  1. I want to buy or rent a half decent mountain bike on Koh Samui if anyone has any advice please let me know. There used to be a company called Red Bicycle which rented bikes but sadly they have closed.

Advice on routes would also be appreciated.

    Cheers

    John

If you are not able to sort out a bike on Samui there are 2-3 good stores in Surat. PM me for details / directions.

  2. my lady needs a thai passport, i heard it is possible to make it in surat. what office should i be looking for? also, do they give it straight away? and what documents are needed?

    any help is greatly apreciated.

The building is on the Tapee river. Coming from Tesco direction on the main road into town, go past the Wang Tai hotel (LHS) and over the bridge, turn left at the next set of lights (between the TAT, DBD and PTT) onto the river drive. It's the 2nd or 3rd building on the RHS, just before the Harbour Master Dept. There is a big satellite dish next to entry gate.

If you are heading along the river from town (from direction of Bandon Pier) go past the municipal market (LHS) and Fire Station (RHS) and it is at the end of the river drive just before the road bends to left. Statues and other stuff on the river.

My lady made her passport last Dec. - took a couple of days. Needed her ID card and Tabian Baan.

  3. I apologise in advance if this is old info but their name did not come up in a search.

We are a boat building company in southern Thailand and solar battery charging is generally a standard item on most cruising yachts. We have found a Thai company Bangkok Solar that produces the panels here in Thailand. They have an excellent brochure with various system set ups. Please PM me if anyone wants an e-mail copy.

The pricing on their panels was pretty much comparable with the cheapest wholesale prices out of the USA on a quick net search. So once you add the freight, duty and VAT......... We are looking to fit their panels to some of our customers boats and also on some solar powered boat projects we are working on.

They produce the amorphous silicon panels which are supposed to be more efficient.

From a personal point of view I am also looking at fitting some of their panels on a house build I am hoping to start this year some time.

Also looking at the new generation wind generators with the spiral (vertical) blades as opposed to the more common propeller type - again, more efficient, but not yet investigated the pricing.

Like I say - apologies if they have already been covered in TV.

  4. 53 Moo 3 Tambol Khaopung, Ban Takoon, Surat Thani 84230

    Telephone (077)240-740-5 Ext. 2511-2

that's from a website, but there is no map.

its also called EGAT Golf Club, coz they built it,

its in a national park near the electricity dam i guess.

anyone know where it is and how to get there?

am investigating a day trip to play somewhere,

it has very good reviews and is only 500baht to play.

Easier route (bit longer - but better roads and avoids Surat city) take the 44 West in direction Krabi, then north on the 41 and then west on the 401 til you reach the right turn at the lights marked Rajaprhaba Dam. When you reach the National Park check point (barrier) just tell them you are playing golf - then no Park Entry fee. Golf course is a right turn at the next mini cross roads. Been a few years since I've been there - a few of us used to play there regularly, years back (before any courses opened on Samui) and always went that route - about 1.30 hrs from Donsak ferry. Used to catch the early morning ferry and last one back. Great course, very picturesque and quite challenging - superb value for money. Another nice course is the 9 hole military course in Surat.

Must brush the cobwebs off my bag somtime :o

  5. No Worries Piss Flaps - will pass on your regards to everyone next time I'm on the KSH3 - I am now living on the main land - REAL THAILAND!! Don't miss THE ROCK that much. And if I do - then it's only a 1.5 hr ferry trip!

BTW - given your new hair-less top lip (what happened - did the Slug Fall off!!) have already got a great new Hash name lined up for you - believe me - you are gonna wish you'd kept Piss Flaps :o

Look forward to getting those three beers you still owe me!

    See you next year

  6. Any info would be appreciated I'm Known to them as Bob the fireman from Melbourne

    Thanks in advance Lil Bob

PS I am seeking the info to see if it's worth a trip to Samui :o

Hey Piss Flaps - u know you cannot change your name without our approval! Yes, still worth a visit and you will encounter most of the old gang you mention (some depending on time of year). The Red Fox has moved again and is now in the walking soi opposite the location of the old Red Fox Mossie Aquarium, next to the old Lamai Food Court. The Sunday Roast is still a Lamai Institution and his jokes are just as bad as ever!

PM me for Blue Lugs (aka The Carlisle Kid, aka Alan Johnson) e-mail address or just check out the KSH3 web site.

The intrepid Hash Hound 'Foxy' aka Golden Balls (cos he had none!!) unfortunately gone up to that great big kennel in the sky!

Let me know when you're heading over and I'll be sure to make it over to the 'Rock' for a beer or 10 - long as it's a Hash Day!!

    On On - Camel C**t

  7. Coco Sailing build fibreglass hulls for their boats - I'm sure if you gave them a call they would help you out.

    NOT ANYMORE!

Try the Thai guy in Ban Thale, at the cross roads on way to Thong Krut from Hua Thanon. But beware - if you have a wood core boat none of the Thai boat repair yards (AFAIK) will use epoxy as too expensive. Otherwise PM me and I can give you the contact number for an English guy that can take a PROPER look at it and give you some sound advice.

  8. I have ADSL 256 from TOT and use 'totadsl.th.com' for sending mails with my mail client. But since three days now is the SMTP server down and I always have to open that boring Webmail.

Does anybody know something about this? I live in Roi Et.

Mails sent to TOT are not answered.

    syntoh

Had the same problem last Friday - visited the TOT DSL web site http://203.154.210.35/index.htm - it's all in Thai, but if you tab down and find your package (mine is goldcyber) and adjust settings on Outlook outgoing mail per web site it should work - mine did. But really nice of TOT to tell everyone - NOT!!!!

Now for last 2 days my DSL connection has been down - so going through everything I can think of to try and find out why?? Will visit TOT office later but no one speaks English - maybe they have changed settings for start-up handshake without telling anyone.

    I live in Suratthani.

    Good luck!

  9. Your welcome. Sounds like no fun with the additional TOT modem problem.

I am thinking here, so bear with me. Some stupid questions (Gotta' exclude the simple stuff) OK?

    1) Do you have another LAN cable to try? (Straight through) Or are you on a USB port?

    2) Which version of SMC firmware do you have? I had one of those (exactly) before.

I bought it in Thailand and it had the old firmware version. I upgraded from their website.

    3) Try the release/renew as well. Clear all temp files and caches.

Let us know how your doing and we'll try to help. Good Luck, it's usaully something simple

so trobleshoot calmly as you can.

    :o

    Thanks again digitele!

    1) Yes, have tried another LAN cable

    2) Firmware might indeed be the problem? I noted from SMC web site that there were upgrades for this model - but don't know how to check the smc modem or how to upgrade the firmware!!?? Tried to find the modem thro control panel / system / hardware / device manager - but cannot locate!!?? Any help on this techie stuff greatly appreciated!

    3) Have tried ipconfig release / renew several times and clearing temp files and cache - IE and Firefox - still no go!

Think the firmware issue might be the one!

    Thanks for any assistance.

  10. The gateway has to be 192.168.2.1 (or did you mistype?). You did type IPCONFIG/RELEASE from command prompt so it could obtain new information?

Yep, have gone thro ipconfig 'release' and 'renew'. The gateway IS 192.168.2.1. The 1.1 refers to the ethernet after the modem - was 2.1 for the usb hook up. The USB will not work anymore - which leads me to think might be a problem with the modem?? Hence reason for trying the smc modem - process of elimination.

    Thks lopburi3

  11. exactly like this

    C:\>ipconfig

It should show the WAN side IP address (TOT) or whatever

It should show the LAN side IP address (PC-Router side)

    Just trying to help.... :o

Thanks digitele - done all that many times - get 192.168.2.xx for TOT side, 255.255.255.0 for subnet mask and 192.168.1.1 for LAN side. Appears to communicate with ISP ok - but just will not load - always times out!!! Have tried everything suggested on TV site and SMC site - except 'try another computer' - my notebook fried some weeks ago and not got THB to replace it yet.

The technician came yesterday - hooked the TOT modem back up, it worked but still drops out (link down) every 5-10 minutes - speeds are slow and takes forever to download files (even small ones) due to waiting for link to come back up. Same with e-mails!!!! Told him all this but he just said 'yes' and left!!!

  12. Assume you are using XP and have done steps 2/3 from manual (remove proxy HTTP and confirm contact with command prompt)?

The IP address is correct at 192.168.2.1 and you just enter that in the IP window of browser and hit connect/go to and you should get the sign on screen for SMC if everything it hooked up right. I guess you are not getting the sign on screen from your post. If you have another browser on computer try using it.

The full entry in browser should be: http://192.168.2.1/

Thanks lopburi3 - have tried all that - just will not open. Have tried firefox as an alternative browser - only thing left to try from troubleshooting is 'a new computer'!!

  13. I live in Khanom (Nakhorn Si Tammarat) and have a goldcyber package from TOT. Package came with the standard TOT modem from AVBell - the USB hook up worked initially but now not at all. Modem gets very hot and after good connection speeds in first week or so the DSL link is now dropping out every 5 minutes or so - and speeds are not even up to regular phone modem when it does link up!!! Very frustrating. I purchased an SMC 7904BRA to see if this modem might give me better connectivity. Despite the fact this modem is getting an IP address from the network I have never managed to open up 192.168.2.1 to configure the SMC modem. I have followed all trouble shooting steps from SMC Singapore site and have tried any hints off the TV forum - but nothing works.

Any suggestions anyone - apart from switching back to a regular phone line modem - which will at least stay on and let me send and receive e-mails!!!

    Any help appreciated - thanx!!
