  1. 215k for the bike (cb500x), how much is the registration and insurance going to be?

Before, I was going to buy a crf250m in Chiang Rai. After testing it I was disappointed with the lack of power, that's when I tested the cb500x and fell in love with it.

The guy in Green Wing Chiang Rai said the registration was included in the price of the crf250m.

Maybe different in Big wing Chiang Mai. . . .

Got My CB 500 x a month ago from Chiang Mai big wing and the registration and a years 1st class insurance was thrown in free. Enjoy your bike.

    Thanks for the pic!

How much was your exhaust and do you get much improvement in the performance from it?

Do you know a good site for mods and accessories ?

Sorry couldn't help myself with the pic :-) Cost me 5300 Baht, doesn't seem to make any difference to performance but it sounds great.:-) Got mine in a shop in Chiang Mai about a 5 minute ride from big wing. Sorry couldn't tell you the name of the shop but it's down Chiang Moi road.

  3. Opening the dam at Doi Saket should not effect Chiang Mai City, thats a different flood plain through San Kampang and onto Lamphun.

I have heard that at least one of the Moo Bans, Swirilai 3 has water up to the doors on the San Kampang road, so that cannot be good news.

San Kampang is lower than Chiang Mai.

Im in Karnkannok 1 in San Khampaeng, many sois flooding, Now going down my soi , gonna be a long night.

hope you werent telling all the bar owners around town about not needing a license if you have True HD on 6 months :)

How would the police know how long your contract with True is?

Thats what True advertized when they first came out withe their HD. :D True is doing the same thing for the World Cup 2010 as they did for the World Cup 2006 advertising language and licenses that they can not or will not provide. :D I would put a side bet that before the World Cup is over we will see and hear of websites blocked in Thailand that are broadcasting the cup in English and Astro TV down south blocked. Any takers? :D

Already happening , the radio delay website on Two for the roads post has been blocked by ICT.

  5. and nobody else has heard the same story!

I was there yesterday and there was nearly a riot. There were just two large bottles of Heineken on the cold shelve and a big German guy tried to get them before me. I felt like burning a tyre or throwing a firework at a bank's atm I was so angry.

Did he put a beach towel over them to reserve them. :)

  6. Yes the Pool league is going strong with 2 divisions, As for playing depends on your standard. if you want serious pool then find a team in the first division, if you want to have a laugh then the second is better.

Some of the bars are as follows:

    1st division

Half Moon 2 teams , Ralph Fitch 2 teams, Lucky Bar, Em & em, The wall 2 teams ,Oasis 2 teams, Blue Sky bar 4 teams

    2nd Division

happy Bar, Rama, Tiger bar plus a few more from the above teams.

Of the top of my head that's all can remember, any of the above bars will have a results sheet somewhere with all the bars involved.

Most of the bars are on or around Moommuang road.

    Enjoy

  7. I would warn anyone about the risks of using any so called travel/tour agencies in Thailand for the purchasing of airline tickets.

A week ago I decided to visit Pattaya from Chiang Mai, hoping to fly from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and than catch a bus from Bangkok to Pattaya.

Friends suggested that I purchase the plane tickets from an agent rather than directly from the airline, as I was told that purchasing directly from the airline would cost more.

So I visited several travel/tour agency shops in Chiang Mai to purchase a return air ticket from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, returning 6 days later.

I was astounded by the huge variations in prices, ranging from 3800 baht the lowest up to 5600 baht all for the same airlines and flights. Something told me that this cannot be right and not to trust them, so against the advice of my friends I decided to call at Chiang Mai airport and enquire at the airline offices.

Eventually after enquiring with several different airlines, Thai International offered a return flight for 2800 baht as a promotion. The next day I purchased the ticket at the Thai International desk in the airport. I was given an e-ticket, but I think this pertains to all airlines now. It meant that not only were the agents not passing on the promotion to me, but also charging extra amounts on top and who knows whether these tickets where bona fide or not.

The bus journey from Bangkok to Pattaya that included a mini bus to my hotel cost 200 baht one way. At the hotel where I was staying in Pattaya, is a travel agent that wanted to charge 560 baht for the same trip and Bus Company. When I questioned this, the lady said, that if I book through her agency, that is the price. In the end I got my wife to book the bus by phone. Had no problems.

So beware when using any travel/tour agency in Thailand. Probably best to book directly with the flight, bus or taxi company it`s self.

This is hardly rocket science. It has been cheaper, safer and easier to book direct with airlines for a number of years now. Travel agents are still usefull, and earn their 'cut', when you are trying to book a multiple or difficult route, or do not have access to a phone or the internet.

Not true if i book my ticket to Europe direct at the Airline compagnie I pay more then at a travel agency..

If you have found a reputable travel agent, can you give us it`s name and location? Maybe travelling to England over Christmas and would be interested in finding an agent that can be trusted and offers fair deals.

    Hi,

I always use Goodmans travel at the start of Thapai road (just before Nawarat Bridge coming outta town) they have always given me a good price and passed on any promotions. (i'm travelling to the UK tomorrrow and got the special thai airways deal to Bangkok)

    PS

i checked on t'internet first and they beat all the prices i had by a couple of thousand baht

  8. It rain so much it hurts my garden

Had one of the heaviest downpours of the season last night around midnight, and it continued raining all night, in fact it's still pissing down here.

I have a friend that lives near the the Chiangmai Plaza hotel and he reckons that I am exagerating as he has had no rain there. :)

Got the same storm here (san khampaeng) about 11:30 pm it was a cracker, garden was like a pond in 5 mins flat.

Well today what a differance, not being a techy don't really know why it's so differant today from the weekend.

Did notice it defaulted to the Bangkok server again maybe that's why?

    It's so frustrating :)

  10. Hi,

Since I am moving to Chiang Mai in September I am now looking for a nice and quiet housing development or Condo with a fitness center that I can rent, (the place must be furnished and quiet). Not located in a high traffic area with barking dogs and Tuk Tuks.

Can anyone give me tips on where some of these places may be located? I am not real familiar with the street names so please give me apx. directions.

    Thank You kindly

Moo Baan Karnkanok 1, if heading out of town towards sankampeang, so the airport shoping center was on your right, just keep going straight, over 2 sets of trafic lights, past where the road opens to 2 lanes (with turn left to borsang) back in to 1, then its just over a little bridge on your right (big sign). About 10-15minutes from airport plaza.

It has nice pool, fitness, suana, security, attractive gated development and it's quiet, no tuk tuks, mountain views, tesco, market, noddles an such not far away in borsang. Loads of houses around the estate have the "rent or sale" signs up, sure some will b available furnished.

I'd recomend staying in a hotel of a week or so and just drive around all the moo baans, for sure lots available. I'd also say you get alot more for your money renting a house rather than a condo, the only advantage of which is a shorter trip home from boozeyness.

    Good luck

I second the above, it's very quiet with great views, to give you an idea what the houses look like.

  11. No restaurants or anything in the Moo Ban but plenty just outside, during the day very peaceful, the evening same as elsewhere plenty of people walking and playing fussball, My wife and kids take 2

hours to wander around most evenings for a 10 minute walk !!

    life is good :)

  12. It's a snap! Busted boner puts owner in sick bay

The doctor decided to transfer me to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further treatment as my penis was still very swollen – about four times as big as usual. The doctor gave me more anti-inflammatory drugs, but said that if it didn't get better he woulf have to operate to remove the blood trapped in it," he said.

I'll have some of that, but no pain please :o
