  1. On the UK Thai Embassy website all of the long term visas seemed to have some health insurance requirement? Maybe it's a post Covid thing. What "age" are you suggesting when talking about too old to get insurance. I suppose that's a thing at some point.
  2. Is that per week (AirBnB) or month (rental)?
  3. The good old days of the UK housing market ! What's GFC ?
  4. Thanks. How is it possible to squeeze nearly two years out of the O visa? I thought the O visa was just available single entry.
  5. They do. So which one are long term expats usually on, just O?
  6. What period was your buy and sell and which city? BKK condo prices seem to depreciate like cars !
  7. The OA visa with 800K in the bank does seem the most practical. Do many expats go for the OX visa (5+5 year) with a 3MN parked in the bank requirement?
  8. I don't understand why there is so much discussion on renewing the annual extension to stay on AN if it's in fact straight forward. Is that extension also called PS2. I'm still trying to decide whether I want to start on a retirement visa or some other visa (education, for example).
  9. How much does the agent charge usually?
  10. No, I don't know anything about Thai visa laws ! As explained to Brian, reading on here about the visa extension process made me think there is uncertainty about renewals etc. But judging from your comment it's better than it used to be. I don't know what the new tax law is that some are referring to.
  11. I meant that I find the Thai visa system complicated and that there are so many hoops to go through to maintain status. For example if one were to do a visa run and for some reason a border official rejected - that's an uncertainty for me. I'm not yet expat so haven't been through it yet.
  12. What's your thinking on not working for a younger person...because at 72 you're in it for the long haul? I'm 60 but I guess one can switch countries at any age, and at least for Brits might have to for health reasons (NHS).
  13. What do folks retiring in Thailand typically do with their home in their home country. Sell? Rent out? Keep vacant? Obviously this is a "how long is a piece of string" question, and everyone's situation is different. But given the uncertainty of the Thai visa system, it seems that it's fairly necessary to maintain a home country home too ! Any thoughts or opinions welcome...
  14. Yes, that's starting to sound like the way to go, because the aim is about 4 months. Thanks for your many answers.
  15. Thanks again, Licorice. Just reading the Thai Embassy London website and it seems that for an METV you need to show: - a letter from your employer/business registration - £5000 bank balance for six months Is that normal just for a tourist visa ??
  16. So is the idea: 60 day entry +30 extension 60 day entry +30 extension = 6 months A few days prior to end of validity, exit & re-enter with 60 days + 30 extension ? Are the extensions applied for at entry or towards the end of the 60 day period?
  17. Who knows, OP (74) might be back. I've been trying to use this Aseanow site (as opposed to the old ThaiVisa) on my laptop and the pop up ads almost make it un-useable ! Switched to my mobile and it's better. I don't think it's a wasted thread as there are others (like myself) that can benefit from the information posted.
  18. Thanks. I don't see how you could stay 9 months? Using the 60-day stay 3 times (assuming you arrive shortly after issue) makes 6 months, and then a 30 day extension on the final 60 makes it 7 months?
  19. Thanks for the reply. Yes, the idea is a (roughly) 60 day stay followed by another 60 days so slightly over 4 months. Isn't that what an METV will permit as long as its withing the 6 month validity ? Do you happen to know if the 6 month validity is from the date of issue or from the date of entering Thailand ? I'd really like to avoid applying for extensions if I can.
  20. I've read online that there is a 6 month multiple entry tourist visa (from the UK) whereby you can enter Thailand for a maximum of 60 days per entry. I'm wondering if that's the case. It seems like a fairly convenient way to stay in Thailand for 6 months (by simply taking a weekend trip outside Thailand near the expire of each 60 day period - ie. two exit trips). Am I understanding this correctly? My aim is to stay around 4 months.
