No, this is not how many DTAs work in practice. There are many different or visions.

Double Tax Agreement (DTA)
This agreement exempts any individual residing in Thailand and the country where Thailand has signed the agreement with from paying income taxes on both countries. To clarify, an individual can pay income taxes in the country where the individual is currently residing. The DTA has several purposes regarding income tax:
-
Prevent double taxation for reducing financial burdens among individuals.
-
Avoid conflicts on taxing rights ensuring income is taxed once or at a reduced rate.
-
Ensure fair treatment on taxation from discrimination.
-
Prevent tax evasion and fraud by sharing information with the contractual party.
-
Promote economic activity in stimulating cross-border transactions and investments between the treaty countries.
As of 9th October 2023, Thailand has signed the DTA with 61 countries. Nevertheless, the individual may be subject to double taxation in Thailand and the country where Thailand is not a contractual party to the DTA.

Hard to find any humor among this sorry, pathetic bunch... But this one below from Fuentes (from the OP article above) really takes the cake! Are you listening, Donald?
""So, why did we do Stop the Steal? Why did did anyone go to Jan. 6? Why did any one go to jail? ... It would have been good to know that before 1,600 people got charged," Fuentes said on his podcast, referring to the criminal charges for those who invaded and ransacked the Capitol. "It would’ve been good to know that before (I) had all my money frozen, put on a no-fly list, banned from everything, lost all my bank and payment processing.”
DUH!!!!
Nick, maybe take a long pause next time before you believe anything, or act on anything, that Donald Trump says.
How terribly sad, but inevitable and justified, for this guy! ??

People who are very rich can afford to defend their properties with dykes and seawalls, the ordinary Joe can't. That point seems to be missed by posters talking about how the rich are buying waterfront property.
And buy boats to get around??

IIRC the Bangkok floods of 2011 put half the city under water. The only safe place to park was on the overpasses. That was storm Nock-Ten.
The laws of thermodynamics say storms will get more intense. If you find a way to beat those laws, I'll be the first to nominate you for a Nobel Prize in physics.
Which half?

In 2010 parts of Bangkok were up to a metre below sea level, in 2024 parts of Bangkok are still up to a metre below sea level.
Did the sea move up or down? Not noticed any difference down on the coast here!

If you are not tax resident (more than 180 days) you are not eligible to obtain a TIN or file a return to reclaim tax paid.
That sounds very unlikely! People have been doing both of these for very many years.

I do have sympathy but, he and her brought it upon themselves, if it was my own/wife's family member then maybe I would . Had he married her legally at an Amphur then she would be entitled to his money.
Only any money in Thailand, and only with great difficulty when there is no will! Or am I wrong?

There are two proposals in the works. The remittances tax which was proposed to take effect with this year's remittances. And the worldwide income tax. Don't think the remittance tax applies to what you're describing. The worldwide income tax does.
But what is this WWIT? Never heard if it before!

ask any hotel employee if they get that 10% service charge and most would say they do, it gets divided at the end of the month, so during high occupancy, their take home pay is more compared when there's no guests
In what country is this?

If there is an actual "general implicit practice to leave around 10% of the check in a restaurant in Thailand for the tip" it's because people like the OP have been giving tips, apparently regardless of the actual service ( somewhat like when IMO idiots give sin sod for their non virgin previously married beloved to be their wife ). It doesn't take much for all the restaurant etc workers to start looking at a tip as an essential part of remuneration, rather than as a sign of gratitude by the customer for a job well done.
I never used to leave a tip unless the service was exceptional, or I was a regular and got on well with the staff.
Next thing we know, taxi drivers will be demanding tips, hotel employees will be demanding tips etc etc.
IMO, just don't, unless the service deserved something extra. It may not yet be too late to rescue Thailand from this odious practice.
Why only ”naturally”?

Believe it or not, many of the perfectly acceptable hotels in Thailand do not add service charge. IMO it's something they add to posh hotels because they know the muggins tourists will prefer it to trying to work out how much to tip the staff.
I doubt it is much to do with tipping. More likely the rules of Agoda etc.

Anywhere I've flown, the officer checking passports always scrutinized the passport picture, looking at me to make sure I was the one on the passport. This includes the US where I'm from. As far as I know airline tickets are non transferable. You can change flights for yourself but not let another fly on your ticket.
Really??? And why is US practice at all relevant here?

Why/how would they possibly know to where he went???
