  1. It's 'how', not what! There you go again, correcting people when it's YOU who is the problem! Eric.
  2. Mrs Eric has brown skin and a PhD. Locals (especially males) still seem to think she is a hooker. They stereotype to the max. A product of falling asleep in school during adolescence imo. Eric.
  3. Come on now, Malcolm! If you dont wanna be tarred with the same brush then get your hands off the brush, son! Eric.
  4. Yeah.. Usually it changes for the worse. Eric.
  5. Yeah, we can.. are you asking fort a friend or??? Eric.
  6. hmmmm.. There's quite a lot to unpack here! Being that there are hundreds, if not thousands of languages around the world - do you consider it incumbent on the farang to learn the local lingo of a place that they will only be visiting for 2 weeks?? (This goes for anywhere, Nigeria, Nepal, Afghanistan etc...) As English is the dominant global language then I personally consider it incumbent on all locals in all countries to get their English levels up to scratch! Eric.
  7. It's not Bs at all - it's my own subjective experience. Will you stop being a contemptible individual for 2 seconds? Eric.
  8. But why do they stereotype initially? Eric.
  9. Hope you read my full op. Hows the Ket? Eric.
  10. Give me a break. You live in Hat Yai! Thats on the USA and UK's no go list.... Eric.
  11. Has anyone ever noticed this? When dining out or wetting one's beak in a tourist ghetto, the servers suddenly change from all smiles to all scowls once they know you can speak Thai? and another thing, when you take a normal office girl out for lunch, everyone in said ghettos presumes that the girl is a bar girl.. I have in the past literally had taxi drivers shout out to my normal girlfriend at the time in Thai 'how much?'.... It's very strange behavior. Even stranger is when you meet a farang in a bar who claims to have been living here for 40 years, and yet still can't speak a word of Thai, and gets embarrassed and a bit flustered when he knows I can... Does anyone know the psychology behind it? And before anyone has a go at me - Yes, I do spend a considerable amount of my time around tourist ghettos, and no, I have absolutely no desire to spend my time rotting away in Nakhon Nowhere counting my coin collection. Eric.
  12. Seems Donald is living in your head, rent free! Eric.
  13. Restaurants already serve booze after 2pm in most tourist heavy areas. So just a face saving exercise, yeh? Eric.
