We had and have the opportunity to settle in Laos as my Lao wife has a house there, however I live and work in the UK as a painter. We met through friends in Lao. Travelling back and forth was possible, in the end it was better and financially more viable including cost savings from uk government to continue working here but my wife and her kids joining me. Fast forward 2 years and my wife and I work jointly in a partnership both earning identical market value salaries as painters. We each keep our own money and split the bills. Our future retirement will be in Laos and Thailand through our private pension contributions. We hope to have £150k-£200k each. We both work together as a team quite often in separate rooms giving each other independence. I’ve taught her to be self sufficient, a professional painter and a trader in stocks and shares. The future looks very bright and promising together in our blended family.

I gave up 10 years ago after coughing up blood on a bender one night, had 1-2 glasses of wine since then. Now only the weed for me!

Sad to say after 46 years on this planet I only just learned of this today. Never knew there was a direct link,🤷‍♂️fortunately I gave up alcohol after the puking up blood episode 10 years ago, only smoke the weed now as that’s not linked to any cancers 🫣

My friend went to live in Thailand a few years back, he took with him about $12,000 he can speak Thai not fluent but mediocre, he is friends with a director of a school, he got an education visa to start then switched to a work permit in country but only after the director falsifying his degree in teaching which he doesn’t have and is totally made up. I think he was earning approximately $750 a month, he doesn’t eat Thai food only western, despite all this he managed to survive but he had to leave after 9 months as he became an alcoholic and ran out of money, having spent about $20,000 😅

You need to have a bit of self respect! Grow a pair! You are in the land of women plentiful and you complain about a woman cheating on you!? You could walk round the corner to the nearest atm and meet half a dozen women on the way! Seriously Buck up and move on!

We would have to travel through Thailand to Laos then return to get our flight home from BKK, I would obv now consider China or Vietnam to fly through. We dip across the borders quite a lot visiting markets for the day. It’s a much greater impact for tourists

We are a family of 5 flying in and out, Thailand already looks expensive now, on top of this it will be an additional 3000 baht for tourist tax. As well as high landing fees, dual pricing, we’ll have to find another way.

I dated a number of girls in phuket mostly from dating websites, in phuket especially the girls were insistent on a retainer between 10,000-20,000 a month. One girl I got on well with, however when she asked for money she insisted if I didn’t pay she would find another guy that would pay as it is expected in phuket. I said you have your own shop selling clothes why do you need my money, I said I can lend you 40,000 to buy extra stock and you can return the money to me amd take the profits for yourself. She debated then discussed with my dad’s wife about it. She said sorry I’m going to find a guy that will send a retainer each month. I wished her well, sent her on her way. She found another guy and sent me pictures of her being happy with her new retainer, it lasted a few months then She was back to the drawing board. Another friend that’s a girl I knew, has a boyfriend we were only friends, known her a few years, she got in touch while I was in Blighty asking to borrow her 500B as she had run out of food and was waiting for money from her man to arrive she has a job in a bar, knowing full well she earns a decent amount each month. No need to ask some guy 5000 miles away for 500b especially knowing that she won’t return it. Girls in phuket are generally on retainer that’s been my experience so far. I left Thailand and went to Laos, found a lovely girl who never once asked for money. We are now married living in the Uk with 4 children together.

Thai airways is at number 33 on skytrax top 100 awards, where did they get placed in the top 10 from, 2023 they were number 40
