Why do Buddhist countries have so much conflict?
Buddhism is actually a philosophy of what is called "Hinduism" in western academia. While violence is something that is seen as negative, war is completely acceptable in both Buddhism and Hinduism.

Trump's Ballroom: White House East Wing Faces Demolition
The White House is iconic but hardly an architectural masterpiece unique from other similar buildings. It's also an active working building and not a museum so modifications are acceptable.

Trump is overly criticized
The critics are the media. The media generates a lot of the hot air that fires up social media and the left-wing voices that hate Trump. The decline of the media and the rise of communal-style politics go hand-in-hand with all that hot air. None of the choices currently being presented in the UK right now seems capable to take the country out of the mess its in. The US on the other hand has many capable politicians.

Thailand to Reconsider Cannabis Laws Amid Industry Concerns
I'm largely opposed to cannabis but I'd put a reprieve of one year or two to allow for a economic soft landing - maybe stopping imports of cannabis a little earlier. The quality of the tourists who come to Thailand for cannabis are really low and I doubt that the tourists themselves are the main economic benefit of making cannabis legal. (note I support having medicinal cannabis under prescription for whatever it is used for).

Trump is overly criticized
The media over the past decade or so has gotten worse and more narrativey. I presume that the decline of newspapers and television has contributed to high quality journalists moving into other better paying fields. I think these days most western countries have gotten enveloped in culture wars and racial politics to the point they've become ungovernable (communalism used to be the main sticking point that people would give South Asian politics but now I'd apply it to Europe and the West generally too).
