Is is common to have bags searched on these traffic checkpoints? I only recently began driving scooters in Thailand, and has yet to experience these encounters. Let's say you are a middel aged male, well dressed and clean shaven, wears a helmet and have a drivers license. It's not that I would have anything illegal with me, just want to get a feel for what to expect. Also, If someone were to be caught with 1-5 grams of dried mushrooms, what rection could one realistically expect? A stiff fine, or is it straight to jail?

Holy moly, that's what I call a bust! Seizures of this magnitude will for sure rustle some feathers. People are gonna be out of a lot of product, organizations gonna be in total chaos blaming each others, fingers(and guns) will be pointed. All in all I think I will rate this operation 8 on a scale of 10. Congratulations to Thailand and Royal Thai Police for clearing this drugs from their lovely society.

That is a really small amount. I hate to judge before all the fact are on the table, but this looks like a token arrest. Better to spent resources on overstayers and maniacs. Points deducted from Thai police in this episode *sadface*

You don't wai the shop assistant, bellhop or the person guarding the entrance to the subway station It is inappropriate and it makes them uncomfortable, and we know how Thais feel about that. My language teacher in BKK told us how she cringed when she saw tourists giving out wais to the people sweeping the streets outside Central World. It's good to want to show respect in Thailand, but a smile and a nod goes a long way.

If in a pinch in Bangkok, go to Platinum shopping mall's 4. floor. You get 11 for a 1000Tbh, "American" sizes. It's not super quality, but it get you going until you find your way around the gigantic shopping malls along Sukhumvit road. It's not fun walking around Bangkok with dubious underwear because your colleagues(who already has a female tour guide waiting over there) told you to not pack anything because you can get everything for cheap when you arrive in Thailand. This is mostly an advice to newcomers in Thailand.
