  1. We're living on Narathiwat Soi 3 and since a couple of months construction of a building has been going on. Unfortunately, it seems that the construction company in charge has or no clue about public safety and the safety of it's workers, or doesn't care at all.

The site is totally open and accessible to everyone 24 hours a day. The workers are sleeping, eating, washing, in short living on the premises. Construction materials are now starting to obstruct the street (long time already that we can't walk on that side of the street anymore).

It has come to the point that I do not allow my family to walk in this section of the street anymore, far too hazardous. They need to walk the block around. Unfortunately,my son's school bus uses this road and I don't want to imagine those materials falling from a high floor right on the bus !

According to Thai Labour Law, construction sites need to be fenced off, workers are not allowed to live on-site, etc. At least, that's what I was told during my training....

Anyone knows where I could report such malpractices and will I get heard ? ....before a real accident occurs....

  2. I'm a Belgian national, my wife is Indonesian and our 6 year old son was born in Thailand (and his birth certificate is Thai).

Previously, for Indonesian law, children born out of this mixed marriages automatically carried the father's nationality but recently Indonesian law has been amended and those children can apply for an Indonesian passport and have double nationality (until the age of 18 when they will have to make a choice).

To process our request, the Indonesian Embassy needs a translation of the Thai birth certificate which has been recently legalized (ours is 6 years old).

The translation is not an issue, but does anyone know where I could have the legalization done ? Ministry of Foreign Affairs ?

  3. I was living in BKK for a couple of years in the late nineties and used to have a professional, traditional Thai masseur from Wat Po come to our home once a week to perform massage for both my wife and myself.

Of course, we've been away for years and lost the contact.

Does anyone know of a good masseur (or masseuse) , not necessarily from Wat Po ?

  4. That's what I thought until I went to the bank (UOB).

They told me that by Thai Law, they need to exchange the Thai Baht to US$ for the transfer, then those dollars should be changed to Rupiah before being deposited on my Indonesian account. Meaning, I'll have to pay a lot of commissions, exchange fees, etc. I'd like to avoid that and am looking for another way of transfering the sum.

  5. I stopped smoking 3 years ago thanks to hypnotherapy in KL, Malaysia. I quit from one hour to the other and it was really very easy, although I smoked 2 packets a day for almost 25 years !

This method is not available in KL anymore and I do not have the contacts anymore. does anyone know if hypnotherapy is available in BKK and where ?

I'd like to help out some friends with a method that worked wonderfully for me...

    thanks

  6. As far as professional food production is concerned, under-cooked poultry and pork are not to be served and this is not something new.

If HACCP is used as a reference, the meat needs to be cooked in such matter that it becomes safe for consumption. This method does not leave room for rare cooking. The time-temperature requirements are such that pork and poultry (high risk protein foods) are served done only.

  7. I'm currently working in the catering industry in Bangkok and I am working on creating what could be called "the world's first REAL health bar". It will be a tasty chocolate related bar (health products usually lack taste), attractive and very beneficial for health without any un-healthy aspects (will be proven by official lab tests).

The product would target a large market segment globally, because both the cocoa industry and the health food industry are booming.

    Some questions :

    1) I'm looking for a lab that could perform a nutritional test which would officially

prove that the snack is 100% natural and has only beneficial influence on health.

The test should also show which positive effects the bar would have on one's

health if one would consume 1 bar per day (strong marketing tool).

Could anyone let me know which lab is best in Bangkok (prices are also

    welcome) ?

    2) Once there are no more doubts about the quality of this product, I guess I will

need to take some legal steps to protect my "invention".

Does it need to be patented or are there other ways of protection ? How does

one proceed to patent a food product ? How much does it cost ?

    3) From there, what would be the best course to follow ? I am not in a position yet

where I can start up a production unit, so I think I need to turn to the big players

in the field of food production (Nestle, Unilever, etc..). How can I have them

take care of the production, make their part of the money, while I keep the

patent and make my part of the profit ?

    Thanks for any input !!

  8. Hi Dirk,

I'm a Belgian Chef working in Bangkok. Been stationed in asia for the past 12 years. I'm currently working for one of the top hotel chains, which is (like all other chains) expanding at a crazy rate.

I'll contact you on your private email, there are plenty of opportunities even in Thailand. Luxury hotels need expat chefs to handle the complexity of their kitchen operations beside the creative and professional input, like it or not. From time to time, management tries to switch to western trained Thai chefs, but it rarely works out.

    cheers
