Economy Trump Dishes Out 36% Tariffs in Shock Move Against Thailand
RMK54 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes, we do, because that's what we voted for! 70+% of the population saw the waste, fraud and abuse being perpetuated by the liberal Democrats in our government. They saw the pandering to the EU and other countries before addressing the concerns of US citizens. So, the people spoke, Trump heard, and he is governing the USA for the benefits of Americans, not the world. Now, I truly believe, once America is back on solid footing, he probably will be more gracious to other countries and try and help them. However, before he does that, he's going to right our government and get the US on a steady course. Don't let your Kumbaya emotions and <removed> get the best of you, sit back, enjoy your retirement, or whatever you're doing in Thailand, and watch. A ship's path doesn't turn on a dime, but PDJT has directed the US ship to be aggressive in maneuvering as much as possible.- 280 replies

Report Thai-US Tariff Deal Hits Snag as Vietnam Charges Forward in Talks
RMK54 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's interesting, the number of left leaning armchair politicians that post on here regarding US economic strategies. I've found that most, even when I look at myself, have an "opinion" about things that vaguely touch the actual true points of an issue with accuracy that is way, way less than 10% of the true story. One's personal bias tends to drive them to dislike a person or thing not on what they know about them/it, but what they "think" they know. I'd bet that most of the pundits posting here are far, far from in the know about any of this subject matter! -

Report Sunburn Nightmare: British Teen’s Thailand Trip Derailed by Sun
RMK54 replied to snoop1130's topic in Koh Samui News
Come on! She's British, the epitome of white. The UK is statically overcast 78.7% of the time. When they do get a peek at the sun, it's still partially hidden by broken clouds. Koh Samui is at latitude 9.5° N and the UK 52° N. Given this perspective to the sun's rays is like selecting simmer on a gas stove compared to full on flame for boil or burn. Her skin is probably so white, the sun's rays were probably bending to be absorbed by her. I have a son-in-law from Traverse City, Michigan, latitude 44° N, he is just like she is, a sun ray absorber. Now that he and my daughter live in Eastern North Carolina (35° N), she can cover him with a centimeter thick application of sunscreen and it just acts like a frying media on his skin. But, he knows that's how he is and seldom comes out without being covered with SPF clothing and a wide brimmed hat. Me, for some reason, with Austrian/English bloodlines(or something like that), my skin is like my mothers and I brown from the rays coming through a window. I just don't burn. My dermatologist says I'm good to go! So, after all this textual jabbering, I do feel sympathy for this young lady, but she had to know (or should have known) that she was susceptible to the intense rays of Koh Samui at 9.5° N. I bet she won't do that again! -
Early assessment suggests US strikes didn’t destroy Iran’s nuclear sites
RMK54 replied to BLMFem's topic in Political Soapbox
The benefits of disinformation is that it has everyone, including this forum, imparting and disseminating half truths to further a narrative to justify extending warfare on an engagement that may not be warranted. Everyone here has done their bidding. What one thinks they know about something is usually way less than 10% of reality...especially when it deals with national intelligence. -

Tourists and expats that act like this makes me scratch my head. My wife and I worked our butts off to retire and come to Thailand to chill out from the stresses of life, not bring them with us. You're telling me you can't do without the nicotine hit until tomorrow? Arrest him, jail him and kick him out of Thailand, the Thai people don't need this behavior from tourists or expats ... neither do we!

Although he provided for my mother, me and my six siblings, he was an excessive disciplinarian, using verbal and physical means, to the extreme, to address issues. I am a very disciplined person and have always been as an adult, but decided early on with my children to do neither of those to correct behavior. So, I guess what I learned from him was not to be like him in that way.

Opinion Unpacking Thailand’s Beauty Ideals: A Call for Diversity and Inclusion
RMK54 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Time tells all! I was a workout king for a long time until the grind of life and age started having its affects. Today, I'm 67 with Siatica, warn joints and random aches and pains...thank you Navy! It happened over night. My son, a 20 year retired Marine, told me I needed to workout more. I thought the same thing when I was his age, 43. It hasn't hit him yet, rolling out of bed at 6am with a muscle pull and a knee pain that wasn't there the day before. I think he's soon to be enlightened to the inevitability! Where am I going with this? All these young men and women chasing the scalpel and chemical fountain of youth and beauty will eventually face the aging of time, too. They may try and fight it, but, eventually, their doctor and spa visits will only stretch, pull and change them to a point. Beyond that point, that's when their chase of these fountain of youth elixirs will start making them look less than normal and more like a freak. Accepting themselves as they are, over time, will allow them to age more gracefully and not live to unrealistic expectations that only a psychological change will fix. -

Community Chiang Mai Café Responds to “Human Zoo” Controversy
RMK54 replied to Georgealbert's topic in Chiang Mai News
Wait a minute. I have traveled around the world and have gone on many excursions where I've paid to watch artisans carve wood, create pottery, and show their abilities to create various items for sale. What I see here is something very similar, except, I can sit and have some coffee. If the individuals on the other side of the glass are getting paid for their efforts, how is this any different from these other locations I've visited? Anyone upset about this is truly virtue signaling. Go ask if those individuals if they care ... probably not! -
I Love to Touch You When We Walk: But,..."OK in Thailand"?
RMK54 replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
We have always held hands throughout our marriage. As we've gotten older, although still a sign of endearment for each other, it has also become a method of joint stability, literally! We won't consume the walkways, and break apart when needed, but we're together most any other time. People will just have to sneer at us! -
Travel Star Voyager Sets Sail for Thai Shores, Boosts Pattaya Tourism
RMK54 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
We cruised with Holland America on the Westerdam, we docked at the shipping port Laem Chabang. It is close to Pattaya City; however, if many of the other excursions go north to areas around Bangkok. We did two going north and the bus rides were VERY LONG. A good portion of the routes from that area are not highway. The portion that is highway was bumper to bumper. The ride to and from the sites consumed a good portion of the day. The reason we went north instead of south was that there seemed to be more tourist related things associated to Thailand than a beach with bars would offer. I'm not disparaging that area, I'm just stating my observations as a cruiser being in port for a short time. Stating this, I am applying for a LTR Visa to move to Thailand because we saw there was opportunity for another chapter in life! -
Opinion Russian Teacher to Thais: Drop ‘Farang’ if 'Ni Hao' Offends
RMK54 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
So, I did a little language research and the word Farang comes from the word "Frank" used to refer to "Europeans" vis-à-vis "Westerner"(stems from Persian and Greek). Okay, so what! I am a Westerner, born and raised; therefore, I am a Farang. I was in the Navy for a long time, called many things by my friends and those not my friends, it didn't stop me in anything I did in life. So, this guy should get over it and be thankful the Thai people have invited them to THEIR country and they haven't called him anything worse. If he doesn't like it ... Go Home! This Farang will not call anyone anything but friend and offer them a smile. -

My wife and I are “Westerners”, we are actually coming to Thailand to escape the “Opinion Police”. We live in an area of North Carolina where retirees from the NE USA and W USA left and brought the issues they were escaping from. We loved it when we came here years ago because it was so laid back. I hope we’re not moving from one problem to another. We have lived many places and have learned “While in Rome, do as the Romans do”, we plan to acclimate and let others live their life. -
Pit Bull Attacks & Kills 67-Year-Old Woman Cycling in Pathum Thani
RMK54 replied to Georgealbert's topic in Bangkok News
I’m a believer that most dogs are as good as they are treated. However, Pit Bulls have too many strikes against them that eliminates this premise. My wife and I have had an encounter with two loose Pit Bulls that attacked our leashed dog. I don’t have animosity towards the breed, but believe the risks of ownership overshadows the rewards.
