  1. Hi(gh) all, thanks for some good advice! Gargamon, thanks for a pic of a tried + tested brand. I will look out for it. Thanks, but couldn't you set your iPhone to upload JPGs, not HEICs - can't see them online, can't open them offline (on Android, Windows).
  2. Hello, sorry, newbie questions here. I can only consume cookies - no smoking or oils or butter, they are not an option. How many milligrams of THC in a cookie are useful for a single dose for a healthy adult? Which product? I'd love a slight dizziness or elation, but not solid hammeredness. (As for alcohol, I can take a relatively big amount compared to co-imbibers, before I feel seriously affected. But I don't know about cannabis cookies within me.) Is there a certain dispensary in Jomtien (preferred) or Pattaya that you recommend? It's okay to be more expensive if it is safe, knowledgeable and convenient. I just want to buy there - consumption would be on beach or balcony. It's only about a small one-off test amount, so i don't want to travel far or search online for better prices. It’s just a first test. Thanks! == Above are the important questions. Below just an irrelevant personal backstory. == In late 2022 I entered this dispensary in Jomtien (GrandDaddy House (ha!) on Phratamnak 5 near beach, here on Google Maps, 2 staff visible😞 They suggested as a newbie I should buy this: The six very small, dark cookies have a total of 20x6=120 milligrams or 400 milligrams, depending on which side of the package you trust (if any). The dispensary ladies advised me that as a newbie I should consume one or two of those cookies at a time (meaning 20 or forty milligram THC, assumed the sticker on the sachet is correct). I had one, then a second cookie on a quiet part of beach around sunset and felt nothing. Later I walked away without feeling anything unusual. Later on another night on my balcony I absentmindedly by accident ate four of those cookies in a row. I still didn't notice anything special; later I went to bed and had a regular sleep (the corona vaccination drugged me nicer). If you know anything about this THC cookie brand or this dispensary, i’d be interested, but i’d be even more interested in recommendations for other, better options.
  3. Actually later on Google Maps i read a Thai's (?) review about the place, translated by the system into my local language, and here translated by me to English: "Coffee that you can smell and try before buying. You can try, taste and smell almost everything."
  4. George Albert, Norfolk, Impulse and No Display Name, thanks for oodles of good advice!
  5. Hello, how far south does the Baht Bus travel on Jomtien’s Beach Road – either always or with luck? My destinations would be Drifters Beach CafΓ© and Glass House on Soi Na Jomtien 8 and Soi Na Jomtien 10. Roughly 7 km south of Jomtien soi 1 is Jomtien soi 19 (just after Just Burgers) further south after that is Soi Na Jomtien 2 (just before Pupen Seafood). Then the beach road turns inland a bit to Na Jomtien 6. And south of that are venues I might like to reach: Drifters Beach CafΓ© and Glass House on Soi Na Jomtien 8 and Soi Na Jomtien 10. Could I reach those place with songthaeaow? Could I go back north towards "downtown Jomtien" from there at say 10 or 12 pm by Baht Bus? I don't mind a bit of walk (or is that most disagreable there?). How far south does the Baht Bus travel reliably? Is there a chance they kick me out maybe near Jomtien soi 15 if I am the only customer going south? (I won't fight.) I believe to remember it’s no problem reaching Jomtien soi 12. Can I pay a modest fee to go more (not a full private trip for 100s of Baht)? Fully aware that I could use Bolt or Grab taxis as well. Thanks!
  6. Thanks, Caldera. Indeed i didn't realize that even after the "online extension" you still have to visit an office... how useful. Then it's clear i will go straight to a provincial office and do the whole procedure there.
  7. Thanks Tim for Immigration advice. In Tak province, i'll explore the valleys!
  8. Sam, thanks for interesting additions! By "in-house brews" I understand you mean beer and not coffee, right? It's an interesting system for sure, and I'd love it for coffee too.
  9. Hello, i come to Thailand with a pre-bought 2-months-TR visa (single entry, already granted, EU passport). In-country i want to extend for another 30 days at a local immigration, online or by visa-run In the last two weeks of those 2 months I will be in provincial capitals and have booked regular mid-range hotels. The hotels should be able to print the TM-30 form to prove my current accommodation to local Immigration. I will have car and bicycle avaible to get to Immigration. Before covid, I did this 1-month-extension several times already, always upcountry, with funny moments and no stress. Link: official list of Thai Immigration bureaus So I wanted to ask you which place you recommend for extending, regarding timing and local habits: day 45 of trip (around New Year): Uttaradit Immigration day 50: Tak Immigration (shortly after New Year) day 55: Mae Sot (seems no Imm. bureau there) Mae Sot border run (open?) (walk or bicycle) Online at https://thaiextension.vfsevisa.com/ (wary of online, do you have experience with that special EXTENSION site which seems to be private, but officially touted?) Extending 1 month upcountry – still possible? Just now I read on a bilingual Thaiembassy.org site that you can NOT get 1-month-extensions at Immigration upcountry, only in Bkk (no-no) or online? There they do NOT mention getting 30 days extensions at provincial Immigration offices (like those mentioned above) at https://thaiextension.vfsevisa.com/ Thanks!
  10. Hello, on a tourist trip to the provinces i might want to use local trains for 30 or 50 kms as part of day trips – and I would have a bicycle with me for the day (no heavy luggage). (I don't mean long distance trains.) So I wanted to ask you: How to use local trains for a tourist (get ticket, find timings, find routes and stations)? Can I carry a bicycle on the local train (special compartments, extra bicycle ticket, only some trains allowed)? Is it crowded sometimes? Routes or stations I might use: Thaphan Hin – Phichit or vv. Thaphan Hin – Nakhon Sawan (or part of it) Ayutthaya Phetchaburi town Prachuap Khiri Khan town Get timings and stations I speak tourist Thai, but can't read it. Years ago I saw time tables written on waiting room walls – all in Thai. Google Maps shows routes, stations and timings. Is that the best source if one doesn't read Thai? How to acquire ticket Can I simply buy the ticket inside the train from the conductor? Also for the bicycle? Or MUST I get the ticket before boarding at the train station? Can I get the ticket online? (Tourist here, no more than 1 – 4 train trips totally, no Thai bank account.) Bicycle on local train Do I need an extra ticket for the bicycle? Are there special bicycle/luggage compartments? May only some, but not all trains on a given route accept bicycles? Thanks for your advice!
  11. Hello, as a tourist with an economy rental car (like a Toyota Yaris) i will among others drive these routes i'd like your advice about: Jomtien – Phetchaburi town Amphawa (Samut Songkhram) – Ayutthaya City (island) I had rental cars in Thailand several times before, but not on these routes. Valid for both trips: traveling on mid-day workdays no idea about smartly using tollways; but on previous holidays paid some tolls just cash – any better way to handle that for a tourist? Not sure if more tollways will follow north of Ayutthaya I like very smooth rolling most, even if it costs more highway fees and offers less roadside eyecandy No sightseeing from driver's seat wanted – smooth stressfree procedure is all that matters But interested in stops: local attractions (not Bang Pa-In) or atmospheric local eateries (up to 6 kms off) (not highway-side eateries, even if good) Will be using Google Maps GPS if you don't warn me off against it Your take? Below are the routes that Google Maps suggests for daytime trips; instinctively I would avoid the city center – correctly? Your take? Thank you!
  12. J and Jingthing, thanks for 2 very interesting ideas, both quite to my taste! Open for more recommendations. Forgot to mention above that i have a knack for good pizza and tom kha gai.
  13. Hello, back to Jomtien + Pattaya as a tourist after 1 year. I wanted to ask you what's new in Jomtien + Pattaya in these categories: live music, esp. Thai style live music, not plain rock restaurants, esp. Thai and Italian, not grill, not posh, not in heavy tourist areas like Walking Street or Soi Buakhao coffee shops standing out for ambience or quality attractions natural, historical transport with Bolt + Grab + Baht Bus traditional massage I don't need updates about girlie bars, agogos, soapy massage, fine dining, discos, gin tonic. About live music: I very much like Thai live music restaurants like Kon La Fun, Sin Lapin Isaan. From Google Maps I understand they are still operational? Any others come to your mind? Occasionally I like to watch live bands on Walking Street in Stones House, Candy Shop, Muzzik CafΓ© (but not live rock in girlie bars). And it seems that lukthung place Zac (?) at the very NE start of Walking Street ((roughly opposite Stones House)) has still not come back. - Also Samran Pub on Pattaya 3rd Rd is no more? – And in the Jomtien hinterlands, there was the Thai music hall Ban Morlam (roughly near Rom Pho CafΓ©, Rom Pho Barbecue Buffet, inland from Rom Pho entertainment complex), but it also seems gone forever? Thanks for all updates!
  14. Luckyman, Streetcowboy and Bobfish, thanks for more detailed advice!
  15. Thanks for commenting! So far i only had mechanical disc brakes or the very old style ("block brakes") and didn't find it tiresome. (I don't cycle super fast or steep downhill usually.) I only worry about mechanical disc brakes getting easily distorted when heaving into the car's back and then getting noisy/slowing while riding the bike.
  16. Hello, next month i (experienced tourist in TH) want to buy an 29", 8000 THB, mountain bike (MTB) in TH and carry it by rental car around central Thailand for lots of day trips out of provincial mid-range hotels for hopefully 2 months of touristing. I did this in the previous winter and it was great for me. So here I don't need general travel planning advice, just specifics as mentioned. I would like to bring some special spare parts from the west, only I am not sure if they will fit. Thus my questions: 1) Typical tyre size: 29x1,75? I might want to bring - special "protective" tyres - replacement tubes (even if available in TH). The two mountain bike models I'm eying currently (below) have 29x1,75 and 29x2,10 respectively. 2) Typical valve: Presta/Sclaverand/French – OR – Schrader/car valve? I want to bring a small pump. Last time in TH I didn't manage to find a decent SMALL pump in provincial Thailand, only huge stand-pumps. I believe my last TH bicycle had a Schrader valve. Photos of valve types mentioned, on bicycling.com == That above was the important part. Thanks for an informed reply! == About dealer and hydraulic disc brakes I want to buy from an on the ground bicycle dealer that I know and trust. I had his 8000 THB 29" Zeus Maxiumus MTB last winter, and it worked well. For this time, he offered me 2 different bicycles by LINE-messenger (before I walk into his shop next month) both for around 8000 THB. But his English is not good. I don't write Thai, it is difficult; also I don't trust Google Translate especially with technical questions. Face to face we do get along well with spoken Thai/spoken English. It seems his bicycle offers are available 1000THB cheaper on shopee, Lazada etc., but I don't care, I will buy in that shop. He offered me: Offer 1: Zeus Maximus 29" ER, 8000 It has 29x1,75 tyres (preferred over 29x2,10), hydraulic disk brakes (not wanted), double-layered rims (good!) Full description in Thai on shopee (Google site translation doesn't work in my browser, I don't see company website in EN) Offer 2: Java Terra 29" 21speeds Unlike the Zeus Maximus above, it does have Shimano parts (important or not?) and "mechanical disc brake" (good!). I don't see if it has the desired double-layer rims (or is that standard anyway?). It has 29x2,10 tyres (too fat for me) – if I bring my own "protective tyres" of 29x1,75 – would they fit? Or would even smaller ones fit (rim wideness not specified) Full description in Thai+English on shopee (Google site translation doesn't work in my browser, I don't see company website in EN) Hydraulic disc brake ("oil break", ) standard? The mentioned Zeus Maximus 29" ER prides hydraulic brakes. But I don't want them. The Java bicycle is mentioned with "bicycle Mechanical Disc brake" – better. I will take the bicycle's front wheel off several times a week to get it into the car between hotels. I understand with hydraulic brakes there's a danger of a "blocked" brake, if you take the wheel off and don't keep brake things apart with some small thingy. But I would either - forget to apply the thingy and/or - loose the dedicated thingy (even if you could also use some non-specific thingy) Thanks again!
