She is actually 71. Yes, she is looking at a place where she will be less taxed than her home country. But done legally. I agree investing here, especially now, doesn't make much sense. Her son really likes Thailand. I guess he is the motivational factor. Anyway, she seems to just want to send the money and have the son manage her investment. This is a massive mess up from Elite. You got approved, paid, and now waiting in limbo while your permit of stay expires soon. I would personally make a big deal. I understand why you don't, you still want your visa and probably don't want to start on the wrong foot with them. Hope it gets resolved soon.

It definitely can. But as you know, things can go wrong. One crash and the company's reputation goes down just like that. It's just a bold and risky investment in my eyes.
