  1. We have exactly the same problem with a WIN7 PC and the TRUE ZyXEL router.

Two other PCs running WIN XP have no problem on LAN cable only my son's PC (WIN7) has this problem. For now he is running it on WiFi which is working well but very slow for file transfers between PCs.

I have now some questions regarding the settings as suggested by Crossy:

Is it enough to enter those settings only in the TCP/IP properties on the PC or are there also changes to the router settings required?

I'm reluctant to make any changes on the router for fear it may upset the other PCs on the LAN.

The fixed IP as suggested is 192.168.1.3 but the router is pre-set with:

IP pool starting address: 192.168.1.33 and pool size 32.

So what IP address should we use on the PC?

As the primary DNS Crossy suggested 192.168.1.1, is this correct since it is the router IP?

  2. This may not be of much help to nitge now but here is some info regarding pestcontrol:

Everything below was taught us by plant-inspectors of the Department of Agriculture (Kaset).

Since we export plants to the EU we had to register our nursery as being bug and pest

free. This took a year with montly visits by inspectors. After the nursery was found

clean for the last three visits we got the certificate.

Since we buy all plants for export from other growers and the plants are usually small

and infested we have to treat them prior to placing in our nursery.

This is done by taking the plant up-side-down and dipping the entire plant (NOT the

rootball) in 0.2% Imidaclopid for 15 min., keep in a dry place and water only the roots -

do not water the foliage - for one week.

After that water normally and spray the plants from underneath the foliage with

    Carbosulfan once a month.

This is suppost to work for all bugs known here.

For long term use we had to place bug glue tags around the nursery (see photos).

These tags are non toxic and can be placed in every garden. You can easily make them

    yourself:

Cut YELLOW! (this color attracts most bugs) corugated plastic poster board (not sure

what this is actually called in English) size 4x6" and fix it on a little bamboo stick. This

can be permanent since it never needs to be changed.

Place a clear plastic bag (4½ x 7") and place it over the plastic board, use a staple

(MAX) to hold it in place. Now spread bug glue on both sides of the bag (the glue is

water and sun proof for about a month and can be bought at shops outside

Chatuchak). Replace the bag every 3-4 weeks or when full of bugs.

As for the Hibiscus of nitge you can make some tags just tall enough to fit under the

bush but the yellow tag is just inside the foliage. This way you will not only catch flying

    but also some crawling bugs.

The hight of the tag should be about level with the foliage with most plants in the

    garden.

Now an inspector shows up every six weeks and weekly if we have a shipment

scheduled. I they find any bug on two subsequent visits our certificate will be revoked.

Our nursery is open air, no greenhouse etc. so it can be quite a tough job if you have a

    few thousand plants stored there.

  3. I have a gardening question about those little white aphids (?) which afflict my hibiscus plants

We have the same problem with the plants we export One aphis found in a EU or US bound shipment and all plants will be destroyed. Particularly Hibiscus and Plumeria appear to be tasty for the bugs.

We use a variety of chemicals, whatever is currently in our stock.

I suggest you do a Google for aphis control - lots of info there. Most chemicals are available at the shops outside the Chatuchak market in BKK.

Strong water spray is also OK but only if you can find them all and the infestation is not widespread.

  4. The following applies to BKK immigration!

We know that the official rule for retirement (800K Baht) extension is 2 months for first time applicants and 3 months for all subsequent applications.

Here in BKK the same rule had been applied for "Thai Wife" extensions (400K Baht) for the past three years, Even had to sign a paper to that effect even though the official written rule states only 2 months for all applications.

Last week I went for my annual renewal and was presented with the same paper but it stated that from now on the deposit has to be in the account for 2 (two) months on the day of application.

I asked the officer and she said that yes it is now two months for all applications, "Immigration finally compromised" (Her words!)

  5. This is the giant Elephant Ear also giant Taro. It is a Colocasia but difficult to say which variety.

The stems and tubers (roots) can be eaten.

Do a google for colocasia and may be you can find out what variety it is.

They can grow like weed given the right environment.

  6. I've just posted details about my requirements in the Medical / Health forum. If you can reply please go to:

    Here in Health Forum

and do not reply in the General forum.

    To mods:

You may close this topic in the general forum. I only posted here as well because more people read it. Replies should go to the forum where they belong.

    Thanks

  7. Due to radiation treatment (facial cancer) I am going to lose my left eye.

What I am looking for is the rather flat usually black type with an elastic band for ease of removal and flat enough that I can still wear my reading glasses.

Any idea where I could find them?

I've asked at many big pharmacies and Drugstores, even the biggest in Thailand (Fascino) and at the hospital (Siriraj) which is treating me, but they all have only the big type plastic and Alu cups which have to be taped on and over which you can not wear glasses.

    Thanks for any help.

  8. In the past when subscribing to a topic using the "Watch topic" button this button changed to "Stop Watching Topic", now it remains as a "Watch topic" button.

The subscription is working OK but now have to dig through my settings in order to unsubscribe.

The "Stop Watching Topic" button was very convenient. Please bring it back.

  9. Since I can't find the article online I just scanned my print-out with all my notes.

We followed the instructions exactly and now everything is working.

We did set up a new work-group under the name HOME (note: without the word group as part of the name)

  10. We had the same problem last year when my son installed Win7. All other PCs are on XP.

In Win7 you have to leave the homegroup and disable the homegroup service since the homegroup only works with other Win7 PCs!

After this is done you can set up a group with a different name.

The attached doc file explains how it is done. I got this one from askvg.com/how-to-disable-homegroup....

I also printed an important file from the MS knowledge base which explains everything (it is easy) but I did not save the file or the link.

The title in the print-out is:

Windows 7 Net5work printing problems, Set up file/printer sharing.

I tried to find the article but no luck.

    Homegroup_delete1.doc

  11. Quote from OP:

Is there a way to pay online for a True fixed line phone line that runs my Internet account.

It depends on how you pay online.

I pay all our TRUE bills (the ones in private name) online apart from one fixed line which is in the company name. But I use a credit card to pay not actual online banking.

  12. I liked the news ticker at the top of the page, you could click on an item and it would take you to it, while staying in TV, not taking you to Twitter, which if you are not already a member of you are probably not inclined to join.

Surely keeping members inside the pages of TV is better.

    Very true!

I never click on anything that leads me to facebook or twitter.

The old news ticker was much better.

  13. Not sure if this is related to the toolbar issue or not but I observed it on the same day the toolbar showed up.

The button "Watch Topic" no longer changes into "Stop Watching Topic" after I've subscribed to the topic. Notifications etc. all is working fine but now I have to run through the subscribed topics in order to unsubscribe from it. The "Stop Watching Topic" button was very convenient.

This is not a big issue, just a hassle to unsubscribe.
