  1. This may help someone - but I have just booked a return flight on Emirates from Bangkok to London Gatwick (but Heathrow was also available) in early April for little more than 26,000 baht inc. taxes. The transit time in Dubai is good too - only a couple of hours in each direction.

I could be wrong, but I think this is pretty cheap. It's certainly a lot cheaper than other airlines I was looking at for the same period.

I have been checking out the same from Chiang mai and have been told if i can wait to May, that Thai airways have some special offers coming up.

Around 26k maybe worth waiting for.......check it out.

Who did you book Emirates with?

  2. For what its worth it just wasn't worth it......worthless :o

    Wasn't worth what?

I thought it was a free magazine and though I only saw one edition, I thought it was pretty good considering the alternative, no magazine.

I thought it had potential, I liked the free advertising section but they needed to edit out things like house sales.

I would have thought that house sales would have been one of the main revenues of the magazine.

  3. Are there any detailed maps for this area available?

Never sure if they're called large or small scale but the equivalent of the ones in Australia or the US that show all the smaller roads etc. Tried the local Police but their's is hand painted on the wall.

The tourist police have a fairly good map freely available.

The new free magazine Communi Thai has a copy of it in their December issue.

  4. I have talked to a few people that are preparing to leave Thailand as they can't get the proper visa.

Some gone for good and others will be back after three months.

All of these people have enough money to stay here and indeed, put a good bit of money into the local economy but for various reasons can't get a visa or don't want to go to the bother.

Surely Thailand is shooting itself in the foot by not welcoming these people.

    Are you going home?

  5. Nice and clear where I am!

'Domyamkung'... rather than reverting to name calling (which is against the Forum Rules by the way), why don't you post elsewhere? :o

I live quite near chiang Rai, at least a lot nearer than you.

Check the rules again, I hav'nt broken any.

Why are you being rude to me because I find this, the only forum about Chiang rai very boring.

at least I will try to waken all these old codgers up and talk about something other than the weather.

I like this local forum, sometimes I got a lot of information from it but recently it has gone down the tubes. Don't be nasty just because I say this.

  7. Nice and clear where I am!

    :D:D:D

I just wondering is it Chiang rai that is boring or the people that are in this website.

People who are bored or don't have a lot to say usually talk about the weather.

Nice day today, bad day yesterday, maybe rain tomorrow.

  8. take your phone into a dtac or ais shop and they will take your simcard , place it in a little gizmo and press a button , and 10 seconds later your sim card will have had all its thai numbers updated. it doesnt change international or landline numbers.

make sure your phone numbers are stored on the sim memory , not the phone memory.

    and its free.

    Wrong information.

If your phone has an international code it's ok but if like me your phone has some important U.K numbers, without the international code don't go to a phone shop, do it manually.

  9. Just a question out of curiousity more than anything else. I go out very seldom ( maybe once a week) for a couple of beers. I usually go to Bo's place as the prices are good and the service is always good. There are a few of the locals that go there that I know of but it doesnt come close to the amount of locals living in Chiang Rai.

    I have been to:

    Bo's place

    CR49

    Thiery's Bar

    The elephant bar

are there others here that I am missing.

There are not that many places in Chiang Rai and that is what leads to my question.

    Where do we go?

    In The Rai! :o:D

Anyone knew of any pool bar in chiang rai ?

Cats bar, but beware it's a dragon's den.
