  1. Agree with geordie, have stayed in Queens garden resort a few times now. Cheap and clean, small restaurant on-site, a couple of 7-11's nearby also some food stalls within walking distance. Book it through Agoda.com normally about 700 baht with them.

Try the search function on Agoda for more choice, you can narrow it down to Suvarnabhumi/Bang na areas after choosing Bangkok.

    Or try this thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Hotels-guest...-A-t158365.html

There is also a pinned thread on the top of this page.

I tried to book last month and had real difficulty and ended up flying from Udon with Air Asia I would say they are going out of business which is a shame if you live right up in NE Isaan like I do as I`ll have to travel more to Udon.

Hi I have ended up doing the same, wife now driving down to pick me up in Udon. Only problem is that it's turning into a shopping trip as well now. :)

Hope Pbair get some aircraft shortly and start flying again soon.

  3. The one and only time I have bused it from Bangkok was during the PAD occupation of the Airport, so not very recent sorry.

I departed from Mo-chit, when the taxi drops you off on the second floor if you hang a right there is a VIP bus company located in one of the booths (sorry can't remember the name). The bus was very comfortable with 24 or so seats loads of leg room, cost was around 800- 850 baht if my memory serves me correctly. This included the food coupon for the stop in Korat and a bottle or two of water.

Your other option although slightly more expensive, fly to Udon with Air Asia approx 1000 baht and then bus it from there. The bus journey from Udon takes about five hours or so.

Once you get to Nakhon Phanom, jump on the bus to Mukdahan it stops in Tat Phanom approximately one-one and a half hours.

  4. Hi, I have been trying to book a flight with PBAir online for the past week or so with no luck, been using their online booking for a few years now with no problem.

What models of good road bikes (Novice - not Pro) can you recommend that are sold here in LOS?

Does anyone know of any quality shops in Phitsanulok?

Trek are a reasonably decent make for novice or pro. They have a wide variety of prices.

Probike in Bangkok are the main dealer for Thailand as far as I know, check out the link. They have various dealers all across Thailand, as anywhere discounts vary according to the dealer.

    http://www.probike.co.th/contact_us.php

The dealer for Pitsanulok is as follows.

    Lek Bicyclist

    343/3 Mittrapab Rd.,

    Muang, Pitsanulok 65000

    Tel.055-377-065

    Mobile.081-887-5256

Hope this is of some help.

    Happy Cycling.

    Hi Mr C

Curious about your tyre choice for riding here, any advice welcome

    Hi,

As per my original post I have still not brought my road bike with me yet. I had hoped to do so when I come again in November but my internal UK flight has been re-scheduled leaving me with a tight connecting time, so might leave it until my January visit.

My tyre choice will what is on the bike just now Michelin Pro Race Three, have nearly always used Michelin tyres in the UK they have served me well there over the years. Hope they hold up well in Thailand, I hope to find out sooner rather than later.

I have an overnight pass-through of Suvarnabum (UK to Ubon) coming up, so might try it out on 3rd September. If nobody else replies I'll post here. I would be surprised if it needs a long-in-advance booking if you can wait that long

Hi, thanks for the offer, I found the hotel on agoda.com there are plenty of reviews posted about the hotel.

    http://www.agoda.co.uk/asia/thailand/bangk...el/reviews.html

On the whole the reviews are fairly postive, think I will give it a try.

    Thanks again

Silver Gold Garden hotel is only a 10 min drive away, 900 baht single or double when booked their website - http://www.silvergoldgarden.com/ They also provide free pick ups both ways - the only hotel nearby to do both ways for free!

Hi, has anybody stayed at the above hotel, if so was it any good ?

I need a hotel for the 9th September for one night, previously I have stayed at the Convenient Resort and the Queen's Garden Resort, which were both okay for the money. Always looking for a hidden gem.

    Thanks for the link knocka.

    Best Regards :)

  10. Hi thanks for the replies and the links, much appreciated.

Looks like Chiang Mai is the place for road cycling in Thailand, 30 or so roadies out together is a good sized bunch. The link supplied has good info, the hill profiles around Chiang Mai look scary to say the least when combined with the heat and humidity, thanks again.

Looks as if bringing the bike will not be a problem. I hope to take my bike with me either next month, or when I come again in November. I think I will purchase a rigid bike box here (UK), hoping that it will offer the best protection available.

There is a group of cyclist in Nakhon Phanom, they meet beside the cargo ferry to Lao on the Mekong River Bank. I normally see them early in the morning and again at about four or five PM, not sure if they are the same group or a different bunch. It looks like they are mostly mountain bikers, with one or two roadies mixed in. Hopefully I can tag along with them for some company when I get going.

If you're ever in CM, drop me a note.

Thanks for that, no plans in the immediate future to visit Chiang Mai, we had a holiday on my last visit to Bangkok and Pattaya to visit some friends.

    Thanks again for your replies.

    Happy Cycling :)

  11. Hi everybody,

I am thinking about taking one of my road bikes to Thailand with me. If I arrive at the airport with my bike in a bike box and tell them (if stopped) I am on a cycling holiday this time, what is the likelihood, that they will check that I have the bike with me when I leave in a month’s time ? No problem with airline weights I get 46 kilo’s with Emirates being gold with them.

Are there any road cyclists out there ? I am an ex time trialist (competed in the Scottish bar) long time ago and dabbled occasionally in road races (not very good). I spend about four months of the year in Thailand spread over five separate visits. I am situated up in Nakhon Phanom where I rent a house with my Thai wife..

The roads around Nakhon Phanom are traffic free but also fairly flat. The only decent climb close to Nakhon Phanom is the Phu Pan mountain on the road between Sakhon Nakhon and Kalasin, which I will try if I get my bike to Thailand. Has anybody done the climb to Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai, I holidayed there a couple of years ago and thought it would be a good testing climb to try out sometime in the future.

I have never cycled in the heat and humidity that you get in Thailand, any pointers to surviving the conditions and travelling with the bike would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Best Regards

  13. Stayed there (Centara Hotel) about ten days ago for one night, paid 1200 baht, as the previous poster says great location but starting to look very tired. The price did not include breakfast, no great shakess as we wre leaving early anyway.

Lot of people swear by Ruk Suy (spelling) guest house about 350-400 baht a night. Nothing is really too far in Udon.

  14. I fly both routes quite often as do various other board members.

If flying into Nakhon Phanom, your drive to Si Songkram will take you around 45 minutes or so.

is there a good supermarket in Nakorn Phanom i.e Lotus or Big C?

Yes, there is a Tesco Lotus in Nakhon Phanom it is located on the main road in from the airport. Whether it is any good would be open to debate ?? :) No big C or any other well known supermarkets in Nakhon Phanom.
