As CallumWK pointed out, it's a mutual defense treaty. Not a mutual offense treaty. Individual countries that are members of NATO were free to send their troops to Afghanistan. But they weren't there as NATO troops.

Why are they our enemies? I don't think that they are are enemies any more than they are our friends. Why does it matter to you how the European governments spend their money? They are plenty wealthy enough to take care of themselves if they want to. Why should the US be subsidizing them at all? Or do you believe that there is a threat from Russia, a threat that could hurt the USA? And that we need to assist the Europeans to persuade them?

Very foolish of you to think that Trump was ever Putin's puppet. But it certainly looks like he's being led by the nose by Netanyahu. Remember when he ordered the attack on the Houthis? Fortunately he soon came to his senses and concluded a truce with them. A truce that did not require the Houthis to not attack the Israelis. So,it was great sadness to see him once again succumb spending American arms and treasure for the sake of a country that isn't anywhere close to America. What is the point of America First if it allows America to make sacrifices for distant countries? The ICC has already issued a warrant for his arrest and several other Israeli officials. That said, I don't think that the NYC police dept. has the authority to enforce that warrant. That's a federal matter. Still, I wish the Feds would do it just to make clear to the Israelis that the US isn't it's puppet anymore.

I think this is a great idea. But this article is over 4 months old. And President Trump's budget actually increases defense spending. I think the neocons have gotten to him.
