  1. serious crime on the 1996 law.
  2. Today, prostitution (ST/LT) over age 18 (since the 1996 law) and over 20 in bars (since 2018) is technically illegal in Thailand. But in practice, the law is ignored when workers are over 20. But what if Thailand becomes wealthier, more family-oriented, and more focused on protecting its global image, and finally earns U.S. Tier 1 status? To avoid reputational damage to tourism, police could shift from treating sex work as a tolerated offense to treating it as a serious crime. Police and volunteer units then enforce a total ban on all sellers and buyers. Any sex tourist caught could face severe punishment, possibly lifelong imprisonment, or even the death penalty. Tourism would continue, but sex tourism would be forbidden entirely.
  3. In the past, you would hardly see tattoos on Thai women, but nowadays more and more of them are getting inked. Personally, I don’t like it — but that’s a matter of taste. In Japan, tattoos are strongly associated with the mafia and gangsters, so you rarely see Japanese women with tattoos.
  4. When you like a bar girl/bar boy, give her a direct tip, not just another LD again. In bars, many guests are first-time visitors to Thailand, two-week billionaire holidays, long-term visa expats with big money, or Japanese/Korean tourists. They tend to buy lady drinks freely. If these tourists keep coming back in large numbers, prices will continue to rise. But here’s the problem: when you buy a lady drink, around 80% goes to the bar, and only 20% goes to the girl as commission. Example: On a 200 baht LD, she gets 50 baht commission. As the prices rise to 250 baht, 350 baht, and beyond, the inflation of LD prices continues. The more LDs you buy, the faster prices escalate. This is why tipping directly is the smarter choice. When you give her a direct tip, such as 50 baht or more, she earns the same or even more. You can politely decline the overpriced LD. By tipping directly, she gets 100%, you control your spending, and you avoid contributing to the endless cycle and you avoid being trapped in the never-ending LD price inflation of increasing LD prices. Also, always carry 20 baht bills (not coins), as handing over coins can feel cheap and create a bad vibe.
  5. The Truth about the Cobra Bar Case: Most of the bar staff were said to be adults, 20 years or older. One of the ladies was barfine and unfortunately 17 years old, but it was completely voluntary. But he was arrested afterwards even though it was voluntary. Many young adults had tattoos, which the channel claimed made them clearly not children. They were shown drinking alcohol and smiling, not force them what DW said. DW documentary profited significantly. In Germany, the minimum sexual age is 14 years, not 20 years in entertainment venues like in Thailand (from 2020).
