  1. Hallo ,perhaps a funny item , but I am DESPERATE looking for low white shoes (laces )MALE , military/naval type for my white ( tropical ) uniform.Any shop-adres in Chiang Mai ???? Whom can help and give me some information ???Thanks ! Josef :

  2. I was wondering if I go for a long trip, what to do if the tyre goes burst again, and I am in the middle of nowhere dark at night, and what are the remedies for

PB's advice about the MAG wheels is good advice, for sure... cured MY frequent blown inner tube problem.

I wasn't aware you could get tubeless tires for a motorcycle, here in Thailand! I didn't realize that they existed!

Also... if you're in the middle of nowhere and you get a flat... you can keep on driving, slowly... for a long time, if need be. Eventually the tire may get damaged, but that may be a WHOLE lot better outcome than being stranded, in the dark, at night.

I haven't seen the cans of pressurized goop, to fix a flat, here in Thailand... I don't think they are sold. In any case, the tire repair guys HATE working on a tire that's had the goop injected.

You also might try praying, intensely, prior to the trip... burn three sticks of incense, etc. etc... VISUALIZE A SUCCESSFUL JOURNEY!! Works for me!!

Hi , I am not shure of the cans of pressurized goop work on a bike but I may asume yes , I have ALWAYS 2 of those cans in my car and I did by those cans in Thailand.Iff I remember well in a good car parts shop but certanly in Chiang Mai.

  3. Hi All

I dont live in Pattaya but have a condo there and visit with my wife (thai) every year for a holiday and when I need to travel alone to sort out the condo etc. maybe once a year for 3 or 4 days.

I would like to know if there are any clubs I can join to meet friends and spend some time with when I am in town.

I do drink, like sports etc. but am not a clubber or party animal (anymore). I am not into playing cards or the church etc.

I would just like to find some decent people/friends to have a chat with, meet up with, keep in contact with when I am in the UK etc. who I can call friends.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you.

You could join The Royal British Legion !!!!! "Everyone " can join to suport and become member!

    Look on the web.

    Hope to meet you !!!!

  4. I have seen documents from immigration that there will be a new immigration office in Phitsanulok and Nakhon Sawan. However, Uttaradit will remain under Nan-immigration so you have to continue to use that office. The good news is that Nan-immigration allows you to do the report by mail.

    Don't forget to also send:

    - copy of passport (visa and permission to stay stamps)

    - copy depature card

    - your 90 day report slip (original, keep a copy for yourself)

    - return envelope with stamp

    Thanks , that save's us a auwfull trip !!!

  5. Thans for the swift replies ,but my friend (comming to visit me from Canada ) asked me explisedly 24 carat to by a bracelet for his wife .

He will vist me here in Uttaradit and we will go to Chiang Mai! So he ,nore I do not know ,what ,where ,how and certanly the differneces between the Thai and "western " carat conversion. Thank ,you !

  6. Hi ,could anyone explain , help me out, a relative coming from Europ to visit me wants to buy something in 24 carat gold .I believe in Thailand there is no use of Carat but Bath .Is this correct ?So , what is the same in Thailand as 24 carat gold ? :)

  7. But one area where it was difficult to conduct surveillance was around the baggage carousel where porters with clearance passes who work for the airlines could approach passengers to help them with their luggage.

Mr Niran said many of the porters were like "outsourced" workers for the gangs and it was difficult to expose them.

I suppose one way of weeding them out would be to plant mystery tourists same as they do with shops to check on how staff are performing but let it be known they are going to be there and anyone caught is sacked.

very good suggestion... and how about raising the fine. a 1000 baht is an insult... try 10,000 or so and see if that helps... hire a few farangs to be the mystery tourists... they do this same thing in many large dept. stores in the U.S. hire a mystery shopper to check on the sales persons...

WHY HIRE ?????? I volontere and will do it " benevolant " ,no pay ,perhaps a cofee ?Farangs earn enuf money and don't know what to do in there free time !

  10. Dear Shipmates ,

I was ex Royal Dutch navy ,and I am looking for contact with shipmates in Thailand whom served in any navy but in particular the Royal Thai Navy.

I am member of the ALGERINE association and 4500 members and myself ar very courious to know and learn about this ship !

Is there anyone whom could bring me in contact with the PR officer of the RTN ,or...........................

Anyway I myself wouls like to have contact with shipmates to have a beer and " swing the lamp "

    ANYONE ????? Sincere greetings ,

    Jos

  12. I came to Thailand in in 2008 with a NonImmigrant O A multi-entry 12 month visa obtained in London that expired this week

However I went to Malaysia last week and now have an entry stamp that allows me to stay in Thailand until July 2010

My question is if I want to go outside of Thailand before next July can I get re-entry permit or does it depend on the date of the visa rather than the entry stamp

reentry stamps expire when the Visa extension expires.

    Barry

Thank you Barry ,that is clear !!!

    Josef

  13. Hi all , have question ,My wife (Belgian )and I ( Dutch ) have Non Imm O-A came to Thailand 2008 went out to Myanmar ,but now that I see this message ,looked in our pasport and the stamp is : valid intil 06 juli 2010. NOT mesioning multi !

My wife has the intention to visit her family in Belgium.Does she need a re-entry permit ? Iff yes where to apply fore ? usualy we go to NAN immigration .Can we ask - obtain it there or ......?????????

    Thanks , josef

At which stamp did you look. The passport will have two stamps: The stamp with the visa (from the embassy)and the stamp with your permission to stay from immigration. Only look at the VISA stamp, that will say signle or multiple. Check that carefully!

If it says multiple, then no re-entry permit is need when leaving, provided the visa is still valid.

If is says single, then a re-entry permit is needed. Is seems Nan is your ofice, so she has to apply there. Don't forget to bring a photo.

The official visa that we obtained at the Thai consulat in Antwerp-Belgiun state very clearly : Good for MULTIPLE journey(s)

So , may I asume that this is o.k. and that we do not have to apply for one at NAN imm. ?

    Thank's Josef

  14. <However I went to Malaysia last week and now have an entry stamp that allows me to stay in Thailand until July 2010>

Hi Rob, what did you do to get this new entry stamp. In 3 months my multiple-entry expires and i would like to do something similar,

    Thanks in advance, Leo

This only applies to the milti entry non immigrant OA visa that provides a one year permitted to stay stamp on each entry - A normal multi entry visa only allows a 90 day stay and if you return any date prior to the expiration date of the visa itself (on the visa) you get another stamp for the full time allowed at any entry point. All you have to do is exit Thailand, enter another country and return before the expiration date. This does not apply for two/three entry type visas (that some people call multi but are not marked as "multi").

  15. We (me/thai wife and 19 y/o son) will be in CM next week for a few days and searching for a reasonablbly priced hotel either in the city or nearby. We will be driving so wherever we stay will require a place that has parking. I'll do a internet search but thought I'd also ask here for some suggestions. Thanks for any replies.

Do not forget to check at the CHIANG MAI PLAZA , great location , hugh parking !

Very hughe breackfast buffet , nice swimmingpool ,quiet location , etc . etc . etc .and last but not least : VALUE FOR MONEY

Enjoy your stay in CM !!!!!

  16. For the first time I will be driving from BKK to CM.

Which route is the fastest and takes into account any newer or expanded roads?

    via

    Phitsanulok / Uttradit / Lampang (117, 11)

    or

    Kamphaeng Phet / Sukothai (A1/1, 101)

    or

    Kamphaeng Phet / past Tak / Lampang (A1/1, A2/1)

    AVOID the Nr. 11 !!!!

Between Uttaradit and Den Tchai ,major roadworks and it is a very , very dangerous road ! I live in Uttaradit , so I know !!!!! :)

  17. Well, we all like good food and good prices but are often dissapointed by the quality when the prices are affordable... Look no more ... I found a great little place called "Le Petit Paris"...run by a British national who has been a cook for the past 20 years in many places in Europe including France. Phillip is a great guy and super host who will personally attend to your needs and even special requests... His food is DELICIOUS and he does all the cooking HIMSELF ! Any time of the day you can have a great meal that will be up to the mark.... His breakfast menu, although I have not personally tried it sounds great and he vouches that people love having breakfast there and I believe him... I came upon "Le Petit Paris" one afternoon as I was walking around after being to Somphet Market and saw it and looked at the balckborad and thought ..Ok, I'll try it another time....Then one evening , my daughter and I were walking down that road looking for a place to have dinner quickly and not too expensive although neither of us were super hungy and again I came upon Le Petit Paris ....well I must say we ummmed and ouffed and looked at the menu from begining to end and just couldn't decide if we should try it or not...that's what happens when you're not that hungry...ya just can't decide on anything...anyway the Thai wiater was telling us to please come in and try some dishes and I said well , I want real French Food at which point Phillip himself appeared and started talking to us ....ok, well that was it...in we went and, I know this sounds crazy, but I wasn't that hungy at all, so ordered Frenh Fries .... :D ...And my daughter who also wasn't that hungry ordered a desert that Phillip made for her ....Stewed apples in a custard sauce ....DEEElicious ...however she got her dish after my F.F.'s and couldn't keep her hands off of them so had to order another round of them .... Yup , this is not good enough of a review ..I agree.....so We returned twice after that and a third time when my daughter brought her school friends there for a "Have a good Summer' farewell dinner ....

Sunday has nice specials, and anything else on the menu in the foreign food category is delicious and so affordable 120 - 200 Baht per dish...wine is also reasonably priced and anyway a meal for 2 including wine came to 650 Baht on a Sunday visit, and wow, I had a great meal and so did my daughter ....the success of a restaurant is not to please a customer with good food once , but all the time...and that is Phillips motto and mine too .....if I have one good meal in a restaurant and the ones after that are so-so only, then it's rubbish....once in a while there can be an off night ...but consistency MUST be there and at Le Petit Paris it is and I can vouch for that ...Ok , now go and enjoy it and let me know ...

It is on Ratwithi Road ....Up from St. Germain des Pres and before the Irish Pub .....it can be a little confusing as there is a Thai Bar/ restaurant really stuck to them on their left..... The decor is simple but pleasant and cozy .....I love it and am so happy I did finally go...I think what deterred me a little at the beginning was the Thai Bar / resto next to it which is a bit of a sore point to their image and I wasn't sure if they were associated or not .....Across the moat from Mike's Burger .....And Siam Commercial Bank is on the corner .... :)

Hallo ,sorry for this perhaps stupit :D question but............ in wich city is this restaurant ??????

  18. hONESTLY???

  19. Hallo all, finaly we ar in Thailand,on O-A multiple entry visa arrived on the 22/08/2008.Visa issued by Thai consulat in Antwerp Belgiumon 09/07/2008.

    Still some questions left !

We report every 3 months to emmigration at NAN.No problems at all,but the final expire date on the visa is 09/07/2009.Do we have to leave Thailand before 07/09/2009 OR entering again in Thailand on that date ??????

The emmigration in NAN ar very, very polite ,kind and trying to help, but the lack of our nollige of Thai and from them of English makes things a little confiusing.

To make te story complete ,my wife is Belgian 58 and I am Dutchman 64.
