  1. Thanks for the comments. Sometimes criticism is hard to take, but at least it is constructive criticism. But going back to my first post, in the very first paragraph it states that we are only an invited guest speaker at this seminar. We don't have a say in the admission price of 500 baht, we also don't get a cut of admission proceeds.

We were originally told that 500 baht would be charged so that people would not think the seminar is just a 3-4 hour 'infomercial' for investment products. Specific investment ideas and strategies will be discussed and shared, so at least people would be receiving value for their 500 baht. This is what we were told, not necessarily what we agree with.

On another note, yes there will be refreshments during the break, and we are not an investment advisor, but rather an independent electronic publisher of investment views.

  3. Actually we had a couple hundred expat investors out for a seminar in Pattaya (with little advanced notice and marketing). That seminar was a success, as we had many happy and informed attendees tell us so afterwards.

The purpose is not to peddle products, but rather to help investors learn how to invest without relying on their brokers who often promote speculative trading, a big problem in the SET.

Attendence is not compulsory, so if 500 baht sounds like a lot to you, please dont come.

  4. I would like to make the announcement below somewhere on the forum, but want to make sure it is not construed as spam or violating the TOS. Please note that Thaistocks.com is NOT taking ANY of the admission receipts and is only a guest speaker. Any guidance?

  5. I am trying to do some searching on Kuala Lumpur on the forum, most everybody seems to refer to it as KL. The search function on the forum won't allow to search for terms less than 4 characters. Is there a way around this?

Searching for "kuala lumpur" does provide results, but not the full results.

    Thanks,

  6. Recently posted at Thaistocks.com on the broker issue:

Thai brokers for the most part act irresponsible with many individual investors as they turn most investment accounts into pure trading accounts -regardless what the investor stated investment objective is.

They mostly push relentless day trading, often on stocks with no earnings and/or poor future prospects. They are graph and liquidity obsessed instead of investment respect for solid values. When a stock goes down they blame the SET, rather than their unprofessional casino strategy. As just one example, Thai brokers do not allow two separate broker accounts -forcing individuals to co-mingle investing with trading, thereby violating the most basic of all rules in this business.

The Thai stock exchange has an immense selection of deep values and high dividend income stocks, the problem is most brokers ignore these just to trade, trade, trade. Hence the best local values remain such values, which often remain unnoticed by investors.

When will the SET/SEC and other regulators shake-up and wake up, and demand a higher professional standard?

  7. Yeah its the real thing. I've had it for 2 months already. They charged me 1500 baht to set it up, but they may have be waiving that now as a second cable company has started up offerring the same channels. Beware that some of the UBC channels are in Thai though. There are two good English language movie channels.

  8. Interesting at how these big international institutions are all slamming Thailand at once. They piqued the interest of the Thai SEC this week who did some digging and found that these big institutions like Morgan Stanley have been NET BUYERS on the SET recently, contrary to their supposedly negative research reports. An investigation is now under way. I don't have a source URL, but it was in the papers recently.

  9. Hello Monitorlizard, you might find the following link useful http://www.thaistocks.com/f/news/broker/19990320/index.htm

It is a broker review and also touches briefly on opening an account. You are welcome to sign up to the site as a free member, we will be implementing a stock market course very soon on how to open an account, select a broker, etc (for free of course)

  10. It's a shame your website is so confusing and not as professional looking as it should be, because it seems that some of the services you are providing are valuable in terms of contents. A better organization of your system could be a more effective marketing tools.

  11. Peeter - I do not know how clearing works.

There are two prices listed for stocks on the SET.  One price is higher - it is what I would pay.  The other price is for Thais - it is cheaper and what they would pay.

Simply buy shares at a Thai price and instantly sell to a falang at the falang price and you make a profit!  Or, just wait for any falang to buy any stock at anytime, purchase the stock at the discount price and immediatly sell it for a profit.

There is one price listed on the DOW.  It is the same price anyone would pay.  I prefer to work in simple straight forward systems.

SamuiSam, no one forces you to buy the more expensive price, you can purchase either of the two.  Your idea of buying cheap Local shares and selling them as Foreign may work in theory but not in practice.  The only time the foreign price is at a premium of the local price is when the foreign limit is reached, and when the limit is reched you CANNOT buy Local shares convert them to Foreign and sell them for a premium.  The market is much too efficient to permit a glaring riskless profit like this to occur.  Its really not as complicated as you think because this does not happen much anymore due to NVDRs.  PLease read the article below and your questions should be answered:
