Actually, I wonder if the British man is 100% sure that the Russian man called him a ni**er or if the word was “negr”, which is the word used in many Slavic languages to describe and refer to black people. In Russian the word “negr” does not have the same negative connotation as the word ni**er has in English. In my experiences, most Russian tourists are not at all fluent in English, and hence it’s likely the word used was in fact “negr”. One could also imagine that people often tend to hear what they want to hear. I also doubt that an average British guy has any Russian language skills to be able to understand a subtle difference of this kind…
