  1. Caddys in Thailand expect a tip of 200 baht. If you give them 100 they will not be happy. Yes it's stupid but TiT.

Agreed 200 THB minimum, but has been that way for a long time, sometimes give more for exceptional caddy or good score, or good mood or help with balls in the rough !! :o

  2. Hi Sunshine13

this rings bells of the first setup I did when I got my TT&T maxnet setup with a Zxyel router. (same router ??)

The internet connections settings should be set up to automatically detect settings. BUT the first thing you have to do is type in the IP of the router - as given in the router docs - log into the router and change a couple of settings. I can't remember all of the details but it should be in your doc's.

TT&T used to say if you were haveing problems take your kit to their shop and they will set it up for you

    hope this little helps

  3. Firstly ... You can have a bank account if you are on a retirement visa ...

You don't really think all the tens of thousands of retirees here keep their

money under the mattress do you :o

I would suggest you try Kasikorn.

When you open the account then also apply for cyber banking.

With this you can top up your One 2 Call (etc.) prepaid phone from anywhere in the world.

(or are you saying that a prepaid is more expensive that a postpaid ?)

    Naka.

Well done Naka - beat me to it !

I use Kasikorn cyber banking for this and many other bill payment service.

    they provide an excellent service

    cheers

  4. Delivery Van Runs School Bus Off The Road, 18 Dead At The Scene

A tragic accident occured today when Satang Semamon, age 10, who was driving a delivery van for his father's business side-swiped a school bus on a country road and drove it off the road where it rolled over repeatedly down into a gully causing the death of 18 students.

Satang's father, Suthep, awoke in the morning feeling ill and so decided not to accompany Satang on their daily rounds as was their usual routine. "I was surprised when I heard the news and I feel kind of sorry that I allowed him to drive alone, but he had been doing so well previously, that I thought it would be alright to let him go out and drive by himself."

What can you say ? Something like this is bound to happen. even if he just takes the van out to show off with his mates one day.

Also now the precedent has been set and approved by the police other kids are going to want to have a go!

Sometimes, as I'm sure many others have seen, when approaching a travelling car from behind it looks like there is no one driving, as the Thai person behing the wheel is so diminutive. How can a kid reach and correctly control all of the required controls ? :o

I'd take this as a massive compliment, John.

  5. I want to buy a swimming pool cleaner.

You know... one of those little plastic things that crawl all over your pool floor and up the walls and suck up all the dirt and leaves.

I did some research on the 'net, and have decided on a Zodiac Baracuda Genie Series II.

I could get one air-freighted in from Australia (AUD$599 + $125 insured air mail) but does anyone know of a local distributor?

I have a fully tiled pool, so a smooth surface model would be required.

    JD

did you manage to find a good one ? I'd be interested in any feedback

    cheers

  7. Still need the cyanuric acid though.

why that? i had to use cyanuric acid in Florida because of yellow algae bloom once in a blue moon but old thai hands told me the only problem here are green algae of which one can get rid within 24 hours with enough chlorine and muriatic acid.

I've been told that the cyanuric acid helps to stabilise the chlorine and protects it against heat and UV degradation.

But .... don't shoot me .... I'm only just learning.

I have recently completed a 15 x 5m pool with a 5x3m kiddies pool / jacuzzi add on. Estimated water volume is about 130,000 litres running through a sand filter system with manual chemical dosing. I haven't started the maintenance contract with the pool builder yet as we haven't officially closed out the construction contract and he also hasn't proven to me that he can balance the pool. He has told me however that the maintenance contract is going to run at 3,000 THB/ month with discount if I sign a years contract!!!.

I think this is a bit high, referring also to Chaichara's mail about the "pool maintenance scam".

I think I can learn enough about the dosing and balancing to do the chemical dosing and balancing myself and just pay someone to do the vacuuming - as I will be at work most of the time.

What I am interested in getting is a decent test kit. All the ones I have seen so far are simple sample bottles / reagant solutions / tablets etc. Are threse the best ? Are there for example any simple electronic pH meters available ?

there you go that's my "bit"

    cheers

  8. during recent annual company medical, following the ECG, the machine automatically printed out that I had suffered a recent stroke and the old ticker was a bit out of kilter. Then they checked my blood pressure which was orbiting pluto! I felt sure that had I had a myocardial infarcation I would have felt it!

Doc. referred me to the cardiologist who basically cursed the day they bought in these auto-ECG diagnostic machines!!

At least the "human error" is more fun (Cute??)

I'm fine by the way, just got to ease off on the cholesterol bits!! :o

  9. Don't know about brain teasers, but last weekend we were down in Pattaya and I picked up your local paper. In the sits vac portion was an advert for help wanted. One of the requirements was 'must be male or female'. What else would you be, a mop?

You know ..... one of those person thingy's of the third category, or whatever the politically correct term is

    :o
