So I'll take the plunge and make up a 10 ML batch using that ratio totaling .75 ML of flavor concentrates to a 10 ML bottle of oil. Although I haven't done any tests yet with the mint flavoring, I decided that I'm not going to do so for now. I'm not really sure that mint flavor will mix well with cannabis flavor. But I do think vanilla and banana are good choices which can help to accent a typical cannabis flavor. I've also come up with half a dozen possible names for the concoction: Banana Vanilla Kush Vanilla Gorilla Creamy Banana Banana Monkey Funky Banana Cream Banana Split Ive also experimented by putting the plain cannabis oil on top of a piece of chocolate. That works nicely too. A good way of making an instant edible. -

Sorry for the confusion and my lack of clarity. I was only referring to cannabis oils that would be swallowed and ingested. The reference to extract concentrates was in regards to the vanilla and mint extracts which are flavoring concentrates. -

This topic is about adding flavorings to edible cannabis oils after the infusion process has been completed and in order to adjust the flavor profile of the finished oil. Presumably the points you raised would only be a concern when adding flavorings to the oil during the heating and oil infusion processes. If you add vanilla or mint to the cannabis oil after the oil infusion process has been completed, and the oil has been cooled down already, then it seems there is no risk of what you are suggesting. -

Thank you. I added 4 drops of the vanilla to about 2.5 ML of oil as an experiment (I didn't want to possibly waste too much of the oil), but I didn't really taste anything different from adding that amount. I haven't gone any further with it yet, but probably it needs a bit more vanilla to make the flavor change noticeable. Did you happen to get a feel for the correct ratios yet for getting a nice flavor blend without overdoing it on the vanilla? A while ago I had added much more vanilla than that to a 10 ML bottle of oil, which ended up being too much vanilla. And then I ended up throwing it out. So I don't want to go down that road again. I've got a new and very potent batch of oil now, but it has a very strong cannabis taste because of the high potency, which also has a bit of a mild, burnt flavor to it. So I'm really interested to blend it with another complimentary flavor if I can. I can deal with the natural flavor myself no problem, but I think some of my friends that I may share it with might find the oil flavor more palatable with some added flavoring. -

Has anyone ever added any flavor extracts to cannabis oil after the infusion process has been completed? I'm referring to extract concentrates like vanilla or mint? There are also artificial flavor concentrates available that sound interesting such as banana. They are all available under the McCormick brand in their shop on Lazada. If anyone has any experience with adding these flavorings to cannabis oil then please let me know your thoughts and experiences please.

I think what can happen is that, in the heat of the moment, people sometimes snap and go over the top. You see it in real life all the time too. And then people need to be reeled back in when it happens. And when it happens their posts should just be deleted. I think after having their posts removed they will get the picture and not do it again. Others consistently take things too far and need to be stopped from posting completely. I have moderated a number of online communities myself and have taken down posts and accounts for a lot less than what is permitted to go on here. Anyway, it is what it is, it is often the nature of online communities and, as I said in my previous post, nobody should take any of this stuff personally or too seriously. In regards to Bob, I doubt it was any one post that caused Bob to leave. I think he left for various reasons. Possibly one being that he seemed so dissatisfied with life, and wasn't finding an audience that wanted to bash things with him or even agreed at all. So maybe he just had enough of being around posters who didn't share his sentiment. Maybe he also felt AN was adding to his negative feelings and best to just cut it all off. He was recently talking a lot about needing to take a new direction. So it wouldn't surprise me. But maybe he will be back after he has had some time to reflect. And, as I said earlier, I would more than welcome him back. Hopefully he will read some of these positive posts and understand that nobody really disliked him and that we would like to see him back if that is what he wants at some point. I already miss his dark humor! I am speaking for myself of course, but presumably many others feel the same. 👍🏼

I just want to say that if Bob wants to come back and start posting again at some point, either under his same account pseudonym, or a new one, he is more than welcome by me. I enjoyed all of his posts for what they were and I didn't take any of them seriously or personally. I also assume nearly everyone else feels the same. Nobody truly disliked Bob or wished him any ill feelings. He was providing great entertainment for anyone who cared to be a part of it. And as fantastical, fictional, and of a trolling nature as his posts were, I think we all enjoyed the irony and sarcasm in them. Bob also dished out a lot of anger and distaste towards many people on the forum and pretty much everyone and everything else in the world for that matter. But that was the nature his online character that he created. He also used an avatar of Brick Top, a character from the movie Snatch who was a murderous London gangster. So Bob set the stage for rough and tough banter through both his avatar and the nature of his posts. And what he got back from others was merely the same. But I can say that anything I posted that seemed negative towards Bob was only mirroring the sort of dark humor that he was dishing out. Many of his posts also seemed insulting and hurtful towards other members, thus it makes no sense for him to suddenly point fingers at others and claim he's suddenly the target of an online conspiracy. He also started this thread to claim he was being stalked. Really? How? He intentionally posted unwarranted negative topics everyday in order to trigger people and to stimulate blowback and a surge of online banter. Then suddenly he's claiming he's a victim of negative feelings. But if you dish it out to begin with then you got to be able to take it. And that's what Bob did. He started it, but then didn't seem to like the negative sounding posts that came back. But it's just horses for courses. So, Bob, if you want to, please come back whenever you like. If you continue to act the same you will likely continue to get more of the same in return though. But if you change your tune then the way that people respond to you will also change. Bob, either way, wishing you all the best and hoping you find more joy and happiness in your future, whether that be here or anywhere else in the world. Stay well and stay great.

Easiest thing: Never log in again. That would be too simple and not mellow dramatic enough for bob the forever whinger.
