I had this same issue,,, drove me crazy. There were several temporary fixes that fixed the issue for 1-2 days but it kept coming back.

It turned out that I was using a non-Samsung cover which was messing up the smart cover settings. I removed the cover and the problem was fixed.

So are you using a cover? If so, is it an official Samsung made cover (which apparently have small micro chips inside of them to help communicate with the phone)?

I bought mine at Central Phuket - 2nd floor last Saturday, the DTAC and Apple shop had a small table near the escalator. Price was 23,800 baht for 16gb.

Hi - Wanted to ask the opinion of others regarding the state of the rental market for mid-level 2/3 bedroom houses with pools? I see a glut of these properties available online for rental, are the owners easily finding renters or are alot of properties sitting empty?

I plan to rent one of these properties shortly.

A limited partnership with your Thai wife is an easier option, and gets you a work permit. Less hassle, less paperwork and about half the cost of setting up a limited company. It can be set up very quickly, allowing you to start the long routine of obtaining a work permit.

On my last trip to Phuket, I became quite friendly with several motorbike and Jeep rental guys at Patong beach.

Since these guys operate so close to the beach and are usually there at time the tsunami hit, would all of them (or most of them) been killed?

It all depends, there were a couple of big waves before the big one hit, and also the ocean water started going out to sea big time beofre the big one hit. It all depends if they were there watching all of this or if they took off running after the first few bigger waves. It was also 10am when it happened and Patong is still not fully awake at that time.

Just wondering what the lower price ranges are for serviced and un-serviced apartments are for the Sathon area or anywhere immediately south. Does not necessarily have to be near Silom.

Remember that bonds aren't necessarily always low risk, and can be volatile. Especially in an environment where interest rate cuts are likely over for the time being. Unless you are prepared to hold the bonds until maturity, you can lose capital.
