Following up on a previous post about a possible 70 day stay in Thailand, I emailed the Thai embassy in Canada and this was a response. I never heard about a rule regarding 90 day cumulative stay within a 6 month period allowed.
This is the response:
Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in visiting Thailand. Passport holders of Canada can enter Thailand for tourism/ leisure purposes without a visa for a 30-day period of stay. Furthermore, foreigners who enter the Kingdom under this Tourist Visa Exemption Scheme may re-enter and stay in Thailand for a cumulative duration of stay of not exceeding 90 days within any 6-month period from the date of first entry. However, the visa exemption scheme is at the sole discretion of the immigration bureau. The Royal Thai Embassy cannot confirm the extension and the entry
Please make sure that you are in possession of a passport valid for at least 6 months, an air ticket leaving Thailand within 30 days, and adequate finances equivalent to at least 10,000 Baht per person or 20,000 Baht per family. Otherwise, you may be inconvenienced upon entry into the country.
Please note that entering Thailand under the visa exemption scheme by air has no limitation on the number of entries. On the other hand, entering Thailand (under the visa exemption scheme) by land is limited to 2 times per calendar year.
If your stay is over 30 days, you may be required to apply for a tourist visa. You can apply for an e-visa online at thaievisa.go.th
· Multiple entries (325 $CAD): The visa is valid for six months, and during each visit to the country, you can stay for a maximum of 60 days. This means you have the option to exit and re-enter as needed. Please kindly note that you would need to attach a letter explaining the reason why you are applying for this visa type.
The visa approval takes 25 business days once the complete application with all supporting documents has been submitted.
In the case additional documents are requested, the visa process will take more than 25 business days. We recommend applying 2 months before the departure date due to the high demand of applications.
Attention:
· E-Visa processing time is 25 business days with no expedited service provided. Incomplete information will cause a delay in your application.
· Visa fee is non-refundable, please check the information to ensure everything is correct before submitting the application. Double-check all information especially if your device is using autofill or auto-correct.
· Consular officers reserve the right to request additional documents as deemed necessary and also reserve the right to reject/cancel any application without having to provide a reason.
· Regarding the regulation, The Royal Thai Embassy, Ottawa "can not" issue a visa for foreign nationals who are currently in Thailand. All travelers need to obtain a visa before entering Thailand.
· Applications from outside our jurisdiction will be rejected.
